Good but had to eat with tacky disposable chopsticks @ 藏戶概念館

Food here is good, but service and chopsticks are not that good.

Firstly had to eat with disposable wooden chopsticks, ready to snap in half at any time.
How can a restaurant supply you with disposable chopsticks!!!!

One of the waitors stunk of BO too!

Anyway back to the food.
Whelks in sauce:a bowl of four whelks in sauce, I thought they would be chewy, but they turned out to be sweet and tender.
Mussels in miso and sake sauce:was impressed the mussels were fresh, not the frozen ones.
Sakura shrimp and veg tempura:was not the item I wanted to order, but it tasted ok,
Sakura shrimp and peach roll:This one tasted the best, ground raw shrimp inside with sweet peach slices inside.
The roll was coated in sakura shrimps, but the thing that let it down was that it didnt stay in one piece when you picked it up with chopsticks.
Overall the food was good, but had difficulty eating mussels and whelks with only a pair of wooden chopsticks and mini fork.

Dining under surveilance @ Kulako Japan Concept Food

Food was good, but under constant surveillance by the staff. From the picture you can see they have positioned themselves directly 90 degrees from our table.
Being a food host, I am used to eating in front of people, but not so for others.

Fish liver: I think this is not always available as it wasn’t on the menu last time, but went well with the vinegar sauce.

Baked rice with oysters: This was better than expected, the rice was softer than normal, but full of flavour with pieces of vegetable in it. The rice was topped with six oysters, all very creamy and moist despite being cooked by the oven.

The peach sushi rolls with Sakura shrimp was rather disappointing, the Sakura shrimp coating was more like shrimp crumbs, the ones I had previously, tiny shrimps could be seen coated on the rice.

Environment: There was a strong cigarette smell when we got up there.

Nice cosy restaurant @ La Dolce Italiana

This is probably the best restaurant in TKL, the decor is rather dreamy, it has a white tree with flashing blue LED lights, the interior is rather modern European.

This restaurant and the Design school opposite is quite surreal in the whole of TKL, the rest of the shops and eateries seem grey and gloomy.

Although it appears to be Italian, alot of the items are not authentically Italian, but serving steaks and fusion items.

I ordered two snack platters which was a choice of three items, a soup, and a drink for $48.

There were six choices to choose from, so for two snack platters, tried all the six dishes.

1) Ravioli in cheese sauce
2) Mussels in cream sauce
3) Dessert of the day
4) Portugese baked vegetables
5) Potato wedges in bolognaise
6) Napolean grilled ribs in vinegar

To soup was served first, a mushroom soup and a russian borst soup, I felt that the mushroom tasted better, it contained alot of finely chopped mushrooms.
Dessert of the day was one of those desserts from the range of desserts on their cabinet.

Basically the white sauce for Ravioli and the mussels were the same, the mussel were fresh and not the frozen ones.
The potato wedges were fried potato wedges topped with bolognaise sauce.
All the dishes tasted good, but I felt that 1 and 2 were the best.

London's Belgo versus Frites Belgium on Tap

I have always wanted to come here, but the locations were not that convenient.
I finally got motivated to come because so many new restaurants have opened here such as Greco Pi, which was the one I actually wanted to go, but since it was a cold day, I went to this place instead.

Ever since I had moule frites in London, I have always had a craving for them, I tried Belgo’s East in Hong Kong but it was not good.

The restaurant style at this place was similar to the Friar tuck style with high ceilings and wooden tables and benches.
They serve the same range of mussels as Belgo’s.
However it is slightly cheaper to eat in London, according to Belgo's online menu.
For a kilo of mussels in London it costs £12.95 and for a kilo of mussels here it costs $345 (approx £28).

The mussels were served in half or one kilo portions, so I ordered two half kilos for two different flavours.
I ordered the Laksa and the Hoegarden.

The mussels were fresh just like the London ones, however they were very hairy inside and salty.
The ones in London were not that salty compared to Hong Kong.
The mussels here were so salty that I felt my mouth and throat stung after eating them.
The Laksa one was the saltier of the two and it tasted like Green curry and nothing like Laksa.
The Hoegarden was not that strong, but it was still too salty.
They were both served with a slice of Rye bread and fries that were fried to perfection, and there was a pot of mayonnaise to go with the fries.

Overall this restaurant is OK, but I was not satisfied that I had to sit near another occupied table when the restaurant was 90% empty.
If the mussels were not so salty, then it would have been perfect.
