Taro and coconut snow flake ice @ 甜蜜子甜品店 Sweet C. C. Dessert

Last time I came, they did'nt have the combo, so this time i ordered the taro and coconut combo, it was quite pretty two colours together.

The staff and service was still as good as last time, I shall be back for more when I come to TST again.

Sago with ice-cream and grass jelly @ 金滿堂甜品 Golden Hall Dessert

Ordered the sago with ice-cream and grass jelly, reasonable portion size and only cost $10.
Then got the snowflake ice with Italian grass jelly and mini glutinous dumplings that cost $13.
So for two reasonable desserts it cost $23 altogether!! Usually for $20 you can only get a basic dessert, the only thing is you can only eat at the stand tables or take away.

Dessert wise, the sago tasted ok, the snowflake one, I chose the Italian grass jelly to go with it so I could compare it to the one at chung’s dessert (po lam one).
Although I only chose two toppings to go with the snowflake ice, they gave other items with it such as red beans for free which I was not appreciative of, I hate red beans!! That is why I don’t go to the traditional dessert houses such as moon gay or Big 8. I would also given the normal grass jelly too, which was good, so I could taste the difference between their Italian one and the cube ones.
The snowflake ice only had three flavours tofu, chocolate and mango, the chocolate was a bit bitter.

Basically I felt, some of the desserts were copied from other places such as the Italian grass jelly with ginger sauce from chung’s in po lam, and the glutinous rice balls with maltesers also copied from cousins “bew jeah dessert”

Noodles in curry sauce @ PappaMia Coffee Restaurant

On arrival, there was a stand outside displaying the different lunch sets, I was slightly disappointed because being a Malaysian restaurant, the lunch sets were Chinese food.

As a new restaurant, I would of thought they should have been promoting their dishes rather than serving chinese sets, however they did have a booth at East Point City’s Malaysian festival promoting their restaurant.

It is quite interesting that the Malay restaurants use parental nouns as the restaurant name such as this one Pappa, and the one in central uses Mama in the name.

Comparing this restaurant to Malaymama, this one is obviously a big scale restaurant and the items on the menu are more extensive.
They both serve Ip Po Ho Fun, but the price at Malaymama is $3x, while the one here is about double that.
There are some items here that are served at Toast box such as the half-boiled eggs however Pappamia is an expensive version of Malaymama and Toast box combined.
I still havent been to Sh!ok or that Good Satay place in TST so I cannot compare to that.

Inside the restaurant, the decor is similar to Yeh Lam Kwok.
The average price per dish was like $50-60 which is quite expensive.

There were a few items on the menu, which were interesting: soymilk and grass jelly
and soya milk with sweet dumplings.

I felt the local waitors didn’t have much knowledge on Malaysian food, because some customer complained their fried “gwai deal” was not in long strands, and the waitress obviously thought it was chinese ho fun and agreed the chef cooked it badly.
It was later explained by the head waitor the dish was meant to be like that.

Apart from the noodles, there was quite a controversy on their tea too, there were a lot of queries and different expectations from customers, so I think their menu should state clearly about their teas.

Ordered four dishes: Chicken Hainan style, Noodles in curry sauce, grass jelly and lychee drink, and the sago in coconut sauce.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hainan chicken:
It came with the usual three sauces, chilli, soya and ginger puree.
There was also beanshoots and pineapple too.
The pineapple has been cooked, so it is slightly sour.
The rice was too hard, and the table nearby also complained it was too hard and oily.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Noodles in curry sauce:
There was not much broth, but sufficient curry sauce, it tasted like red curry.
The fish slices that came with it were ok, and the fried fish in beancurd skin was the best.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Grass jelly and lychee drink:
In the menu this was classified as a drink, but it looked more like a dessert.
The size of the cup was huge too, almost slightly bigger than the average soup bowl.
It was very refreshing, there was slushed lychee ice with the grass jelly.
The lychee was a bit too sweet, but it was canned lychees.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sago in coconut sauce:
This was quite nice, the coconut sauce tastes like those brown coconut candies wrapped in colour wrapping.'

Overall, I think the desserts scored better, although I have yet to try the noodles in crab oil.

An honest owner that deserves an "icy praise 冰讚"

Amongst all the Chinese cafes on Thompson Road, this dessert shop stood out being bright orange.

However during lunchtimes there are crowds of people at the restaurants beside it, so if you are at the entrance of Thompson road, it is probably blocked out of view.

During lunch hours, I doubt people would stop by for dessert unless they serve lunch sets.
Anyway I liked the decoration and the chain of brightly coloured balls on the ceiling. Not sure how authentic it claims to be, but it did have interesting items such as Honey Aiyu Jelly and Dessert with eight treasures.
The menu was good because it had English.

I got the Honey Aiyu jelly dessert because usually you just find it as a side on snowflake ice and in drinks. It was a big bowl of Honey Aiyu Jelly in sweet liquid, about 60% jelly and 40% liquid, without the liquid it would be tasteless, same as how grass jelly is served.
The liquid tasted like prune juice, it was slightly sour and refreshing, then it tasted like lemon, although it was meant to be honey. Overall, the aiyu jelly was refreshing and the honey wasn’t too sweet. As for the grass jelly with sweet dumplings, the liquid for the grass jelly was too sweet, and the dumplings were a bit too floury. The grass jelly was in big chunks. When I ordered the grass jelly, the owner said there are no strawberries as featured in the product picture.
I really appreciated the honestly rather than complaining there were no strawberries.
Hence that explains my title [An honest owner that deserves an "icy praise 冰讚" IN A GOOD WAY!!!!]
Next time I should try their savoury snacks, especially the fried tofu skin and octopus strips.
