A stylish way to spend Happy Hour

After trying the Singmalay Tea treats, I almost missed a stylish Happy Hour if I didn't see this glam poster on the way out.

I have to admit, I was lured back by the digital promotion near the concierge.
At the Lobby Bar Counter, there were these beautiful ceramic Qipao figurine jars.
There are four signature cocktails to wow you!!
I tried the Beer Milkshake while my friend had the China Lady:
The Beer Milkshake was a fun concoction of Chocolate Ice Cream, Porter, Milk, cream, chocolate sauce and topped with an Oreo.
The China lady was very feminine and Oriental with Chinese liquers like Shochu, Plum Wine, Lemon Juice, Maple syrup, Pasteurized Egg White and and Cucumber.

I definitely enjoyed my girly time here and can't wait to come back to try the Pina-Kale Ada and Singapore Sling!!

Louis XIII Cognac x [100 Years] by Pharrell Williams

On November 13th, LOUIS XIII Cognac premiered "100 Years", A Song We’ll Hear In A Century, But Only #IfWeCare About The Planet. "100 Years" is a first-of-its-kind musical composition created by Pharrell Williams and not set to be publicly released until the year 2117. LOUIS XIII and Pharrell's partnership is the result of a mutual dedication to the environment and an appreciation for its fragility.

This artistic project expresses the delicate relationship between nature and time, and the long-lasting effects humans have on their environment. LOUIS XIII is familiar with those effects, as it must always think a century ahead: each decanter of LOUIS XIII Cognac represents the life achievement of generations of Cellar Masters.

Pharrell’s exclusive track is engraved on a unique clay record made from the rich soil of Cognac, France. It is being kept in one of LOUIS XIII’s cellars in a custom, state-of-the-art safe. The safe has no code and no key, as it will unlock automatically in November 2117. But it is also water-soluble, which means the world’s only copy of “100 Years” will be destroyed if our neglect for the earth leads water levels to rise up.

I was really honored to attend this event witness Vincent J. Géré, Louis XIII Asia Pacific Director, unveil the unique safe storing Pharrell’s "100 years" exclusively displayed at this event.

Mr Géré also explained the delicate relationship between LOUIS XIII and Time, and how each decanter of LOUIS XIII represents the life achievement of generations of cellar masters.

I tried the prestige LOUIS XIII and can't agree more with Mr Géré, that the Cognac is like walking into a big Cathedral, you cannot see everything in one go, but you see and taste more after taking more sips.

Playful Fish-shaped soy sauce bottle

Tsuru in Central is dedicated to Japanese-style cocktails, prepared by Japanese mixologist Katsuhisa Hirakawa.

Cocktails at Tsuru are made with a number of alcoholic beverages imported from Japan, including sake, vermouth, spirit, gin, liqueur and whiskey as well as other ingredients, such as Japanese citrus fruits, Sudachi and Hyuganatsu, to bring upon the original Japanese aroma. In addition to the massive cocktail selection, Japanese snacks, skewers and main dishes are served at Tsuru to deliver customers a relaxing Japanese drinking and dining experience.

Celebrating the arrival of the summer season, customers will be delighted by the brand new seasonal Japanese cocktails and sangrias available from now until 30th October. Revolving around 3 distinct themes – “ELEGANT”, “SHARING” and “PLAYFUL”, the 3 different levels of experiences to enjoy the new cocktails and sangrias should not be missed!

Japanese Wine Sangria ($430/500ml, portion for 2-3 persons)

Fish-shaped soy sauce bottle has been one of the quintessential items when enjoying sushi all around the world. As a tribute to the iconic bottle, this Japanese wine sangria is a concoction of Japanese red wine, Zuisen Red Tea Liqueur and Japanese citrus fruits- Sudachi imported from Japan and the Miyazaki Prefecture special Hyuganatsu. This sangria comes with a playful twist as it is served in a super-sized fish-shaped bottle.
+++++++++
Sakura Mojito ($120):
Unlike the usual preparation of mojito, where it is mixed with syrup, the Sakura Mojito at Tsuru uses sugar Shōchū (SHIMAnoNAPOLEON) from Amami Ōshima as a substitute. The mojito is then added with Dover Sakura Liqueur and further upgraded with Japanese citrus fruits - Sudachi imported from Japan and the Miyazaki Prefecture special Hyuganatsu. Garnished with Japanese edible sakura flowers, the sensational drink is modified with a hint of the quaintness and elegance of Japanese culture.

++++++++
WA Negroni ($130):
Vermouth and gin are traditionally the two main ingredients of Negroni. WA Negroni at Tsuru, however, is a mixture of Campari and a vermouth made with a Japanese gin (Wa Bi Gi) and the Asahi Yama Senjuhai Sake from Niigata.
++++++++++
Shiso Mariage ($120):
Made with the Asahi Yama Senjuhai Sake from Niigata, Dover Shiso Liqueur, cranberry juice and fresh lemon juice, the Shiso Mariage cocktail spots a classy shade of red with a refreshing sweetness.

Dr. Fern's Gin Parlour

While death and being sick in Hong Kong is a taboo, Dr. Fern's Gin Parlour is breaking this taboo at the Landmark.
Not familiar to HKers, I found the entrance very comforting as it was very similar to the Doctors place where I went as a child because I come from a Victorian seaside town.
There are two doors, both have frosted wired glass panes. One says waiting room while the other is the Doctors room.
I doubt HKers could relate to the surroundings but it is definitely a brilliant hideout with a good variety of gins.
Inside you will find old fashioned furniture and decor which transport you back to the Victorian era.

I was there for coffee and I have to admit the coffee was really good as a non coffee drinker because it was very aromatic, the temperature was just right and there was no sour aftertaste.

The receipt could do with more humour though with diagnosis and prescriptions added to it and for fun you can try submitting it to your company account dept and see if they fall for it!

What's your cocktail portrait?

I don't normally drink but I was captivated by their cocktail portrait because it sounded interesting.

At first I thought it was gimmick and some sort of art but it turns out to be a personalized cocktail to suit your palate.

Before they make you the drink, you are given some carbonated water to cleanse your palate which I thought was brilliant.

You are then given a form to tick so that the cocktail stylist can get an idea of the sort of drink you are looking for.

Although mine was a mocktail, I loved the taste, it was wonderful and just how I liked it because it had notes of sweet strawberry and refreshing lime which were the sours that I was looking for.
There was also cream, fig and a hint of chili to smooth it out with some excitement.

This was the drink that my friend was impressed with as well which had notes of pineapple, cream, banana and passionfruit.

As well as the drinks, the bar was lovely and cozy too!

Rum and raisin gelato at Dolci 2/3

To me Icecream and desserts are not a necessities but when you come across good ones they become addictive.

I suddenly had a craving for the pistachio gelato but when I got to the counter I discovered the rum and raisin which was new so had that instead.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
rum and raisin gelato:

I loved it because the gelato was soft and the texture of the raisins were soft and sweet like sultanas which popped with sweetness while the gelato was infused with a mild rum flavoring.

Other gelato favourites:
Red rice and coconut, pistachio and Earl Grey.

Beer jelly for your beer belly!

I got this dessert because it looked like a glass of beer with foam on top.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beer jelly:

Surprisingly, it actually had beer in it so they should warn people that it contains alcohol or 18+.
The foam layer on the top which I thought was going to taste sweet was not sweet!
It was whipped egg white and gelatin with a strong beer taste!!

Then beneath that layer was a beer jelly which had a strong beer taste with a hint of sweetness.

After a while, you can feel yourself getting a bit tipsy!
