[Review] Dark Sugars

I was really looking forward to the hot chocolate at Dark Sugars.

There are two branches on Brick Lane.
Visited the one on the corner of Bacon Road which was really disappointing.
I arrived on a weekday afternoon and the door was locked so I thought just my luck it was closed but just as I was leaving someone opened door.
Without further ado I ordered the nutmeg hot chocolate but unfortunately the lady didn't bother to cut more chocolate and just scooped the crumbs from the chopping board to my hot choc.
Hence it was not as instaworthy as I had hoped and if you hadn't seen instagram you wouldn't have known to voice out.
Sadly I should have waited as the customers after me got instaworthy hot chocolates.

As there are two branches, I decided to try my luck at the other branch and it was really rewarding, the girls there were really nice.
The other branch is bigger with a bigger place to sit.

Also tried the cocoa tea which is made with cocoa beans.
The taste was a bit sour like drinking Cascara Tea.

[Review] Dum Dums Donutterie London

I am always looking for a sweet treat especially donuts.

At Dum Dum Donutterie, there were donuts and cronuts.

Cronuts are not my thing so it was clearly donuts and the new raspberry and pistachio was definitely a choice for me.
Basically a ring donut filled with coconut buttercream topped with icing and crushed pistachio buts.

Taking a bite, the doughnut was a rather firm one yet the the buttercream was much lighter and runnier than anticipated so the firm donut kept it together well.

It was slightly messy to eat as the filling kept squirting out but it was delicious however I found the icing much sweeter than the filling so the sweetness overpowered the whole thing.

Overall, a cute donutterie and the guy there was lovely.

[Review] Pannus Cafe, Camden

I was looking for a place for tea in Camden and went here because Cube Cafe had run out of Cream Teas.
In a way, I am glad they ran out as I ended up here as this cafe is facing the Camden Lock canal with beautiful views.

I was greeted by cakes and these super cute mini doughnut and croissants.

Ended up having the matcha apple cake to go with tea.

Apart from the lovely view, I wasn't that impressed with the presentation of the cake as it was a bit messy with cakes all around the edges of the plate.

Stain marks could also be seen on the cup!

The cake was soggy at the bottom.
Strangely the cake was served on a saucer and not a proper plate.

To summarize the cake was quite soggy and the taste of the apple pieces were quite artificial while the synthetic cream was a bit dehydrated as you can literally separate it from the cake.

After googling this cafe, it seems that it is new and possibly still under teething stages but there are other branches as it is a franchise from Barcelona.
This could be the first branch in UK?

Second branch of Home Dumplings

This is the second branch of Home Dumplings in the area.
The first branch is near Central with more dumplings to choose from which are on rotation.

At this branch you can only choose the choices on the wall and it wasn't as exciting as my first visit to the other branch as I was faced with so many choices of sauce and different dumplings.

Anyway, tried the dumpling with preserved vegetables.
It was palatable and the preserved vegetables were chunky and salty.
The pork had some weird chewy bits in it which I didn't eat.
Overall, ok but a bit pricey.

Snacks as well as drinks
2019-10-21  date visited.
As well as V Walk and TST, you can now find  attakai kokoro in Yuen Long.
The shop is bigger and better as they serve local snacks as well as drinks.

I had the avocado jasmine which was an interesting combination.
I didn't like it as it tasted like watered down avocado in the sense the it was the creaminess diluted with jasmine tea whilst there was this savory and sweetness in the taste.
Not my cup of tea.

[Review - 鼎·會館 Ding's Club] Shunde delight's headed by Celebrity Chef Ding!

Celebrity Chef Ding has been rocking the kitchen with his passionate cooking and recipes which are healthy and MSG free.
At Ding's Club, he is collaborating with Chef Lee Cheung and whipping Shunde Cuisine featuring the Shunde feast for six at HK$4,888 which is inclusive of 10% available now until 31st October at this early bird price.

To start off, began with the meaty lobster which was tasty and not tenderized with cornflour so you can truly appreciate the taste of lobster.

Next was the steamed pork and mud carp patty.
Again, you can taste the freshness of the pork, but the mud carp patty was the star of the show as the texture was springy like minced prawn patty and it was boneless which is worth mentioning.
Of all the mud carp patties I have had, they all contain bones and fish scales but this one doesn't.

The next course was soup made of fish and shark fin.
It was creamy yet light with lots of fine pieces of fish in it, again without any msg and artificial thickeners you can really appreciate the taste and the ingredients.

For abalone lovers, the coating for the abalone was thin and crispy with a touch of salt and pepper.

Spotted Scat served in two ways: Sliced fillet, assorted vegetables.
Having the spotted scat slices with vegetables were tasty as there were many ingredients to go with it.

Steamed fin and head with dried tangerine peel.
The fish was complimented nicely by the tangerine peel and sauce which made you hungrier.

Pan fried chicken fillet, assorted pepper, premium soy sauce.
The chicken fillet was tender and coated with a nice soy sauce glaze, the only complaint would be the bones.

Wintermelon curd filled with matsutake and wild mushrooms:
Before the noodles, had this refreshing vegetable dish of wintermelon topped with mushrooms.

Braised goose fillet on flat rice noodles:
The star of the show had to be the noodles beneath which has absorbed all the goose essence.

Dessert finished with the Double boiled fresh milk custard and taro puree and the Traditional sugar cake.
The milk custard was silky and the taro puree on top was not too sweet without being too starchy.

Overall, I would definitely recommend eating here because of the fresh ingredients they use and they don't use MSG.

[Review] Cavendish Bakery

Cavendish Bakery is a local bakery that has been in Eastbourne for at least 45 years on the corner of Cavendish Place.

My grandma got me treats from there like Swiss Buns and the cream slice which they don't seem to do anymore.

Anyway, I have been away for a while so the first thing I did was eat there when I got back.

Had the Steak and Kidney pie, Traditional pasty, Donut with cream and the Swiss Bun.

The Swiss bun is a must because that sweet icing topping is so damn good with the soft bun.

If I could go back in time I would have the cream slice again.
