Goodbye to KFC on Langney Road, Eastbourne

I love KFC and the one I usually go to is the Langney Road branch when I am in town.

Without this, the nearest one would be the drive through which is annoying if you don't drive.

The chicken legs here are moist if you happen to be there at the right time when they have been freshly fried.
The chicken has this lovely stickiness between the skin and the coating which is absolutely delicious and even more divine with extra gravy.
Anyway, sad to see it go and this is probably the beginning as lots more will probably close soon.

[Restaurant Review] Sam's Chicken

A while ago I was captivated by Sam's drumsticks bucket which seemed a good deal but as I have never tried Sam's I wasn't sure if their chicken was good.

Finally went to Sam's for their #friedchicken but I think I went the wrong time as the chicken was a bit cold and dry.

I am glad I only got one piece on my first visit and didn't get the bucket.
Although I wasn't impressed with the chicken I still want to try the katsu curry rice.

[Review] Roosters Spot - Croydon

I think I have been here a few years ago but I was too lazy to write it up so I am posting this visit while I remember.
The fried chicken is mostly good in London if it is done right.

Had the spicy wings and a piece of fried chicken.

The wings were very spicy and moist so it was really good, just a tad spicy but forgivable.

The chicken drumstick was just a little bit dry but I believe if I got it earlier then it wouldn't have been so dry.

Fried [Hainan Style chicken] at KFC 肯德基

In Hong Kong, KFC has a totally different recipe for the chicken coating so I rarely get KFC unless the flavour is interesting.
The KFC meals comes with waffle fries and not chips as served in UK which is another thing I don't like.

Anyway, the new Fried [Hainan Style chicken] captivated me because I love Scallion Oil.

The set comes with rice and a drink and you can also order two extra Hainan Style chicken wings.
Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong ones because they were spicy and tasted totally different from the star of the show.

As I said, the chicken wings were just spicy.

The star of the show was really tasty and you could taste spring onions in the coating.
The sauce that comes with this is chili and lime which really matches the chicken and gives a slight Thai kick to it.

It was good that it came with rice because I am not fond of Waffle fries.

Overall, the Fried [Hainan Style chicken] was impressive but not impressive because the chicken wings given were the wrong ones.

Korean fried chicken at Chibee

I don’t normally eat Korean food because the localized Korean food has turned me against it as every dish is just sweet and spicy.
Before Korean drama got popular, there were less choices but they were authentic.
Now there are so many Korean places about that range from Korean grills, rice bowls, rolls to desserts.
They used to be congregated in TST but now there are more on the Hong Kong side.
Chibee is located in Causeway Bay, which is great news for people on the Hong Kong side.

I love fried chicken so it is good that there are more options apart from KFC.
Korean fried chicken is slightly different, it is best paired with beer and it typically comes with salad and pickles.
The typical portion is a basket of half a chicken which has a chicken leg, breast and chicken wings.

The staff spoke English which was great because I could ask them about the different fried chickens they serve.

As I can’t eat Kimchi they had non spicy options as well.
The regular fried chicken comes with a side of yoghurt sauce so if you are worried the chicken is going to be dry there is a sauce.

Pickles:

As mentioned earlier, all the chicken comes with pickles and salad.
The pickles here stand out from the rest because they are coloured and not white which made them pretty.
I asked them whether the colour was artificial and they said they put beetroot in the jar to give it that colour.
The pickles tasted great because they were sour and not sweet like some other places.

Soy garlic fried chicken:

There was half a chicken here so the portion was big!!

The chicken was tender with a crispy coating drenched in sticky sweet soy garlic sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
steamed dumplings:

When they came I thought they looked like Shanghai style dumplings, inside they were filled with chives and Korean glass noodles.

To conclude they tasted like chive dumplings filled with generous chopped veggies.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Basil and pesto cream fried chicken:

As I am not familiar with Korean fried chicken I had to ask what this was because I was puzzled how they put cream in the batter mix.
It turns out that the fried chicken is served with a pot of basil and pesto cream sauce for dipping like a fondue.
I chose the boneless chicken for this which was ideal because you just dip them in.
The sauce had a lovely strong basil taste but I found it too creamy.
It would be great if they came up with a cheese fondue sauce for dipping because I love cheese!

Cheese and ham toasts:

These rolls were crispy filled with ham, chopped jalapeno and cheese in the middle.
They were simply delicious and addictive.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fruit punch:

This was a lovely cocktail of fruits with a refreshing tone.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Beergarita:
My friend ordered this and it just looked fun!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will definitely come back again when I have a craving for fried chicken because I don't need to travel to Kowloon or beyond Central on the Hong Kong side.

The menu at Jollibee has changed

Went here in the evening because there were less people.
[I liked the way the staff was siting behind the wall so the manager couldn't see her skive!!]

To my dismay, there were quite a few items that were gone such as the bangus with rice, palabok noodles and the noodle soup.

The menu was pretty basic and just had fried chicken, spaghetti, hotdogs and the pie.
In the end I got the chicken, creamy macaroni, mango peach pie and hot chocolate.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken joy:

The chicken was very oily but at least it wasn’t shriveled up.
I was given lots of napkins so I was able to blot of the excess oils.
As for the chicken it was a bit too dry but there was gravy which was a bit too salty.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
creamy macaroni:

The creamy macaroni was really nice, it was ribbed macaroni in thick soup that tasted like instant chicken soup but the soup was a little salty though.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
mango peach pie:

I got this for fun and the size of the pie was just bigger than a sachet of sugar shown on the picture.

A guilt free snack because of its size but the price of it is the same as McDonalds!!
It was quite sweet with soft chunks of mango and peach.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
hot chocolate:

I tried the chocolate before the pie and it was really sweet, after having the pie, the drink was no longer sweet.
The chocolate was quite nice because I did not stir it so it tasted watery with a chocolatey taste but after I mixed it, I didn’t like it because it tasted powdery.
