Mega burger which is not mega @ KFC

Just felt like having KFC, so got the new Mega burger, the one with chicken, egg salad, bacon and a choice of sauce.

Got two sets, one with criss cut fries, egg tart, chicken hot shots, picnic bite sized bar, chicken wings and drink.
Ordered two Mega burgers one with barbeque sauce and one with Tangy cheese sauce.

The chicken in the burger was not that dry, still soft and tender, the complaint being it was warm, not hot at all, so it had probably been cooked for a while.
Also from their promotional pictures, there is lots of sauce, but in the real thing there was only one tiny splodge in the centre same with the egg salad. The chicken was only half the size of the bun.

Their hygiene should also be improved, because the table cloth they used to wipe the table was smelly, which really puts you off.

Cookie crust egg tart @ Tai Cheong

Saw the new honey green tea ad for $5 so went in and grabbed a bottle, then these fresh egg tarts came out of the oven, so I asked what pastry it was assuming it was the short crust of flaky pastry, but they said it was the cookie one.

So got one to try, also on promotion at 3.8 dollars each.

I drank the drink first, the egg tarts were piping hot, and you cant really taste anything when it is hot.
The green tea tastes a bit like the honey green tea by Tao Ti but tastes stronger of Cane sugar, hence doesn’t really taste of honey.

As for the egg tart, the pastry is a bit strong in butter, and not that cookie like, but different to shortcrust, it is harder and brittle, a bit like wheat crunch.

Japanese rolled pancakes @ Mazazu crepes

Thanks to Felicityli, found out about this little pancake joint, so tried the chocolate banana one and blueberry cheesecake one.

It is slightly different to the western pancakes that are eaten on a plate, these are rolled up like the Japanese sushi hand rolls.

The cream inside the pancakes were a bit thick and sticky like, so the chocolate banana one turned out to be sickly, whereas the blueberry one was much fruitier and light.

It was slightly messy to eat, as the top was topped with lots of cream, sauce and filling, but tastes OK, especially the blueberry one.

The only drawback is that the stools are very high, so if you’re wearing a mini skirt, it is a bit troublesome.

Baked Sago and Taro Pudding @ 富臨酒家

Got the baked sago and taro pudding, it was presented in a tin foil cup, the appearance reminded me of a portugese tart, the golden yellow and oven crisp brown bits at the top.

The taro puree was a layer in between the sago custard.

The sago custard wasnt that sweet, but the taro was, and had a very velvety texture.

But overall if it wasnt that sweet, it would of tasted good.

Light dinner @ Watami

The food at Watami is usually Ok, ordered the stir-fried udon, meatballs, hotpot and fatty tuna with spring onion.

The udon was just right not too soft or hard, the meatballs had a crispy shell and complemented well with the sauce.
As for the hotpot, the tofu was nice and silky, however the soup base became strong in beef taste after the beef had been in there for a while.

The fatty tuna was rather fat, and the spring onions coarsely chopped.

Chinese style pizza hut @ Le Fauchon

Whenever there is a salad bar, it reminds me of Pizza Hut, the popular salad bar for people to grab their greens at their hearts content.

However the food here has never appealed to me, although there are some side dishes worth ordering, but a matter of its availability.

I didnt find the food that Westerny at all, more like the Yeh Lam Kok which also pretends to be western.

The Paella is much more creamy than how the Italian ones should be, and the vegetables in the meat dishes are frozen ones.

Meat balls with JAM!! @ IKEA bisto

Meat balls served with Jam totally caught my interest so came here to try it, also tried their hotdog and popcorn.
The meatballs were quite soft, and the texture is a bit like a burger in meat ball form.
I was very surprised the Jam tasted really well with it, it balanced out the lard taste of the meat.

As for the hotdog, it was just a plain simple hot dog, not grilled with oil, but slightly dry.

Food chemistry with test tubes @ 戶井北海道米比薩

Since it opened, its menu has not really appealed to me, the only thing that was worth me trying is the test tube drinks.

Ordered the bloody orange test tube, ice cream with sweet potato and custard sauce, and the banana tempura ice cream.

The orange drink was rather nice and sour, not artificial in taste at all, however the desserts were a bit over priced, especially the ice-cream with sweet potato, the ice-cream is just the same as McDonalds, in fact any ice-cream from those machines, you would expect that McDonalds taste.
The sweet potato beneath the ice cream was the only star of the dessert.

As for the banana tempura, that was even more disappointing, only the banana tempura was good, the rest was a bit simple, you might as just buy those relevant ice creams and scoop them yourself and cut pieces of fruit to put on it. The melon didn’t match that well with the ice cream, melon is always quite savoury, same as the watermelon, it is a bit too juicy to match well with ice cream.

Chocolate chip cake @ Maxim's Bakery

Didnt intend to write about these cakes, but just for an extra review tongue

Anyway for $6.5, got a pack of two chocolate chip cakes.

The is more of a mix between a muffin and fairy cake, rich in chocolate and chocolate chips too. Garden bakery also does pre-packed cakes too, but in terms of freshness I would choose Maxims, however Garden has more flavours such as walnut, cherry and raisin etc.

golden pan fried fish with herbs @ Carnegies

Apart from the lovely pasta I had, this time I tried fish, golden pan fried fish with herbs on top.

A light lunch for people who do not want to eat much, consisting of balanced vegetables.

You can choose a three course or four course depending on if you want the dessert, the meal includes tea or coffee.
