Japanese sets @ 大喬日本料理 Daikyo Japanese Cuisine

Ordered two sets, lots of sauces accompanying the dishes, and the food was good.
The only thing that let the meal down was the "large" clam soup as stated on the menu and pictured by others.

From pictures posted, the clam was nearly as big on the bowl, but it was tiny, after complaining, was given another bowl, not slightly bigger, but I believe so they can get a good review here.

Anyway the beef was good, I am not a beef eater, but the beef here is perfect, thinly sliced beef wrapped with spring onion inside.

Mountain yam with noodles @ 京笹居酒屋 Kyozasa Restaurant

Went here for Japanese because of the photos added by other OR reviewers looked good.

Although there has only been 4-5 reviews so far, the photos made it look good enough to try.

The only thing I didn’t like about this place, was the stench of cigarette smell when I walked in, and remained that way when we sat down.
Also there were plenty of tables, I couldn’t understand why we were placed in very closed proximity to the next table when the rest of the restaurant was empty.
I would have also preferred a bigger table, since the table we had was not that sufficient to place all of our food. I had to put the condiment tray on the table next to us to get more space.

I wasn’t impressed with the menu, there were no pictures at all, and the range was incomplete, I couldn’t find the food mentioned on the reviews, so I had to ask for it.
The menu was like an effortless printed list with Chinese and English from a word document and placed in those A4 plastic folders. I asked for pictures and was given a photo album, which was only for the highlighted or popular items.

Moving on to the food, ordered Bonito Tofu, clams in Sake, Rolled Beef with spring onions and garlic, Squid and fermented beans rice, and soba noodles with mountain yam.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bonito Tofu:Tasted better than imagined, the outside was crunchy, and the inside was soft and smooth.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Clams in Sake:Tasted really good, when the bowl arrived, you could smell the sake.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Rolled Beef:I have had better ones before, so this one was terrible, very fatty and the inner of the roll was not that well cooked.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Squid and fermented beans with rice:
Tasted a bit bland, but overall it all tasted good.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Soba noodles with Mountain Yam:
I asked for the cold one, but they suggested the soup one. I wish I had stayed with my choice, as the soup made the noodles too soft, and waters out the flavour. The mountain yam gets diffused in the soup.

White curry @ Satay King

Didn’t know what to have for dinner, so decided to eat at Satay King, the food here is always good if you pick the right stuff.
On the way there, the queue to the elevator was long, I was expecting it to be quite full on arrival, however on arrival, the restaurant was only 70% full, so got a seat without waiting.

As a basic choice, I always go for the white curry, tastes consistent every time, this time I chose the Japanese crunchy chicken to go with it, when it arrived it was a bit different to how I imagined it to be.
The Chinese description was “K Chui chicken”, so I thought it would be like chicken nuggets in steak form, but instead it was fried pieces of chicken, the chicken tasted better than I thought, it tasted like chicken dipped in red beancurd sauce and deep fried.
The white curry is always as good as usual, and it was good the sauce and chicken was separated.

The chicken curry set came with fried salt and pepper tofu and passion fruit tea.
The tofu was a bit soft and silky, I would have preferred the firmer type, and as for the drink it was quite good, not artificial fruit essence.

As for the other starters, one was a mistake, it was called Golden potato, which I should of guessed was sweet potato not lovely savoury potato.
Then also had the clams in black bean sauce, which was surprisingly good for a place like that, it was slightly gritty, otherwise it was good.

Finally the prawn cakes were a bit over fried, and a bit boring too, the prawn patty was tasteless.

Tasteless soup @ 開心麵皇 Happy Face Noodles

Came here because of the noodle variety and the good reviews about their non MSG soups served with noodles.

Anyway I picked whelks in black peppar sauce, clams in Sake sauce, Abalone in Oyster sauce, squid ink noodles with various of toppings.

Whelks in black pepper sauce: these were slightly over cooked, but reasonably clean, had bits of crushed black pepper corns, tasted ok, however the portion was abit small.

Clams in sake sauce:these tasted the best, strong sake sauce, the clams were slightly different in anatomy to other clams, but not sure in what way.

Abalone in oyster sauce:
tasted like canned abalone, but at that price what can you expect, and also it was sliced for easy eating.

Squid ink Noodles:Order two squid noodles, both in fish soup, however the one I had was so bland, it was like water.
Totally bland compared to the reviews saying how good it was.
As for my topping, i chose pigs blood, bamboo pith, and fresh yam.

For drinks, the red / green juice was ordered, there was a white one too.
Basically they were made from the relevant coloured fruits, it was quite a big glass for $12.

Blood clams @ 昌發泰國粉麵屋

The noodles were consistently good as before, so not worth mentioning this time round, although the soup still wasn’t as strong as the first time.

In addition to noodles also had stir-fried water spinach, blood clams, and satays.

The stir-fried spinach was nicely topped with garlic crumbs, and it tasted just right with chili, miso beans.
The satay was good especially the chicken, all had the smoked flavour packed in it from the grilling process. When we ordered we actually asked for beef and chicken, but they gave us pork instead of the beef.
Anyway the pork wasn’t that bad, at least it was pure lean meat.

Finally the blood clams were the best, previously tried them at the other Thai joint in Kowloon city, the ones here were cooked more thorough and cleaner too, the ones at the Thai BBQ were still alive and had some mud on the shells.

Clam sauce and abalone siao mai @ Star of Canton

Had my usual feed of dim sum again! Tried the new siu-mai with abalone, basically the siu-mai’s are the same as the usual ones except there is a small abalone on top.
The abalone was a bit tasteless and slightly over done, if they drizzled it with some sauce it might have improved it.

I also ordered fried fish balls with clam sauce, my first proper taste of real clam sauce.

I had previously tried clam sauce at Yue mic ka and Fishing village, but both were not fresh, and it just tasted metallic with orange peel, and also the clams were dry and chewy.

The clam sauce here was perfect, the clams are not fully cooked, the sauce is slightly mud grey/brown, with a taste of saltiness and fermented beancurd and orange peel.
