[Review] German Doner Kebab

Doner Kebabs are popular in UK, they entered UK in the 1940s by the Turkish and now there are Greek versions as well as Bengali versions.

German Doner Kebab is a late comer from Berlin.

Although their kebabs were delicious, it has not replaced my favourite Shatkora kebab which is cooked with citrus near my Uni.
Ironically, there is now a branch of GDK a few doors away from it.

On the menu, there were two types of wraps: the Doner Durum wrap and the The original German Doner Wrap.
The German one looks like a stuffed quarter shaped pita bread while the durum looked like the wraps we normally see.

The original German Doner Wrap:
 Doner Durum wrap:

The lady at the counter said the durum wrap would taste better out of the two so I got the durum wrap.

Once you've ordered, you can watch them make your wrap.

I was pleased on my first bite because it wasn't overwhelmed by sauces and the meats were wafer thin like ham.
They have a special gadget that shaves the doner meat to even thin slices.
The taste of the meat was really good which is why the strong sauces are not really needed to overwhelm it and the cabbage complimented it nicely.

They also have a doner spring roll which I regretted not trying.
I would expect it to taste good especially when their doner meat is good.

According to the menu, they use lean and quality meats for the doner which I definitely agree with.
Will definitely be back to try the spring roll.

[Review] Fen Noodles

Dumpling Shack, the successful dumpling joint at Old Spitalfields now has a sister!
Enter Fen Noodles which serves hand pulled biang biang noodles to order.
On the menu, you can choose the traditional lamb noodles, dry noodles etc.

There was also a tempting biang biang noodle with curry and potato but I decided to go for the traditional as it was my first time here.
As it is North Eastern Chinese food, expect the food to be spicy with tonnes of garlic.

The noodles were freshly made unlike restaurants in Hong Kong but obviously if you go to China, you would probably get the real deal.
The noodles were firm and al dente as expected with a good degree of spiciness.
I found the mild spiciness to be extremely spicy so be warned.

Hope to return for the curry biang if I am back and try the Dumpling Shack as well.

Tiger Noodles at [笑麵虎車仔麵 Tiger Noodles & Bar]

Spotted this joint across the road because of the cute tiger.
At first I got confused because I thought it was the curry place Tiger Room and Tiger San but it turns out to be Tiger Cart noodles.
Anyway, I was captivated by the noodles because they had beetroot and spinach.
As I have had spinach numerous times, I decided to try the beetroot but it was sold out.
Luckily they offered me Kale noodles which I haven't tried before.
The noodles had a grassy smell and flavour while the texture was very slippery when you pick them up with chopsticks.
The vegetable broth I had was very sweet but quite nice.

Peggy Porschen's cakes

Loved the instaworthy mushroom entrance.
As for the cakes, the spiced toffee apple is a must try.
It is best to get there early in the morning like 11am if you want some good photos.

Winter is coming! Time for claypot dishes with Kee Wah Sausages

It's drawing near winter so in Hong Kong it is time for hotpots, snake soup and preserved sausages.
At Kee Wah Bakery, they also make traditional sausages.

The sausages make great gifts to overseas relatives because they have English and Chinese instructions.

Both sausages had fragrant Chinese wine in it which you could smell when they were being steamed and when they were ready to eat.
Personally I prefer liver sausages because I love that rich taste with pieces of liver infused with fragrant wine that is really strong.

[Review] Nandos in Eastbourne

Nandos has been in UK since 1992.
Although they serve Portuguese food, this big chain originates from South Africa.
They started off in West London as a takeaway and began to pop up as a restaurant everywhere in 2013.
You can now find Nandos in most modern gentrified malls, even at old fashioned Eastbourne which got a makeover.

Decided to try the Eastbourne branch so I could compare it to London.
Went there on a weekend evening around 7 before the dinner rush.
Ordered and waited for the food to arrive.

The wait was forever compared to London.
We could see lot of meals were ready at the counter but no one had time or were too busy to bring them over to the diners.
Apart from the wait, food was good with the usual choice of sauces at the bar.

The menu offers more healthy choices than before like vegetables and vegan milk.
For children they also offer Chilly Billy lollies as a dessert treat on the kids menu.
