Chips from Ocean Fish Bar near Stepney Green

Went here randomly as it was near my uni.
The smell in the shop was nice so decided to try their chips.
However the chips didn't look nice because they were brown but they were actually good as in not greasy.
It was nice how they also had an extra sheet of real newspaper as well to give it that chippy touch.

Rooster Chicken & Fish Purley [Review]

I love fried chicken shops so whenever there is one I have not been to, I will definitely try their fried chicken.
Who knew that Rooster Chicken & Fish would be serving seriously good Fish and Chips which beats this other fish and chip shop nearby and even my locals.
On my first few visits, I only had fried chicken but one day I decided to be brave and try the fish and chips which turned out to be amazing.
As well as my favourite place, this is another place I go regularly because it is easy to travel to.
I was gobsmacked they serve real chippy chips along with their normal chips for the chicken.
The chips are soft and fluffy in the middle and the fish comes with skin.
You won't feel bloated after having it and  the prices are so affordable.

Lamb bites (Battered doner pieces) from Maria’s Fish & Kebabs

When I heard about these lamb bites I had to try them myself as this could be the first place serving them as I haven't seen them ever.
Before I went, I had in mind thin doner slices or slivers in batter but it turned out to be doner chunks in batter.
Overall they were nice doused in vinegar.
They reminded me of spam fritters which is similar as they are both made of reformed and processed meats.
I also regretted not trying a cod bite as it was only 99p each.
The chips were ok but on the greasy side.

Chips at Couldsdon family Fish & Chicken

As I was in the area, I decided to give this place a go.
Their chips were crispy chips with a fluffy centre.
I did not regret trying chips from here.
The chips were very tasty in the sense that you can really taste the potatoes.
The salt took the chips to the next level because it was like eating ready salted crisps in the form of chips however more vinegar was needed.
Normally crispy chips can be a bit dry but they were not and they remained crispy in the box as they were not eaten imediately after purchase.

Chips at Hobsons in Soho

I am always in the area so pass by Hobsons quite a lot but never tried it.
Saw people outside eating fish and chips which looked promising as the chips were perfectly golden in colour so I went in for some chips.
Unfortunately, my batch of chips were too dark and the texture was too dry for my liking.
The fish menu was rather limited as it didn't have huss or haddock and stuff like that.

Pea Fritter at Skippers

Skippers is just another chippy but what drew me there was the pea fritter and the menu offerings like skate.
I believe that the pea fritter has lost its popularity through the years as it is not on the menu like it used to be.
Overall, I liked the cone of chips because it holds the vinegar and prevents it from seeping and the pea fritter was good however it would taste even better as a breakfast item with a sunny fried egg.

Pie Mash and chippy Chips at Something Fishy

I was on another pie mash quest this weekend and I had two choices in mind. Brook's in Dagenham or Something Fishy in Lewisham.
Something Fishy is actually a fish and chip shop that makes their own pie mash as well.
I decided to go to Something Fishy as I fancied some chips.
You cannot miss this restaurant on the high street because their signs and decor are loud and clear.
I loved the 1970s fixed seats and tables which give it a nice nostalgic touch and the fact that this place has been here for years.
Moving on to the food, I felt that the beef filling was rather bland and the pastry was underbaked.
The liquor was also bland with the usual cornstarch consistency.
Adding pepper and vinegar helped a bit but not much.
The chips on the other hand were amazing but when I saw fresh batch going in I felt the fresh blonde batch would have fared better being piping hot and freshly fried.
Overall, I would give 10/10 for the chips buts there was a oil aftertaste to it but compromised with sauces.
I managed to try chips with liquor which is something I have always wanted to try from BJ's pie mash in East Ham but everytime I go it is always sold out.
They use JJ Foodservice sauces so I got to try all the sauces in the range.
The tomato ketchup and chilli sauce were really good especially the tomato ketchup which is nice and tangy.
The burger sauce was not to my liking as I found it too sweet.

Cheeky Fish now open in South Croydon

Cheeky Fish is a new fish and chip shop that opened a few months ago by the owners of AYAT Restaurant opposite.
When they first opened, the menu was very different and fancy made for the city.
Like all new restaurants who go through teething stages, they will change the menu accordingly to demand and now it is more down to earth.
I stopped by for the scampi and chips which were reasonably priced.
The scampi tasted a bit like fish fingers but on the sweet side.
Same with the potato variety they use, it was also on the sweet side.
Will try their pies next.
