Novelty mini donuts @ Fresh Fresh

After trying their pandan cake at a recent promotional stall at Hollywood plaza, I really wanted to try their donuts, but the nearest branch was MK or the Kwai Fong side of town.

Since my friend lives in the KF area I was able to get her to get me some.

She got me a pack of three for $15.
These donuts were non fried which is healthier compared to the fried ones, however the icing was a bit too much.
The chocolate one tastes the best and the donut was soft and grease free.
The lilac one tasted a bit artificial.

Summer donuts @ Krispy Kreme

Got some takeaway donuts from Krispy Kreme, tried 3 of their new flavours out of the 6 choices of lime, mango, melon, pineapple, blueberry and cranberry.

Cranberry:
This was my favourite, since cranberry was sprinkled evenly over the icing, giving it some chew to the donut.

Blueberry:
Not bad, tasted of blueberries too.

Pineapple:
This was my least favorite, since the pineapple flavor was a bit artificial, if it had a little sourness in it, it would mimic the real pineapple taste. Also there was only one piece of the pineapple in the donut, not as good as the cranberry, because that was sprinkled all over.

Cute Bite sized donuts @ Jimcus

Came across this place whilst on the mini-bus, the shop stood out amongst everything on that dull street. Later I looked up the name on OpenRice to discover it was a donut shop.
After reading other peoples comments, it became one of my MUST-GO places to try, because the comments on it were good, mainly because it was not so sweet and they were bite sized, so I had try it. Generally the pictures were fascinating, the donut flavours, appearance etc.

On arriving, there were quite a few customers there, so I took a look at the menu, there were two main types of donuts, the marshmallow ones, and the plain ones.

The marshmallow ones were donuts topped with grilled marshmallows, and the plain ones were just plain sugar ones, both types could be flavoured with your choice of flavour. The staff there told me that the flavoured ones were coated in the relevant flavours, so in my mind, the flavours would taste artificial rather than fresh fruit.

Anyway, I ordered the marshmallow ones, one of each flavour, same with the plain ones.

After trying them, the texture of the donut was denser dough than the American ones, but still soft enough to be a donut, like Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s.
Personally I like the plain ones, plain marshmallow, or the common flavours, such as chocolate, cinnamon because the rest of the fruity flavours taste artificial, more of a scent, which leaves you the strong artificial after taste in your mouth.

All the orders there are freshly done so expect to wait a bit for your order.

I would recommend two ways of eating the marshmallow ones, fresh and after a few hours.
When it’s fresh, the donut is nice warm and soft, and the marshmallow is like fluffy meringue cream topping, then if you try it after a few hours, you can get a different texture, the marshmallow is chewy, and the dough is slightly firmer, and you can taste the chewyness of the marshmallow and the wholesomeness of the donut.

Overall the size of the donut is really good, very small, and lots of flavour to choose from, even though the regular flavours are the best, and the marshmallow. For the fruity ones, I would prefer dried fruit sprinkled on it rather than the powdered flavours.

For the shop décor, it was very fancy, a display cabinet of the donuts, the little cubicles of boxes of different flavours. Although the shop was trying to portray London, I don’t know why, but it felt like metro France.

Packaging wise, the logo and everything was OK, but the big bag looked more like a clothes bag, and the bag is much bigger than the contents, if they designed a box, it would be much more elegant and practical.

Greasy donut @ Ali-Oli Bakery Cafe

Previously had great bakeries from here, however today it wasnt that good.

When I was getting the donuts from the tray I was going to get the Jam donut and the Custard one, however, there was lots of oil underneath them both.

Initially I thought it was the tray, so I just got the custard one incase both were greasy.

When I got home, the paper bag confirmed how greasy it was.

It was so oily I only took a bite and threw it away.

Blue iced donuts @ ROCCA Bakery

Last time I wanted to get the mini ring donuts, but they didn't have them.

This time they had iced ring donuts in pretty colours, blue, pink, brown and white with rainbow sprinkles.

Pity I didn’t take a picture, because the price label said $3, which is about right for a tiny donut of that size.

However when I was at the till, the total came to $10 for two donuts, which is slightly expensive considering I got mini muffins at that size for $3.5 at Rocca last time.

It seems they have handwriting issue because last time the 3.5 was written to look like 3.0, this time the $3 they claimed to be $5.

Anyway I should have taken a picture then, but I asked them if the donuts were $3 or $5 when I paid,
they removed the label and replaced it with a bold written $5, so it must have been misleading if they had to take that course of action.

Perhaps printed price labels next time would help?

The blue donut was interesting, I asked what flavour it was, and the baker told me it was CHOCOLATE, very interesting, blue coloured chocolate, however I couldn’t really taste any chocolate, it just tasted like crunchy icing sugar to me.

Many layered bread @ Cafe Balencia

Last time wanted to get this bread here, but I didnt realise it was not part of the restaurant.

Anyway, the bread looks similar to the one at bologne, especially the crust.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It is natrually sweet and tastes better after toasting. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The chocolate and cinammon toast tasted too sweet, but the cinammon powder was very strong. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The mochi donuts had two flavours: custard and chocolate.
The custard one tasted better and not too sweet.
The chocolate was one too strong.
Basically it was a mochi fried like a donut. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
