Home-made Cuisine and homely portions @ 愛吃家常便飯

Wanted to try this place because of the product pictures, they had a set dinner but I did not want to try it because there were other items I wanted to try.
The lotus patties were slightly different from what I expected they were meat patty on top of a sliced lotus root, usually they are both chopped up and fried.

I wanted to find out more about the Portuguese patty 葡式窩餅釀肉鬆 because obviously I do not know what a 窩餅 is so I asked what it was, she asked me if I knew what a 窩餅 was.
If I knew what that was, then I would obviously guessed it was a 窩餅 stuffed with minced pork as stated on the menu.
But I didn’t know so she said it is similar to a 窩 baa whatever that is.

Anyway ordered:
Stir fried prawns infused with healthy green tea Japanese wasabi and Tender duck stew sauteed with preserved red bean curd, hoi sin sauce and broccoli floret topped with beer

Tender duck stew sauteed with preserved red bean curd, hoi sin sauce and broccoli florets topped with beer This was the best tasting dish because it had my favourite red bean curd flavouring and the beer that was poured in was dark black.
They chose this beer because it has a strong malt taste that comes out.
It sounded like "Bore DAh something" in Chinese so I am guessing they mean BODDINGTONS??
The broccoli was eaten last after it soaked up all the sauce and it was delicious.
The duck was also good but there were too many brittle bones.

南乳芥蘭啤酒炆鴨  $78

綠茶青芥末炒蝦仁  $80

The English was slightly different to the Chinese description, the Chinese description mentioned mint leaves but the deep fried leaves tasted nothing like mint, anyway they tasted like deep fried spinach.
Later asked the staff and they said it was chuen jiu leaves which I have no idea what they were.
The wasabi taste was strong but I could not taste any green tea or see any green tea leaves, perhaps they used a green tea powder.
The sugar snap peas were fresh and destringed.
I felt that this dish was a modernised version of the Hangzhou prawns cooked with Loongjeng tealeaves.

秘製士多啤梨醬炸魚塊  $70
Crispy deep fry fish served with special strawberry sauce
However after looking at the real dish from Open Rice, the strawberry sauce looked like pink salad cream.

Prime Shrimp burger @ Triple O's Hong Kong

Admittedly HKD$52 is quite expensive for a burger especially in a fast food chain where the seating is not intended for a long stay.
Anyway I love trying prawn burgers so I decided to try it.
The Prawn burger I had recently was at Bowl burger which was also quite expensive, however it tasted really similar to the Prawn and sesame toasts that you get at Chinese restaurants overseas!!

Anyway, the presentation of this one on the poster was really similar to the fish burger with a piece of lemon.
The prawn patty was quite thin but there were quite a few whole pieces of prawn in it.

The burger was a heavily toasted soft bun that went quite flaky after toasting, one side of the bun was slightly burnt.
The bun was smothered with tartar sauce and lettuce slapped on.
After adding the lemon it tasted really nice and I also added extra white vinegar on it too.

When quality does not match up to its price @

I was really excited with this place because there are not many places for Japanese inspired desserts. Chose the noodles and the Uji Matcha set so that I could still have room for dessert.
I did not look at the menu description for the cold noodles when I ordered, I just assumed it was quail eggs and green tea noodles because I like the idea of quail eggs, but they said the quail eggs have been replaced by a poached egg, so I ended up ordering the Green tea noodles with seafood in soup.
Well anyway, after I ordered I looked at the menu and indeed the product picture contradicts with the description!!!
!!!Spot the contradiction!!!
!!!Spot the contradiction!!!

Why won't they reprint the menu or cover the photo if it does not match the description??
While looking at the product shots for the soft-serve green tea ice-cream I found a variation in colour when clearly it was the same ice-cream!
The ice-cream on the left is a lighter colour than the one on the right!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Green tea noodles with seafood in soup Since the cold noodles I wanted came with poached egg and not quail eggs I changed my order to this.
It was quite strange because the green tea noodles tasted like the quick cook instant macaroni.
The seafood was just quick frozen seafood.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Uji Matcha set This looked quite different to the product shot. The prawn was nice and big but very disappointing because there was no prawn taste let alone green tea taste!!!
What a waste of a big prawn!! Overall the rest of the items in the set were tasteless such as the scallop, noodles and pickles.
Lastly the green tea pudding was the only strongest tasting dessert when I compared it with the one I left room for.
The green tea taste was interesting it was not as grassy as the usual green tea and it was aromatic.
However if you have tried this perfume called Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden, it smells exactly like that. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
After finishing the food, made the wrongest decision to ask them to wipe the table because the cloth stank and made the table smell, it was so strong that the stench was strong that when my final dessert came it was tasteless.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Supreme soft ice-cream, tofu pudding and dumplings When it arrived, my table was still stinking after it had been wiped, but it was a bowl of tofu pudding topped with soft serve green tea icecream, tri coloured dumplings, and green tea pudding cubes.
The green tea tofu faintly tasted of green tea and was quite nice, and the cubes of green tea were nice but again the green tea was really faint.
As for the tri-coloured dumplings they all tasted the same so it was just food colouring and no flavouring, the taste was so floury.
The ice-cream was really creamy but lacked green tea taste!
The presentation of the dessert looked quite artificial and the green tea soft serve was a darker colour than its product shot featured above.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Overall the food here does not match its price tags.
There are quite a few drinks similar to SinMei but cost more here, I am sure people would opt to go to SinMei!
Anyway, they also have a really expensive giangantic dessert for 4-6 people @ $238!!
Mega dessert for 4-6 ppl @$238
Mega dessert for 4-6 ppl @$238

But I suppose if you are not concerned about food quality, this place would be a good hangout for drinks.
