Fun as always with lots of choices @ Watami

The food is always good and fun here, great for gatherings where you can try out everything.
The menu is changed periodically so every time there is something different to try.

Anyway, as well as Japanese food they also serve Western food.
After ordering I did not realise that most of my choices were Western until someone pointed it out.
But anyway as long as it is delicious I am not bothered whether it is Japanese or Western.

Ordered:
Crab and scallop croquette
Rolled omelette with Cod roe and cheese
Paella seafood pot rice
French fries
Cold tomato capellini

Crab and scallop croquette
A round ball with thin crispy bread crumb coating, the inside was filled with delicate cream, crab and scallop.
The sauce that came with it was similar to cocktail sauce but not that sour.

Cod roe and cheese rolled omelette
This tasted better than I expected because the cod roe was not too rich.
The egg, roe and cheese went well together, the saltiness of the roe compensated for the blandness of the egg.

Paella seafood pot rice
I did not realise it was a hotpot until it was brought to the table.
It was Paella cooked right in front of you.
The rice came with broth inside the pot, and once the water has all been absorbed, it is ready to eat.
Basically it tasted really nice except that it was too salty.

French fries
Similar to the fries at Apple green served in a metal bucket.
The tomato sauce tasted different, I think there was some MSG in it.

Cold tomato capellini
This was refreshing for a hot day! Cold capellini in tomato sauce.
Pasta is usually served hot, but this was cold, just like cold Japanese noodles.
There was a nice mix of asparagus and aubergine in refreshing tangy tomato sauce.

Fairwood breakfast: chicken croquette and pumpkin congee

Order the chicken croquette set and the pumpkin congee.
The set I got had a potato, chicken and bacon croquette, which comes with a piece of chicken and a bowl of macaroni.
On the product shot, the piece of chicken looked like a piece of chicken cutlet.
When I got my breakfast, I realised it was grilled chicken and not cutlet, anyway, it did seem odd having two fried items in a set.

Grilled chicken:
The grilled chicken was slightly oily but the chicken tasted ok and there was some MSG in it too.

There was Chinese salad cream for the croquette but I did not use it.

Croquette:
The croquette was oily as well, but the croquette filling was nice, it was creamy mashed potato with pieces of chicken and bacon.

Macaroni:
The macaroni tasted average to me because it was not soft enough and I don’t like ribbed macaroni.

The pumpkin and pork congee is surprisingly nice from Fairwood.
It tastes better than Ocean Empire's version.
There are generous amounts of pumpkin in the congee and visible pieces of spring onions.
The ratio of pumpkin to congee is about 50:50.
The texture of the pumpkin is not too soft and I like the way it has been chopped into tiny pieces.
I love the golden colour of the congee and the green pieces of spring onions which make this congee colourful and fun.
I would recommend this congee to the elderly or babies.
