True Blood infusion by oral administration

Had a quick catch up with my busy energetic sunshine friend, so we had a drink at The Envoy which is headed by local mixologist Antonio Lai and fellow mixologist Amanda Wan (Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year 2010 for Malaysia).

The Envoy is located on the 3rd floor of the classy boutique hotel The Pottinger.

As well as a bar, they serve lunches from Monday to Friday but as I don't work in Central I havent had a chance to go.

When you enter the bar, there are so many bottles, kegs and interesting mixology items around.

Towards the end, there is a dining area and a roof top bar.

As my friend was buying me a drink, I tried the award-winning True Blood #2 bloodbag cocktail inspired by Gram Stroker’s Dracula.
The one I had did not have any alcohol so I suppose it could be called True Virgin Blood!
This bag of True Blood got Antonio a second place in the BOLS AROUND THE WORLD 2014 Bartending Championship!! WELL DONE ANTONIO !!

It was not the first time I have tried Antonio's drinks.
As a non alcoholic person I was attracted by his beautiful creations at the Quinaryand Origin.
(Please see links at the end of this review for the happy bathtub drink and Earl Grey caviar.

My precious bloodbag arrived promptly and I was so excited that I forgot to take a video of it in the metal kidney dish which I am really kicking myself for that!

In the bloodbag is a nutritious cocktail of orange, lemon, cranberry and beetroot juice with a dash of homemade ginseng liqueur and Bols Genever. (Normal version).
The one I had was practically the same but without Ginseng liquer and Bols Genever.

The labelling was really cute too.

Bloodbag information:
+Delicious for vampires or humans
+Succulent source of electrolytes
+Similar nutrients to real blood
+Up to four hours of pure energy
+Delectable source of iron
+Garlic Free
+Open it for emergency

Benefits from drinking True Blood:
1.Replenish you energy by 60% after drinking
2.Strengthen your fangs
3.Block out sunlight by 20%
4.Accelerate your speed
5.Gain your glamour power

After taking pictures, I just couldn't wait to drink it.
The pouch was placed into a metal cup with ice.

Finally tried it and it was so delicious with a strong beetroot taste infused with citrus flavours.
The sweetness was just right and there was no unpleasant aftertaste.
I wish the bloodbag was bigger but blood is precious and in limited quantities~

Fine French wines from Rhone Valley

From now until end of May, Enoteca are doing a Rhone food and wine matching experience.
I was really lucky to be invited to go because I am not an expert on wines so it was the perfect opportunity to find out more.

The wine selection was quite impressive with prices starting at $1xx.

At the tasting session, the wines available for tasting were:
Domaine Durieu 2010, Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Domaine des Bosquets 2010, Gigondas
Domaine des Escaravailles La Ponce Rasteau 2009, Cote du Rhone
Charles Hours Happy Hours Cool Sec 2007, Jurancon
Gerard Bertrand Aigle Noir Brut 2004, Cremant de Limoux

They varied from different levels of pepperiness and wine tannins.

To go with the wines, there was:
Pate en croute - Richelieu, Porcini saucisson, Walnuts Saucisson, Duck cured sausage, Mini balls of saucissons.

My favourite was the pate en croute which went well with all the wines. The waxier saucissons went well with the strong peppery wines.

More sweet treats from Marks & Spencer

Just felt like some dessert so went to Marks and Spencers for some yoghurt and ended up buying other items as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry fruit fool:

I always had this as a kid but I never really looked at the label to see what it was made of.
Basically the strawberry fruit fool is Strawberries mixed with whipped cream.
It has a lovely light whipped texture with a natural strawberry taste, great on a summers day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cider fizz with a hint of spice:
Cider cocktail flavoured with nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves.

I don't drink, but this tasted really nice.
It tastes just as good as appletiser (formerly known as appletise in the early 1980s) but it has a sweeter taste with fragrant spices from the nutmeg and cinnamon.
I wouldn't mind drinking this again because the alcohol volume is quite low.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salted caramel & Hazelnut Luxury yoghurt:

I couldn't quite taste the salted caramel, but I loved it because it was thick and it had a lot of crushed nuts in it with the usual tartness of yoghurt.

ori-gin, it all begins with gin!

ori-gin is gin themed bar serving fun cocktails by mixologist Antonio Lai.

In the 1920s, gin was a popular drink.

Many people made homemade spirits which required water, the bottle could not be filled at the sink because the sink was too shallow hence filled using the bathtub tap hence the name Bathtub gin!

At Ori-gin they have a real bath tub there, not for making gin but for washing your hands outside the toilet.

Previously I tried Quinary which is about the fives senses so I was expecting something similar.
I have always wanted to try the KGB cocktail because it is served in a cute bathtub with FOAM and a rubber duck as well!

The Ori-ginal KGB cocktail has:
Gin, Japanese Kyoho grape liqueur, lemon and lime juice, elderflower syrup, topped with kyoho tea air.

I tried the non-alcoholic version.

Initially I wasn't sure how it would taste because of the Kyoho grapes.
Most of the Kyoho grape flavours I have tried in the past taste artificial.

It was fun seeing the bathtub being filled, so it was good sitting at the bar.
The bathtub was filled with pretty glistening gold Kyoho grape caviar.

It was then filled with the cocktail.

Then topped with foam and it was ready!~!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
KGB cocktail (non alcholic):

Definitely a must after trying it because it tastes good as well looking fun!
The grape taste was not artificial and the best thing was that it was not sweet and I loved the caviar jelly at the bottom too!
The drink was also refreshing because of the lemon and lime juice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Special drink produced for Nespresso event:
See the cute bottle on the LEFT

I loved this drink because it was a good balance of alchohol and coffee and it tasted like a thick milkshake!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Just for fun:
After drinking my KGB, I filled the tub with water and put the duck in!~
However it is not advised to put the duck in the DRINK itself!!

Quinary's magical journey of five senses

As you know I do not drink so what captivated me here?

Well it all started when I saw the latest review featuring three bottles filled with thick white liquid called the Marshmallow Duo.

Then I checked their website and found out they also had a non alcoholic mocktail that I could try too called the JAX SUMMER LOVE made with Jax's coconut water, pandan syrup and dessicated coconut.

On my first attempted visit, I went with a friend that drinks but when we got there it was fully booked.

A few days later I was in Central again, so decided to try the non alchoholic drink only.

This time it was fully booked again apart from the bar table.

I don't usually like sitting at the bar table because it feels a bit weird but surprisingly it was entertaining and fun at the Quinary.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
JAX SUMMER LOVE:
Mocktail: coco jelly/ pandan syrup/Jax Coco water/coconut flakes

I knew I was going to like it because the drink was coconut water based.
It was a refreshing sweet drink with a hint of coconut but the pandan flavouring was too light, but too much of it would have been too sweet because it was pandan syrup.
The coconut flakes just acted like some pretty snowflakes floating on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MARSHMALLOW DUO:
Absolut Vanilla/ marshmallow milkshake/cream/ egg white/ grilled marshmallow/ aged Manhattan/

It was so nice of the guy to let me try some because I really wanted to try it.
When it came, I realised why it was called a Shot because of the size.
The bottle was about 4 inches tall and really cute like a mini glass cola bottle which I would'nt mind having!
The taste of this was dreamy, it was light foam milkshake with fine bubbles.
It had a gorgeous vanilla taste but as a non drinker, I would prefer less vodka because I found it too strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wasabi redistilled Absolut Vodka:

The guy also gave me this to try and it reminded me of the Horse's head at The Blue Butcher which was a fun cocktail of gin infused with horseradish giving a moreish savoury taste with a mustard kick and egg white foam cap on top sprinkled with green tea powder.
When I tried the wasabi vodka, it was fierce~ because my lips were scorching.
Initally I thought it was the vodka, but then I realised it was the wasabi stinging on my lips!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
QUINARY BLOODY MARY:
Wasabi redistilled Absolut Vodka/homemade bloody mary mix/ lemon & tomato juice/ up

The bloody mary was basically the wasabi vodka with tomato and lemon juice added to it.
The taste was much nicer with a sharp wasabi kick instead of the tabasco chili kick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
EARL GREY CAVIAR
For fun tried some earl grey caviar that he had made for the Earl Grey Caviar martini.
It was earl grey liquid injected into a caviar mold.

After the droplets were immersed in calcified liquid, a membrane forms and turns into earl grey caviar.

I love the caviar and it had intense earl grey taste.

The earl grey caviar is made for the Earl Grey Caviar martini which is a concoction of:
Absolut Vodka/ elderflower syrup/apple juice/ Cointreau/lemon & lime/earl grey caviar & air/ up.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Anyway, I'll be back because they do snacks as well and the Mac and Cheese spoons sound interesting whatever that is.

The Quinary has certainly proved to be exciting for the five senses because they look, smell, taste, feel and sound good from start to finish!

If the owner had not appeared, I would not have known that Quinarystands for five and their meaning behind it.
