Having a quick dessert inside Cafe Inside

This is the second branch of Cafe Inside, the first branch is located on Water Street in Sai Ying Pun.

It was like a greenhouse inside and there was an open area which is currently wasted.

This place used to be a dry cleaners called Redi something.

Anyway, I stopped by for desserts.

Milk pudding:

The milk pudding was quite nice and it was presented in a beautiful dessert cup.
It was topped with red beans which I did not expect.
Overall the milk pudding was smooth and creamy but slightly too sweet.

A quick stop for some food

Original Playground (Quarry Bay)
I was in the area and this was a joint that I have not tried so decided to try it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Laksa tagliatelle:

Too spicy and the coconut was too strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

A light vegetable soup with lots of vegetables gently flavoured with herbs.

Disappointing breakfast at The News Room

The News Room (Quarry Bay)

Before my visit to The News Room, I have always thought of it as a place for quality food.
Came here randomly for breakfast and regretted not taking photos of the menu.

The description for Newsroom breakfast was: tomato, egg, Toulouse sausage, Baguette, Bacon, Black pudding, potato rosti, mushroom and baked beans.

The baguette was the tiniest baguette I have seen in my life, it was merely bigger than the sausage!

The potato rosti was a stupid cold hash brown!
(potato rosti is basically grated potatoes fried into a round or irregular shape).

As for the black pudding, it was the thinnest sliced black pudding you could ever get.

The baked beans were not the Heinz brand and the Toulouse sausage was not my cup of tea.

Toko Surabaya at Quarry Bay

Toko Surabaya (Quarry Bay)

Came on the right day but at the wrong time because quite a lot of the food was sold out.

It is located in the residential area of Quarry Bay between Quarry Bay MTR and Tai Koo MTR.

Locating this place was easy and I felt that it was easier walking from Tai Koo MTR than QB MTR because it is downhill and the station is not so irritating.

This joint sells Indonesian goods and foods and there is a table to dine there too.

It has been here for ages and LittleMeg and "sainamdaiocknam" has dined here before so I was expecting the food to be good here.

Originally I wanted the flavoured yellow ginger rice but it was sold out so I got the Indonesian assortment with rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Indonesian assortment with rice:
It was rice topped with beans, egg, peanuts, chicken, beef rendang and Chayote slices.
I liked the Chayote slices (Buddha's hand melon) because it was sweet and soft but not many people eat them in Hong Kong because they are used for soups and people find them tasteless.
The rest of the meat had strong coconut taste and the beef was slightly spicy but nice.

The brand new look of Mian

Mian (Quarry Bay)

Previously this shop was located at North Point famous for serving Chinese pappardelle noodles.

The new Mian is much more hip and modern located on the same street as Yo Bago.

The menu is nice and simple too.

I came back for the pappardelle noodles and to try the savoury rice which was a new addition.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pappardelle noodles and beef cheeks:

The portion size is much bigger than before and the taste was good as before so the standard has been kept!
The beef cheeks were lovely and tender.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Savoury rice:

The rice was really nice especially with the celery leaves on top giving it a nice aroma.
I just felt that the rice was too mushy and salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mian homemade sauce:

They used to have jars of this on the table but now they only give you a reasonable amount!

The Turkish mediterranean warmth of Quarry bay

TAVA Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine (Quarry Bay)

This hip Turkish restaurant is located on the quiet end of Quarry bay near the Island East Markets.

After visiting the market, I decided to dine there but it was closed.

Came here another time.

The decor of this place was nice and modern with circle themes.

I was a bit annoyed because not all the items were available during lunch even though it was on the menu.

The eggplant special which was traditional palace style mashed and dressed eggplant topped with lamb or chicken or vegetable saute served with rice was not available for lunch.

Anyway, as there was not much worth trying I ordered the beef roll and the noodle fusion.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodle fusion:
This tasted exactly like Vietnamese style Cambodian noodles in tomato sauce.
The chicken with chicken skin included tasted nice because it was roasted.
The only complaint was that it was too oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef roll:
The beef roll was just the usual Turkish fare.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Turkish Tea:
This was the usual Turkish tea served in a small Turkish glass and tastes like red tea.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sauces:
There was garlic sauce, chili sauce and mayonnaise.

Crispy onions:

Rock hard dehydrated chocolate cake @ New Phoenix cake shop

After trying their delicious chicken pie, walked past another day and the chocolate cake caught my eye.
It "LOOKED LIKE" a really nice Western chocolate cake with a cherry on top.
I asked what it was, but the staff there didnt seem to get my question.
Anyway I got one, and when they picked it up, it seemed really hard and unfresh, but I did not bother to ask for a fresher one.
When it was picked up by the tongs, the cake did not deform or compress so you can imagine how hard it was.
As I was carrying it, the cream in the middle and on the top was so brittle that the cherry fell off with the cream intact.
The taste was totally Chinese, the typical salted chocolate cream.
The cake was dry and hard.
Yuck!
