[聯盛宴 Federal Banquet] I love the uniform

Surprised that there are no comments here but this restaurant used to be on the top floor accessed by escalators.
The new place is slightly smaller than the old place.
The food here is OK and the uniform is quite nice because I like red tartans.

The manager Jxxxx wears a light turquoise tartan suit which makes him stick out from the crowd.

As usual, you have to rinse the bowls before you eat and the rinse bowl looks a bit like a piss bowl because of the shape LOL!

The soup and suckling pig were good.

The chicken brain was quite small with less folds and complexity compared to the human brain.
It tasted fishy and Goose brains tastes much better.
I want to try the pig's brain next time LOL but it was sold out when I attempted to try it in MACAU!

Cute flashing red light bulbs stabbed right in the eye sockets!

[稻香 Tao Heung] Ruined by the oil and pork

Went here because the locals wanted Chinese food.
Ordered the lobster and e-fu noodles which looked good when it came and the lobster actually had lobster meat unlike some places you get dehydrated lobsters.
Unfortunately, the oil was old hence it killed the lobster, the taste of the oil was stronger than the fresh lobster taste.

The other dish we had was the spinach with salted egg and century egg which doesn’t normally contain pork but here they decided to throw it in as a bonus but the pork wasn’t fresh so it ruined this delicious dish with a bad pork flavour.

The spare ribs were just bones and fat and the other vegetable dish was ok but it was weird that it was garnished with mushroom slices.
The waiters were quite nice but also annoying at the same time because they have a quota to meet hence they keep pestering you to order more stuff like rice and desserts.

[Das Gute] Mini custard mochi bread

I was captivated by these mini custard mochis which looked like baby donuts dusted in icing powder but when I got closer it was actually mochi.

They cost $4.5 each or $17 for 3 which is quite pricey considering they are just a small bite.
Anyway, I got one because I wasn’t sure if they were delicious or not.

The custard mochi was quite nice because the mochi is not as oily as donut but the texture is a bit like chewy donut and the filling was ok, but the custard had a sickly white chocolate/condensed milk taste.

[Good BBQ] Not just Chinese roast

Li Yuen Street East is becoming a popular street for modern eateries hidden behind the market stalls.
There is GOOD BBQ which is a modern roast shop that has other dishes as well as roast with an EXCELLENT English menu because it states clearly that you can choose lean or fatty roast pork.

The food boxes really appealed to me because they were modern and chic.

Sadly, the slow roasted pork was sold out so I got the sides which were just as good.
Ended up getting two tubs of roasted okra with spices in Szechuan chili oil.
It was delicious okra in a sweet vinegary sauce with crispy roasted coriander seeds in it.

Luckily, it wasn't very spicy.

[Louis' Steak House] Last dinner at this steak house

Louis' Steak House is a legend in Wan Chai which has been here for decades.

I tried them before because of the fish maw and I am here again because they will be moving.
It is located in the Malaysia building which is evidently old because there is an unpleasant smell at the lobby area that was there on the first visit and still there now.
This restaurant is rather interesting because the Chinese run it and they serve proper western dishes apart from the Fish Maw.
The restaurant ambiance takes you back in time and the decor reminds of this steak house called Beefeater in the UK.
The staff looked like they’ve work there all their life and most of them are senior citizens.
I was very impressed by their diverse menu that ranges from Asparagus with hollandaise sauce to Crepes Suzette.
The table was laid with red and white chequered tablecloth, formal cutlery, flowers and a small candlelight.

Caesar salad:

The salad was not that crisp but I liked the dressing because there was some mustard in it.

French oysters 1865:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fish maw steak:

After reading Jason’s review, I used the bread on the sticky fish maw sauce, and it was wonderful.
The fish maw itself was quite thick and gelatinous flavoured by the rich gravy.
Comparing it to my review, the fish maw was bigger this time and the sizes that people get are quite random.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fresh crabmeat mushroom soup au Gratin:

This was baked, so it was very hot with melted cheese on top.
The crabmeat was nice and fresh, but the soup was quite milky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
For steaks, we had the mini tomahawk which is slightly smaller than the usual tomahawk, it came with creamy potatoes and salad.

After adding salt, it made the beef much nicer.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Apple pie:

It looked like an ordinary apple pie, but the pastry was so light, buttery and crumbly.
I think it’s the best pie pastry I have had in Hong Kong so far.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Pancakes with liquor:

A slightly soggy pancake drenched in strong liquor and orange juice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

I look forward to their new restaurant because the style is going to be different and not as nostalgic as this.

[永康美食] Oily Chinese Crueller

Only came here unwillingly because the group wanted congee.
The price is reasonably cheap for Sai Kung.
The congee wasn't my cup of tea because I found it too creamy and the Chinese cruellers were so oily that my hands ended up too oily to take a photo of them.

[Hui Lau Shan] Possibly a belated Halloween Dessert?

Went here because of the new dessert series.

Tried the pistachio and purple sweet potato soup and the other one.
The pistachio was too sweet and sickly with a strong coconut taste which overpowered the pistachio.

The pistachio at Lan Chee Koon and Hoi Kee tastes better.
The black glutinous rice and taro paste looked like this.

There were two waitresses, the one at the till was rude because she gave the change back in a rude manner.
