A nice Genki Surprise

Genki Sushi (Tseung Kwan O)

I am not a fan of Genki Sushi because the choice of sushi is not very creative, so I have not been for a long time.

At the entrance, there was a no camera sign!
But I took these photos using a phone so I guess its ok

After this visit, I felt that their sushi is getting better and there are more choices offered especially for dessert such as Haagen Daz and cakes.

Basically every table was by the sushi conveyor belt so you could grab what you want and if it was not there you can place an order.

Green tea:
I liked the way they did not use tea bags because the taste gets bland after a few refils.
Here they use green tea powder so you can decide how strong you want it.
The green tea taste was slightly bitter and grassy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Genki roll:

Initially I wanted to try the deep fried salmon skin but the genki roll has deep fried salmon skin in it, so I tried that.
It does not say that on the menu, but you can see the deep fried salmon skin if you look carefully.
The salmon and salmon skin tasted really delicious because it was like eating fried salmon with raw salmon.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seared black pepper salmon:
The seared salmon was really nice but the salmon and rice was too soft that it did not hold together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate cake:
The cake tasted the best because the strength of chocolate was just right and not too sweet along with the soft cake.
Adding green tea powder made it even more delicious.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese cheesecake:
The cheesecake was lovely and soft, but it got quite sickly because the cheese taste was strong and similar to eating sweet creamy dairylea spread.

New menu at Delaney's

Delaney's Wanchai (Wan Chai)

Have not been here for ages so went again for English and Irish fare.

The menu has finally changed and is slightly better but the prices have gone up.

There were three that caught my eye and not previously there:

WARM POTATO & BLACK PUDDING SALAD $98 (garden greens with warmed potatoes and fried black pudding)
PAN FRIED COD FILLET WITH POTATO & LEEK GRÂTIN $175 (cod fillet served with grâtin potato and daily vegetables)
ROASTED HALF CHICKEN $138 (chicken seasoned with fresh rosemary and garlic with seasonal vegetables and house fries)
In the end I had the black pudding salad because I had a tasting later that day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
WARM POTATO & BLACK PUDDING SALAD:
When it came, it was exactly that, ie potato, salad and black pudding.
The potato was delicious because it was my favourite potato from the salad bar warmed up, and the mayonnaise was delicious.

The black pudding did not taste as nice as the ones at Queen Victoria.
I am not sure if the black pudding was a different brand or the oil was rancid because their fried stuff is not as good as their roast.

shh..its a girls best secret for delicious cakes

Cake's Secrets (Western District)

I have always wanted to go to this place but I never put it on my wish list because I used to think Kennedy Town was far until I made the effort to try Bistronomique, Tapaella Grill and this other hotel nearby.

That night, I was at a tasting nearby and it just so happens Mjqueen7e wanted to check this place too so we went together.

Initially I didn't know we wanted to try the same one cake shop because I did not know the Chinese name of this place.

Inside the cake shop there was a cabinet displaying the cakes and a two small tables.

Thanks to Mjqueen7e for treating me to these heavenly beautiful and delicious cakes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Purple sweet potato cake:

Although I have never liked savory and sweet tastes together, but this was amazing.
The purple potato tasted natural and you could taste its natural savoriness.
The purple potato was extremely silky and light just like velvet and when eaten with the delicate soft cake inside it was a perfect match.

The cream inside the cake was also light and dreamy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea red bean cake:

Anyone who has seen this Green tea cake will be captivated by its interesting fortress appearance.
I have always imagined how I would eat this cake and wondered if the green tea sticks surrounding it would be crispy or biscuit like.
The red beans in the cake were hard and not starchy which were nice.

I attacked the cake by eating the sticks surrounding it which were similar to green tea flavoured macarons but in stick form.
The green tea cake in the middle was deliciously complemented by the cream and red beans.

If this place was not so far away, I would definitely be back.
I hope they open a branch in Central soon.

Creme brulee shake @ Dairy Queen

Dairy Queen (Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro)

There are four branches of Dairy Queen in Macau but only two are listed on OpenRice.
I have tried to add the other two a few months ago without success so I cannot write the review for that branch.

This was my second visit to Dairy Queen because I got addicted to it.

This branch has no seating and it is near the famous landmark.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Creme brulee shake

The creme brulee was thick and delicious and the sweetness was just right.
I loved the creamyness and the caramel taste was strong.

Purely organic alchohol

Pure Bar + Restaurant (Central)

Thanks to Pure dining for inviting me to try their Sous Chef Chetan Kohli’s 2013 menu which includes organic alchohol.

Pure dining is part of the PURE fitness group so it makes sense for a fitness social bar to offer healthy drinks.

The tantalising new cocktail menu includes signature favourites made with 100% fresh organic ingredients and alcohol.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry energizer:
Made with fresh strawberry juice, vodka and orange juice.
As a non drinker I really liked it because it was light and refreshing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cucumber Martini:
Made with lime juice, cucumber juice and vodka.
The colour of this fun and appetizing and the cucumber juice was soothing.
Compared to the first drink, the alcohol tasted stronger.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
rare tuna with egg nori & lump fish caviar:
The tuna and lump fish caviar was a nice canape to start with.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chorizo & shallot bruschetta:
The Chorizo was covered with cheese on top and the shallots and chorizo was delicious and spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
truffled popcorn shrimp:
This was my favourite, the coating was crisp and light with a hint of truffle.
It seemed to be everyones favourite because it was gone quickly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ostrich meat balls:
Initially I thought they were beef balls but they were made from ostrich meat which was even nicer.
They were spiced with my favourite cumin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cucumber with salmon mousse:
This was my favourite, refreshing cucumber to go with rich and velvety salmon mousse on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast with liver mousse:
Lastly this was my favourite and the liver mousse was velvety matched with the crispy toast.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Bento Express and TopValu goodies

Initially I went in here because they had TopValu products so I ended up getting sushi as well.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon:
The salmon was delicious and it was fresh.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn with urchin:
The urchin was strong and creamy.
It was quite nice but slightly salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate mousse:

The mousse tasted better than the sushi.
There was extremely runny chocolate sauce on top which was really nice and enhanced the mousse because the mousse was rich but not sweet and the sauce enhanced it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

bee my favourite baguette

This joint used to be located at Prince Edwards on the busy side of Kowloon.

They have now moved to the classy side of Central located in between Sheung Wan and Central.
I like this branch because you can dine there and it is much bigger than the shop in Prince Edwards which only had two seats at the bar table.

I finally tried the baguettes because at the Prince Edward branch I could only try the snacks because there was no where to eat it.

To be honest I have attempted to dine at the Central branch many times without luck, it was either closed or the items I wanted were sold out.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salad:

The salad was surprisingly nice because of the salad dressing, it was thick caesar dressing which was lovely and cheesey.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian fish baguette:

Although I am not a vegetarian it was nice that they had many vegetarian choices.
The vegetarian fish they used was the usual type that restaurants stock but it was jazzed up with mustards and other sauces.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken in wine baguette:

As expected I really liked this and innovative that they used chicken in wine as a filling.
The wine taste was strong complemented by the crunchy medley of salad in the baguette.
The only thing I did not like were the julienne carrots which were too sweet.
