Creative light and healthy toasts at Café O

Every time I walked past I was tempted by these toasts:
apple butter, cheddar and turkey
green peas and mint on salted yoghurt
prawn and salsa verde sweetcorn puree
pear and cinnamon nutella

That day I was still hungry after lunch so went in to try them.
Before I ordered I asked if they were big and they said they were quite small so I decided to order two different ones.

I was shocked when they arrived because there were two of each.

The waitress reassured me that it was right there were two pieces per portion so I guess I shouldn't complain.
According to the menu, it is $48/pc so my order should look like this!

Green peas and mint on salted yoghurt

It was cream cheese and not sour yoghurt but it was still good with thick starchy peas on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawns and sweetcorn:

The prawns were nice and springy but the sweetcorn was too artificially sweet.

It can't get any more RAW than this at Mana! Raw

Discovered this place after dining at the Butchers Club.

They offer lots of raw juices so tried the CHI.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chi:

This was a blend of red cabbage, cauliflower, kale and carrots

It had a strong grassy taste with a bitter tone to it.

Vegetarian Harvest

Harvester in the UK is a steak house, in Hong Kong it is a vegetarian restaurant!

I have always wanted to try this place but the place deters me from coming because it is really mysterious and you can’t see inside.

I know you can go in and have a look but I don’t liking going into places and saying the food is not right and leaving hence the reason I mainly dine in restaurants accessible on the street level.

Before this visit, I prepared myself mentally that I was going here because all vegetarian places have a different vibe, which I can’t explain.
Inside it was silent but it felt intense. I love silence but this place was a bit different, again it feels like your being watched or perhaps the regulars see a fresh face so they like to check them out.

The food is collected from the heated trays and one of the signs is quite cute, remain silent when getting your food to prevent your saliva droplets contaminating food when you talk.

I didn't get much but it was quite expensive at $45 because you pay by weight.

The food was ok, my favourite was the bittermelon in black bean sauce, it was slightly bitter with a strong black bean taste.

They also have rice, congee and soup.
The soup was the best because it had a earthy mushroom taste.

Healthy cafe at The Kinnet

This cafe is similar to nood food because they serve healthy foods and they are attached to a fitness centre.

Went there for the quinoa sweet corn cakes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Quinoa Sweet corn cakes:

These corn cakes reminded me of falafel because of the taste and the dips that it came with.
However there was no sweetcorn in them so why are they called corn cakes??
The three dips that came with it were delicious especially the avocado and salsa.
As for the corn cakes, they just tasted like mashed potato with crispy quinoa in it.

Brunches at Crafty Cow!!

The brunch hours here are good because it goes on until 4:30 so 2pm is still not too late to get out of bed!
Anyway, they brunch is priced at $148 per person with a drink.

I went to Crafty cow for brunch because of the potato rosti and I love potato rostis.

Sadly, they didn't have potato rosti that day so I was served salad.

Apart from that minor glitch everything else was good!
Luckily I sat by the bar because I could see what the brunches looked like.
Here was the Big ass truffle grilled cheese and B.E.L.T being served.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beetroot juice:
It was freshly pressed beetroot juice so the taste was natural with bits of beetroot in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
smokey heart Reuben:
This was thin slices of cow's heart topped with cheese and pickle.
It was grilled to perfection and the cheese was still stringy.
The cow's heart tasted like beef pastrami and it was complemented nicely with the crunchy pickle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wagyu steak salad:

The beef was soft, sweet and juicy which went well with the crisp salad leaves and delicious soft tasty potatoes.

Brunch at Americanos

Since my last visit, there are new breakfast items so I went here for brunch.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced tea:

It was iced earl grey so I really liked it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Huevos Americanos:
The taco wraps were not soft enough but the runny egg yolk and delicious toppings made up for it and the bacon was the best because it was crispy and not too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
breakfast burrito:
The breakfast burrito was really tasty because it was loaded with cheese, egg, black beans and guacamole.

Having tea in the green field

This cafe is on the corner but I never had a chance to try it because it is small and often full.
You will never miss it because the green at the top is faded by the sun and the inside looks very old as it were not open.

Anyway, finally tried it one afternoon and had the green tea with roasted rice which was brewed with a tea bag.
There were light lunches available but I already had lunch.

The green tea taste was rather light.

Although it wasn't impressive, I have finally tried this place and there was a nice view of Central where you can see Queen's Road and Wellington Street.

Kale the new health hero

For those of you that are not familiar with KALE, Kale is a vegetable with frilly leaves that is high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, and rich in calcium. Kale is a source of two carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin.

It contains sulforaphane (particularly when chopped or minced), a chemical with potent anti-cancer properties.
Kale is said to boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells as well as lowering cholesterol and decrease absorption of dietary fat.[citation needed]

Quoted from Wiki, so if that's all true, then KALE is a real hero for our health.

Anyway, I kept seeing these delicious sliders on Facebook and salads from KALE so I was really excited for it to open. They are really creative because they have so many creations with kale such as kale biscotti, kale granola bars etc.
When it finally opened I went there.

It is on the 13th Floor of Cheung's building near the Sheung Wan MTR.
When you enter the place, you are greeted with a lovely seaview and buildings nearby.

The stools are stylish because they look like unicycles.

The menu was simple and clear with a choice of sliders, dips, fries and drinks.

I went for the sliders, fries with a dip, wheatgrass shot and a drink.
It was really good that everything had Kale in it from fresh kale leaves to kale and pesto sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sliders $28 each:
I chose three sliders: chicken, tofu and falafel.

 Falafel slider:
The falafel slider was interesting because the falafel patty was moist and soft flavoured by lovely spices. There was pesto and kale sauce on top which gave it an amazing flavour.

Chicken Slider:
The chicken slider was colourful and delicious topped with fresh kale and tomato and dressed with creamy avomayo sauce which was avocado and apple cider vinegar.

Tofu Slider:
The tofu slider was my favourite because the piece of tofu was huge and tasty with cucumber, kale and tomato.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries $35:

This was a mix of sweet potato and potatoes which were sweet and delicious that were garnished it with fried sweet potato skin on top for more flavour and a bed of kale.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Avocado hummus $25:
The avocado hummus was divine because the avocado gives it that smooth texture blended with chickpeas.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
wheatgrass shot $38:
The wheatgrass shot was surprisingly good because I was expecting it to taste grassy but it's naturally sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Loco $45:
A blend of young coconut, tahini, dates and avocado
I really liked this because it had my favourite young coconut and avocado.
It was sweet, thick and delicious with pieces of young coconut in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Coming back soon for more sliders and drinks.
