Japanese and Thai highlights exclusive at DCH Food Mart Metro Town & Marina Square 大昌食品專門店

DCH Food have really upped their game!
The DCH Food Mart branch at Metro Town (Tiu Keng Leng MTR) has some exclusive items as well as the Marina Square branch in Ap Lei Chau.
They have so many fine foods and their website even has English!
This month they have stocked some really good Japanese and Thai delights which I tried.

Seaberry Juice With Yuzu HDK199 (introductory offer $169):
沙棘柚子汁

Seaberry, are sea berries grown in a harsh environment at high latitudes.
They contain more than 200 types of nutrients, including omega-7
fatty acids called "youthful fatty acids", omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids that cannot be produced by the
body, vitamins A, C and E, and iron.
As a foodie who is keen on trying new things, Seaberry juice with yuzu is a must and it tastes great diluted with soda water or water.
You can also add it to sangria, soy milk, smoothies etc.
I would describe the taste similar to kombucha.

Hotate Scallop Ramen HKD125.9 (introductory offer $119)
扇貝拉麵

Who doesn't love a comforting restaurant quality ramen at home with this refreshing salty ramen with scallops from Mutsu Bay which is famous for scallop production.
The broth that the scallops has been cooked has seaweed, green onions, and white sesame seeds to give it that full on taste.
Inside the pack, you get two packets of ramen, scallops, and soup powder which can be easily cooked in one pot within 5 minutes.
Execution was easy, you just cook the noodles first and then rinse it.
Add the soup powder in hot water and then the ramen and scallops!

As a fan of canned foods, I liked the Japanese Canned Hokkaido Scallop Lemon Butter Flavour & Canned Hiroshima Oyster Salt Lemon Pot.
Both look sophisticated when they are out of the can.

Canned Hokkaido Scallop Lemon Butter Flavour HKD79.9 (introductory offer $74.9)
北海道扇貝檸檬牛油味

These are marinated Hokkaido scallops with aged algae salt lemon using lemon from a top lemon producer in the Hiroshima Prefecture.
The rich buttery richness which you can see makes it tasty on its own or with salads or noodles.
Personally, I liked them on their own or with Carr's water biscuits.

Canned Hiroshima Oyster Salt Lemon Pot HKD92.9 (introductory offer $90)
廣島蠔檸檬藻鹽風味

I knew I was going to like this because Hiroshima oysters have the best taste and they don't look like they came from a can.
Similar to the scallop, they are also braised with aged algae salt and chicken where you will find delicious pieces of chicken.
Again, they taste good on their own or cooked with Arborio rice like a kameshi.

Freeze Dried Mango Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk Dip HKD38.9 (introductory offer HKD35.9)
芒果糯米飯脆脆

Mango sticky rice is such a popular Thai desserts. I loved the Freeze Dried Mango Sticky Rice snack.
There is also a durian version as well.
To eat, you simply add water to the coconut powder in the tub to make the coconut sauce and use it as a sauce/dip.
I definitely loved the fragrant mango and coconutty sauce just like that holiday trip in Thailand.

Also available are Hon-karebushi Sauce Tajima Chicken Curry (Low Sodium) which can be paired with rice and the Tuna Revolution Protein Food which is like ham and can be eaten with sandwiches.

All the above products can only be found at two DCH FoodMart 大昌食品專門店 stores
*Metro Town, Tseung Kwan O* & *Marina Square, Ap Lei Chau* and their e-shop

Christmas Turkey Special at Eggslut

It has been a while since I have visited Eggslut and since then there are now three branches.
Eggslut have always served a turkey sausage, egg and cheese sandwich so it is a no brainer to have a Turkey Special bun for Christmas as well as Thanksgiving.
The Christmas Special is a turkey and sage burger patty with Christmas spiced butter, cranberry sauce, rocket salad and fried egg packed in a brioche roll for £9.95.

For drinks, they are also doing a non-alcoholic Eggnog.

On the first visit, I had the Fairfax which I felt didn't really make an impression but I have always been meaning to go back for the Sausage, Egg sandwich which is something I can relate to in terms of an egg sausage muffin.

The Christmas special motivated me to go because of the Christmas spiced butter, cranberry sauce and egg.

Finally made it on a late Saturday around 4pm when it was near their closing hours and ordered the Christmas Turkey Special.
Overall, the Turkey special was good as expected with the punchy spiced butter which really took things to the next level as well a the cranberry sauce.
Not to mention the perfectly fried egg with silky tender egg white.
Sadly the yolk had burst so some of the precious yolk was on the wrapping but anyway, it definitely tasted better than the Fairfax.

I also tried the eggnog which should be really sweet but somehow it tasted a bit like fruit yoghurt / pina colada so I am not sure if this is how it is meant to taste as usually it is sweet.
I have inquired on their instagram but no one seems to reply!

Wendy's in Romford

Wendy's in Romford:

Third branch of Wendy's opens today 8/12/2021 in Romford

Second Branch of Wendy's debuts in Croydon

I love Wendy's so having one in Croydon is definitely wonderful.
It is the second branch to follow after opening in Stratford, the third branch is due to open in Romford on the 8th December.
On the first day of opening, there were long queues as expected so I went a week after it had opened when the queues were long but bearable.

The layout is similar to the Stratford branch with the ordering on the ground floor and seating area followed by more tables upstairs.

I had the Bacon Cheeseburger, veggie balls and a Junior Frostie.
The bacon cheeseburger was as good as expect because the beef patty was tasty without any gristle. however the veggie balls very salty and dry.

I also had the baked potato to see how the American take on would be.
It is interesting how people today just don't eat baked potatoes anymore and it is really difficult finding a somewhere good for a quality baked potato.
Overall, the baked potato could have been better and the chilli was a bit watery and the mince beef was not that good.
The bacon and cheese would have been a better bet.

Finished with the frostie which is really comforting as it is sweet and heavenly.
