Lab Made's first anniversary

Lab Made Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Laboratory (Tai Hang)

It's been a year since Lab Made has opened........................

I havent been recently because the weather is too hot.

This time I went to try the new Birthday cake flavour.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Birthday Cake:

It didnt really say what flavour it was on their FB page, but when I got there I realised it was my favourite PANDAN!! way to go!!!!
As usual it is mixed with other goodies, it had crispy bits, M&Ms/Smarties, rainbow sprinkles and a star shaped shortbread on top.
I requested it without the sprinkles because I do not really like them.
Other than that, the pandan flavour was really nice and it tasted buttery too.

Maxim's mini chiffon series

Maxim's Cake Shop (Central)

Saw the poster for these new Mini Chiffon series which looked cute.

There are three flavours: chocolate, pandan and vanilla seed.
The pandan and chocolate are not new except for the vanilla seed.

They had Jasmine flavoured floral pudding which reminded me of the pudding I had at The Dining Room.

Mini chocolate chiffon:

The chocolate chiffon just tasted like the usual soft chocolate cakes sold at Maxims, it was not great but tasted better than the Vanilla seed chiffon.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mini vanilla seed chiffon:

The taste was disappointing, you could not taste any vanilla or any vanilla seeds in it at all.

Both these cakes were nicely presented but in terms of taste there was nothing special about it.

Heart shaped Pandan cake

Hoover Cake Shop (Kowloon City)

After a dinner gathering, someone brought out a Heart shaped Pandan cake for dessert.

The Heart shaped Pandan cake was from Kowloon City's Hoover cake shop.

I have tried their pandan cakes before so I expected this to taste good.

The cake has two layers, there is no filling in between so the top and bottom layer can be eaten separately.

The taste of this cake was delicious, it was soft and eggy just like the Chinese paper wrapped cakes with a strong hint of pandan.

Giant sized mexican bun @ BreadTalk

BreadTalk (Tseung Kwan O)

I like BreadTalk because every now and then they will have some interesting cakes and buns.

This time I saw this HUGE mexican bun, the diameter was bigger than a piece of normal sized square toast in the picture.

It was pandan and raisin flavoured so I got it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pandan raisin:
The surface of that bun was quite greasy and had a strong buttery smell.
It was green inside and the sweetness was mostly from the raisins and the crispy topping on top.
I thought it was fun to put bun against this big baby doll.

To be honest I can't stand baby dolls but this was an oversized one and its head is the size of a watermelon,
the doll beneath its hand is also an oversized doll too.
Its hand is slightly bigger than my clenched fist and its wrist is bigger than mine too.

Pandan chinese glutinous tea cake

Macau Soya Bean (Wan Chai)

Every now and then, this soya joint will have Pandan flavoured items.

This time they had Pandan flavoured glutinous tea cakes steamed on lotus leaves (cha gwores).
They were $4 each so I tried one.
There was not much Pandan taste, and it was really sweet a well.
It was filled with sesame, peanuts and yellow sugar.

The lotus leaf taste was much stronger than anything else because the tea cake absorbed the scent while it was being steamed.

Relatively good dimsim from a hot pot specialist

This hotpot specialists served hotpot by night and during the day they serve dimsum as well.

The decor is black and the restaurant is located upstairs which is why I never tried it because I was too lazy to go upstairs.
There were pictures outside showing the types of dimsum that they serve, I wanted to try the deep fried dumplings filled with green tea, but they did not have it.
The dimsums that they offer and the presentation of the dimsums remind me of the dimsum restaurant in Kowloon City.

The rice rolls were presented nicely and they were cut into smaller pieces to make sharing easier and the mini burgers were presented in dinky dishes as shown on the menu.
Inside the restaurant it was quite big with two sides to the restaurant, however the chairs and tables were slightly cramped and hard to get to your seat.

Steamed rice roll with beef and preserved egg:
This was slightly disappointing because the preserved egg was tasteless.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed rice roll with beancurd skin crackers and prawn:
The concept of this was good and it tasted good because the prawn gave the beancurd skin crackers some taste.
The beancurd skin crackers were still crispy and it was good that the oil they used was fresh and did not ruin their nice dish.
The rice roll on the outside held it together nicely and it tasted much nicer with beancurd skin which is a change from dough sticks in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed pork knuckle in red beancurd sauce:
The pork knuckles were too salty but I loved the strong red beancurd taste.
After I finished the knuckles I used the remaining sauce on the rice rolls and they tasted even nicer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beancurd roll in soup:
This was not as exciting as the rice roll because the soup was boring and I found it quite oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed pandan flavoured Malaysian cake:
Pandan cake has always been my favourite cake and as it was baked Malaysian style which tasted even better because the texture was better and it smelt really nice.
The sweetness was not too sweet so I ended up ordering other one.
