Hui Lau Shan Choco-series (Choco-strawberry)

Hui Lau Shan is getting impressive these days, it used to be boring mango and chinese fruit desserts.

After discovering I could request for drinks to be less sweet, the drinks became nicer, and the last time I had HLS was the chocolate fondue.
It was nice to have chocolate fondue elsewhere rather than at a western dessert house.

Again, saw this chocolate drink which is unusual for HLS, quite different to its style.
This time a chocolate beverage!
The good thing about HLS is that the drink is guaranteed to contain real fruit rather than fruit syrups or essenses.

After I tried all three flavours, I found that it tasted different in different branches, also the pricing was different!
In conclusion, the HLS at MetroCity is the best for the choco-series.
The other two at Hang Hau and Wanchai tasted like slushy blended ice milo with a powdery chocolate taste!
From the other two reviews, the photo shows that the chocolate is not as smooth as this one.

After trying the melon and banana from those branches I forgot how good it tasted, but when I went back to MetroCity, the taste was totally different.
The chocolate drink there is much smoother and velvety. The chocolate taste is extremely creamy and the texture is a bit like McDonalds chocolate shake with a significant amount of blended fruit.
The chocolate tasted like blended chocolate ice-cream and NOT like chocolate powder milkshake.

If you do go want to try the choco series and happen to be in MetroCity, here is the place to try, do not bother with other HLS branches because the proportions they use in blending the drink may be different, also the price could be $32.

Strawberry tofu pudding @ Hui Lau Shan

Saw these cute jars of pudding with the supporting poster so decided to try it. There were four flavours:
Milk pudding with diced mango
Chocolate pudding with melon
Tofu strawberry pudding with strawberry
Steamed egg pudding with chocolate curls.

They all seemed good, except for the weird combination of chocolate pudding and melon.
I would have eaten them separately if I ordered it.

I do not like mango in general so I didnt get the milk pudding.
Overall, all the puddings were good except for the melon and mango.

Next time I am going to try the steamed egg with chocolate curls.

The strawberry pudding was quite good, the sweetness of the pudding was balanced by the sourness of the fresh strawberry.
It would be great if the pudding contained aloe vera pieces in it.
As well as strawberries it also had tofu taste.

" Love chocolate " fondue @ Hui Lau Shan

Ordered the chocolate fondue, which is practically as good as the fondue else where, the fruit could have been fresher and the fruit selection could have been more appropriate.
Usually it is berries, but I suppose in Hong Kong, I have to make to with the locally available fruit such a melon.
I consider melon as more of a fruit to go with savoury items such as Parma ham

The fondue set comprises of chocolate fondue, ice-cream, plate of cut fruit consisting of banana, kiwi, strawberries, honeydew melon and cantaloupe melon, finger biscuits and 3 marshmallows.

Although the waitress forgot to light up the candle beneath the chocolate fondue until I was halfway through eating it, I could have done without because the type of chocolate they used dosnt harden.

The fondue set costs $58 but there are vouchers to download on their website.

Apart from the chocolate set, I also got the curry mixture, which consists of fish balls, sliced stomach, squid tentacles and white carrot.
The curry was a little too spicy for me and there was a film of chilli oil at the top, which made it even spicy.
The sliced stomach was a little too soft, but the rest was ok.
