Okra soup at African Delicacy Restaurant

After trying the Swallow meal and delicious Moi Moi, I was back for the Okra soup which cost £7.
The reason I like okra soup is because it is like a African version of Louisana gumbo soup with okra, fish, beef and cows foot.
There are many different versions of okra soup because some put fresh crabs, fresh prawns, tripe and whatever they fancy.
Since there was some roast chicken and rice at home, I requested for plain Okra soup without the pounded yam.
The okro soup I had was a full portion and freshly made which lasted for so many meals.
It was blended finely hence the reason you can't see the okra seeds.
Due to its signature slimey nature, I think the Japanese would love plain okra soup which is similar to freshly ground yam, natto beans and sliced okra served with sushi rice in a donburi.
My first impressions for ADR's okra soup was the lovely lightness and you could smell the okra followed by a mild fiery kick.
It was perfect that it was not too salty.
So to accompany my okra soup, I had it with roast chicken and rice so the okra acted like gravy hence the reason I am going to buy some chips later so it will be like okra gravy and chips.
As well as a tasty dish, I'm beginning to think that okra soup would be a good side dish for the elderly who require food thickeners to help them swallow their food.
Will be revisiting ADR again for something new.

snake and mongoose

Snake & Mongoose is a unique Grill Bar situated in the heart of Croydon. This fantastic venue takes its influences from Jamaican and British roots which are evident in the décor and the atmosphere when you visit. The décor is based around Early West Indian memorabilia which has historical links to The Windrush generation.

The aim at Snake & Mongoose is to promote a healthy lifestyle using products that we source locally from within the community; therefore they are also supporting small local businesses at the same time. Authenticity is the ethos by how they work, they have a beautiful roof terrace where they grow fresh herbs which they use in their delicious foods and beverages.
Their chicken is grilled/steamed on a jerk grill which is also situated on the roof terrace which the customers love.

Phoebes Delight Okro Soup

After trying African Delicacy nearby for the Swallow meal, I decided to try Okro soup by Phoebes Delight which was sold at Papa Alfie's.
The price of okra soup has gone up from £8 to £9.
Before the okra soup used to be £9 with pounded yam but now it is £9 for just the soup.
You will find okro soup, rice and peas etc in the chilled cabinet by Phoebes Delights.
The okro soup I tried was really nice because it was like a Nigerian version of Louisana gumbo soup with okra, fish, beef and cows foot.
There are many different versions of okra soup because some put fresh crabs, fresh prawns, tripe and whatever they fancy.
Phoebes okro soup was huge so I had it over three meals with rice and chips.
The soup was loaded with fish (possibly sardine), cows foot and even beef short rib so they were really generous on the ingredients.
Although the ingredients say red snapper but the fish looked more like Sardine or Mackerel because the shape of red snapper is wider and not as narrow as Sardine/Mackerel but it definitely tasted like sardine.
I even found whole scotch bonnet pepper inside.
Overall, highly recommended because I love okra and anything that is slimey!!
