Brunch at Americanos

Since my last visit, there are new breakfast items so I went here for brunch.

Iced tea:

It was iced earl grey so I really liked it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Huevos Americanos:
The taco wraps were not soft enough but the runny egg yolk and delicious toppings made up for it and the bacon was the best because it was crispy and not too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
breakfast burrito:
The breakfast burrito was really tasty because it was loaded with cheese, egg, black beans and guacamole.

Being Streetwise on the New York City subway

I've never been to the US let alone NY city so I was excited about Street Meat which is a restaurant decorated like Prince St Station.

There was a Harvard gathering that night so we had to sit on the bar tables and Gordan Ramsey also opened his restaurant that night too.

Anyway, here was what we had and it was my first time trying all these items so I don't know if this is what you would really get in New York so I am just going to comment on the taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Flushing lamb wrap:
Sous vide lamb with grilled leeks and Xinjiang spices.

This was gorgeous and flavourful, there was quite a lot of sauce too which made it difficult to eat but the flakey roti pastry held it together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Midtown Halal bowl:
chicken sous vide with secret white greek yoghurt sauce and iceburg lettuce

This was my favourite and surprisingly filling because there was rice beneath it which I didn't expect and the rice was crispy and sticky, while the chicken was tender in generous appetizing yoghurt sauce.
The chicken was slow cooked.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prince Street Station Sliders:
Wagyu beef tongue, foie gras in a toasted bun.

I was expecting it in a bun and not in a bikini but the toast was actually better, however there was too much butter in the toast which made it a bit sickly.
The wagyu beef tongue was amazing because it was soft and melted in your mouth but the foie gras was almost non existent.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Canal Street wonton crisp:
Potato puree, liver pate and truffle

This was another surprise because I was expecting something that looked like a wonton.
I didn't like this one because the base was a clump of deep fried noodles which were crispy and oily topped with sickly potato mash on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, I quite enjoyed the food and I will come back again but there are not many items on the menu though! (To be exact, there were only 10 items on that visit.)

Great American comforts at The News Room Diner

Although I am British, any food that is British, American or French is comforting.

The News Room had a facelift and is now a Diner serving great American food.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The new look:

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried crispy prawns:

These were peeled prawns coated in breadcrumbs on a stick and fried.
They were crispy and tasty complemented by the creamy dipping sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mac 'N' Cheese:

The Mac and cheese was my favourite because it was cheesy with a mix of chedder and creamy cheese. The macaroni was al-dente and it was comforting that they used proper macaroni and not the local stuff.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Quesadilla with pollo:

Quesadillas are always my favourite because it had gorgeous melted cheddar cheese in the middle with chicken served with my favourite sour cream, guacamole and salsa.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sauteed vegetables:

The sauteed vegetables had a fragrant buttery garlic taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab salad:

We had the salad too as we ordered quite a bit of meat and it had my favourite crisp and sweet gem lettuce with fresh pieces of crabmeat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Buffalo wings:

The wings were really tasty with the creamy blue cheese dressing and a dash of hot sauce to give it that Buffalo touch.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Philly cheese teak:

Although I am not fond of beef, this is one that I would eat because of the thinly slices of tasty beef and juicy green peppers, onions and delicious cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dirty Mexican:

This was a hotdog topped with spicy pulled pork in chipotle sauce.
I found the sauce a bit sweet and it was not spicy enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The wagyu:

The Wagyu burger was topped with bacon, cheese, tomato and truffle mayo.
As I wanted to try the desserts, I was too full to try this.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
bbq pork ribs:

The ribs were sweet and soft but were a little on the dry side.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Now to the desserts which I was looking forward to!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
New York cheese case:

The cheesecake was dense and rich, with the top white layer having a strong cheese taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
homed made donuts:

This was my favourite, soft and crisp donuts which went nicely with the cream and marmalade.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chocolate sundae:

hot fudge, caramel, peanuts with cookies ice cream.
I didn't try this because I was really full.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As a summary my favourites were: quesadilla, Philly cheese steak, macaroni and cheese and the home made donuts!!

The American dream by a Brit

Although I am British, I love my pub grub, fish and chips, roast etc but I also crave for American, Southwestern and Louisana Creole food!

When I found out about The Diner serving American food with cool American decor, it was the place to go.
There is another similar diner nearby called Al's diner where I tried fish and chips.

Anyway, the decor and setting reminded me of this really nice American Diner called Ed's Easy Diner in the UK which had dukeboxes, black and white floor tiles and red stools.

At The Diner, it was amazing, there was a real 1958 Cadillac sofa with working tail lights surrounded by authentic 1970's license plates, working traffic lights, pedestrian lights and a vintage Coke sign.

I was so lucky to sit at the bar table because I could see all the food being made and it was nice facing Arbuthnot Road.

The chefs were really hygienic because they had gloves on when handling food.

While I sat there, I caught a glimpse of the Hippie Burger which I shall order on my next visit.
The Hippie burger is a vegetarian beetroot and bean patty burger.

Kids get special treatment because their food is served in cute little Cadillac paper cutout models.

Burgers start at $125 and they have toasted sandwiches and all day breakfasts as well.

I settled for the Mac and Cheese balls and the grilled cheese sandwich.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mac n Cheese Balls:
America's favorite comfort food in a crispy crumb with a touch of jalapeno and a side of fresh tomato & basil sauce

This was nice and loaded with cheese and macaroni but I wish the cheese was stronger and less of the jalapeno because the jalapeno taste was too prominent and spicy for me.
I would have also preferred normal macaroni and not the ribbed one.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled Cheese:
Cheddar and bourbon bacon jam melted in griddled sourdough

This was delicious because the bacon jam was sweet but again I would liked more cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
A few days later, it was reported on the paper that this place is actually opened by a Brit!
Way to go Marcus Thomson and that really nice Chef Seb!!!!

Get a stack of this

Discovered this new joint serving American pancakes with a good range of sweet and savoury pancakes which are served stacked hence the name of the restaurant STACK.

STACK is located on the corner of third street of Sai Ying Pun opened by the handsome twins of Common Ground.

Sai Yung Pun used to be far when I didn't know my way around but now it only takes a mere 5 minutes walk from Caine Road.

Inside the joint, there was red neon lights contrasted by the metal frames.

The menu had drinks as well as pancakes.

I ordered the hash and savoury pancakes which were made of soba flour.

The chives on the pancakes were carefully arranged with a tweezer before they were served.

The twins!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mexican sunshine:

The size of the pancakes were smaller than I expected with the biggest pancake stacked on the bottom, followed by the smaller ones.

Pancakes unstacked.

On the top layer, there was a cute onsen quail egg.
The Mexican sunshine had guacamole mixed with yuzu dressing which I found to be extremely delicious because the Yuzu was very refreshing with tones of lime in it as well.
However, the pieces of avocado were not ripe and rather hard but the pancakes were nice as expected.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Hash:

The hash consisted of delicious julienne potatoes with pieces of duck in the middle paired with thick sour cream.
I was so glad I ordered this because it was just divine.
