Lovely plain Hokkaido icecream

Shop: Kasho Chaya (Causeway Bay)

Came back for their delicious ice-cream!
It is so nice you can never get sick of it.

This time I got plain icecream because I was not interested in the rest of the fancy addons such as red beans, green tea jelly etc.

Hokkaido icecream:

The plain icecream is not a bad deal because you actually get quite a fair amount of icecream in it.
The ice-cream was very dense and thick, yet very airy, with fine air bubbles infused inside.
It was very interesting, because it was like cold thick mousse and gooey marshmallow.

Sanuki udon and cheap tempura

Shop: Udon Dokoro Imasuke (Tai Kok Tsui)

To be honest I do not like Sanuki udon but I only came here because Hyatti was closed.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Udon with sakura shrimp:

There were quite a lot of choices for udon, I wish I chose the one with mountain yam but ended up choosing this one.
The udon here is homemade because it is not quite uniform.
There is nothing wrong with their udon but I have never liked the Sanuki type because it is chewy and tasteless.
The one I ordered was quite tasteless too because there is no sauce on it and the waitress said the soy kelp sauce was for the tempura.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seaweed prawn tempura:

The batter was quite thick and the oil was slightly rancid.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mochi tempura:
The mochi tempura was tasteless.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The tempuras were quite cheap, they were around $10 per portion.

Back for more Eastern delights

Shop: 京川滬風味小食坊 (Prince Edward)

Since my last visit, the tiny joint has expanded from a 6 seat shop to a slightly bigger joint.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ribs in sauce:
They provide you with gloves and a bag for the bones.
I have tried this before but this time the meat was not that soft and it did not come off the bones easily.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pearl rice dumplings:
These were minced pork balls covered in moist soft glutinous rice.
They are exactly like Shanghai dumplings but covered in glutinous rice.
The glutinous rice on the outside was really soft and moist it reminded me of wrapped glutinous rice.
Anyway, they taste really nice after you dip them with the magic chili bean sauce provided on the table.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beancurd sheets with kelp:
The beancurd sheets and kelp were well seasoned with vinegar but the beancurd sheets could have been softer.

Porks trotter in vinegar near the roundabout

Shop:
三盞燈馮記豬腳姜
Address:
Santo Antonio
新橋(三盞燈/白鴿巢)圓形地街市熟食檔

This stall is located just off a roundabout.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Porks trotter in vinegar:
I have always wanted to try this place but I did not know what it is called.
Just happened to walk past it because the place I was going to go did not have boiled pork brains.
This place is famous for skewers of vinegared pork knuckles. however when I got mine they were placed in a bowl.
They were extremely difficult to eat using two thin skewers so I gave up eating them.
The parts that I could eat were lovely, soft and sticky.
The vinegar they used was lovely and sour.

A big disappointment with Roadside

Shop: Roadside (Prince Edward)

I rarely go to the North end of Prince Edwards, so this time I gathered 3-4 places I wanted to try around that area:
Lan Yuen Chee Koon, Roadside, Bake & Bite and Ueno Bakery & Enzyme.

This was the first shop on my list because it was the closest to the MTR exit.

However it was 3.15 and it had still not opened so I went to Bake & Bite first.
[Their opening hours are from 3pm]

After eating at Bake & Bite, this shop was finally open!

I did not appreciate the loudspeaker pumping loud music right above the ordering counter because it was hard to order food.
It was so loud you could hear it across the road.

This was the shop that actually made me come to Prince Edwards because of all the Western snacks.

I was really looking forward to this place and was really disappointed by this place because I wanted to order the curry lamb pie, scotch egg and the salted pork knuckles as shown on their Facebook page.

A different menu when I got there

So I ended up ordering fish and chips and Dover fish bites.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish and potato wedges:

I was expecting fish and chips as shown on their Facebook page, but it was potato wedges.
The fish had been marinated for too long and it was too salty.
The batter was too thick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dover Fish bites:

These were pieces of fish coated in breadcrumbs.
Initially it was nice but a lot of it was drizzled with sweet sauce so I did not like it.
It was also very salty.
I can't quite correlate the name with Dover because in Dover (in the South East of UK) they don't do this snack and the fish was not dover sole either.

Walnut rice milk with pine nuts

Shop: 85C

The Walnut rice milk was so delicious I went back for it again.
I ordered the cold one because you can also have it hot.
This time it was served in a paper cup.
The lid was nice and interesting.

When you open the stopper, there is foil on the hole which is quite hygienic.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Walnut rice milk with pine nuts:
The walnut drink was really nice and creamy.
It was quite thick too with finely grounded pieces of rice, walnut and pinenuts.
I really recommend ordering this drink.

Crispy seaweed salmon rolls

Shop: Sushi Take Out
Went to Sushi Take Out to get some sushi for later and saw these interesting long rolls.

Usually they are sliced into smaller rolls but there were three long ones inside the box.

The Hang Hau branch is quite small but there is a mini sushi factory behind the window.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy seaweed salmon rolls:
When I took them out I assumed they were already wrapped, but the seaweed sheet was separated from the rice.
You have to remove the film and roll it yourself.

The design is so that the seaweed is crispy when you eat it.
They reminded me of the hand rolls at the local convenience stores where you remove the plastic and wrap the seaweed on the rice.

Anyway the salmon rolls tasted really nice especially since the seaweed was crispy, after adding soy sauce and wasabi it tasted even better.
