Bingo it's Bingco from the Food Expo 2014!

Bingco got the most attention at the recent food expo because of the huge long extruded icecream cones that could be made in any shape.

[Photos from Food and Expo 2014]

Now you can get them at Tin Hau, just left of the MTR exit.

The display J cones look like deep fried fish gas bladders (炸鱼鳔)!

When I went, the cones were not ready and the media were there doing a shoot so I left and visited another day.

They didn't have any cones that day so I got the softserve.
There were two flavours: banana and milk or vitasoy which happen to be both that I don't like.
Out of the two I chose vitasoy because banana usually has an artificial taste.

Vitasoy softserve:

The vitasoy softserve was actually quite nice because it tasted like a creamy version of vitasoy and it was not too sweet.
I would have preferred plain vitasoy softserve because I found the cereal and ovaltine powder too distracting.

Cali-Mex churros with caramel sauce

Not a fan of churros because the taste depends on the frying oil.

Anyway, I just had to try it.

There is a choice of chocolate sauce or caramel sauce with the churros and I chose the caramel.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
churros with caramel sauce:

The churros were good because they were crispy with a slight chewy centre and they did not have any oily taste or smell.

The caramel sauce was divine because it was not sticky or too sweet, it was light and hung on to the churros nicely with a delicious burnt caramel taste.

Green tea risotto at La Cabane Wine Bistro

Walked past one day and the menu was really inviting so I dined there.

I ended up ordering two mains because the portions are small and I wanted to try them both.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The menu that day:

A la carte menu.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato and vanilla soup:

The soup was interesting because it was sweet potato and vanilla!!
It sounded sweet like dessert but it tasted like a normal soup would taste and it was thick with a slight hint of ginger and sweet vanilla taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Buckwheat blinis with vegetable and "oeuf mollet":

It was challenging to eat this because the plate (rectangular slate) made it difficult especially with the egg and the egg yolk would go every where.
I did not eat the egg and saved it for the risotto below.
The blinis were quite salty and the sauce was rather creamy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea risotto with trout:

I had to try this because it was French but not French because of the green tea element.
The trout was similar to salmon with a delicate taste.

The edges of the snow peas were put in the risotto to give it a crunchy grassy sweet texture when you eat it with the risotto loaded with sweet bursting peas and the savoury green tea taste was surprisingly nice.

Green tea risotto with egg:

I mixed the egg from the blinis into the risotto and the mixture of egg yolk and green tea risotto was so rich and delicious.
Unfortunately the portion was really small and it was gone in a few spoonfuls.

Inconsistent broth at Noodle House

Been here quite a few times because I like their noodles, but the broths are being a little inconsistent!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lobster broth on the Nth visit:

Delicious strong lobster broth that was sweet with a prawny taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lobster broth on the Nth + 1 visit:

The colour of the broth was dark yellow and the taste was really bland compared to the previous visit.
After telling them, they tried the broth and said it was normal, but the Chef was different to the one on the previous visit, so they probably have different tastebuds.
Then the intriguing thing is that the broth is premade at the factory.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy noodles:

Finally tried the Japanese somen and they were thin and nice but you have to eat them quickly before they become too soft.

Maxim's 2014 colourful mooncakes

Maxim's Cake Shop (Central)
Tried Maxim's colourful mooncakes series which contains 16 flavours:

Mango, mixed berries, blueberry cheese, devils chocolate crunch, sesame with macadamia, mango chestnut, green bean paste with salty egg yolk, pink guava and apricot.

Taro and coconut, green tea with red beans, mango with grapefuit and greenbean, premium green beans, custard, blueberry duo, angel chocolate crunch and mango crunch.

The two that I wanted to try were the Taro and coconut and pink guava and apricot.
In the end I tried the Taro and coconut which was quite nice.

In the middle, there was taro paste.

The taste was quite coconutty and the taro paired nicely with it.
I would have liked it if the texture wasn't starchy but it is by default because they all contain mung beans.

Great food in the East of Kowloon

If I had been blindfolded and led here I would not have known that this place was in an Industrial building.

Hong Kong is an interesting city where anything is possible.
From basement restaurants to seatless joints, Hong Konger's can eat in any environment!!
Once I saw a student smuggle snacks into the toilet and ate them!

The restaurant had an open kitchen.

The tables were nicely spaced out with an al-fresco dining area.

They also had toilets which was a bonus because not every restaurant in Hong Kong has a toilet.

At the far end, they have a board with the Daily specials.

Here was what we had.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beetroot salad with feta cheese:

The salad dressing was surprisingly nice because it was very savoury which made the salad taste good while the beetroot pieces were chunky and acidic balanced by the creamy crumbly feta cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Razor clams:

Personally I am not fond of Razor clams because the ones I have tried were cooked in a Chinese way with garlic or steamed but the clams here were cooked in tomato with pancetta, basil and chili.
It actually made them moreish because the chili kick and tomato was really nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
creamy spinach:

This was one of the three choices of side dishes.
It was really comforting that this was on the menu because side dishes are always found on American steak/burger menus.
The spinach was sweet and tender with a strong garlic and buttery taste and it was nice that it was not too milky in taste.
I am referring to a milky taste because lots of restaurants think that by adding milk it will taste creamier when the taste of creaminess is totally different to the taste of milkiness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fettucine alfredo with mushrooms:

Their fettucine is made in house which is why the texture is firm and slightly tough when you chew it.
The creamy sauce hung well to the strands of fettucine with delicious mushrooms that had an earthy taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
USDA pork chop with Truffle aioli:

The pork chop was surrounded by crispy cubes of potato and a honey mustard sauce which always complements pork nicely

The pork was juicy and tasty, it was minimalistic which was good because it was fresh and does not really need that much seasoning.
It would taste great with a side of unsweetened apple puree too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roasted chicken:

The chicken was a bit raw in the middle but the chicken breast meat was tender and moist.
I would have liked more herbs rubbed on the chicken skin to give it more flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ice cream float:

This was loaded with sugar but after mixing the icecream with cream soda, it tasted like a gorgeous vanilla milkshake with a light fizz.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Brownie with icecream:

The brownie had a rich chocolate taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Banana walnut cake:

This was my favourite because it had fragrant nutty walnuts with banana but I found it a bit too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
cheesecake:

The cheesecake was not heavy because it had a strong lemon taste infused into the thick and silky cream cheese.
