Royce's NAMA white chocolate

My friend had a box of Royce's NAMA white chocolate so I managed to try a piece because I was curious.

It came in a white block which you have to cut.

The texture of the chocolate was slightly soft, similar to that of butter and lard.
When you eat it, it feels like cheese but it was too sweet for my liking.

A cute coffee shed

I have always wanted to try this place because it is the smallest coffee shop in Hong Kong, but since I do not drink coffee there was nothing for me to try until I read the recent reviews about chocolate!

The shop is about the width of a bicycle.
The sitting area is so small that only one person can go in and if someone wants to get out or get in, you have to come out to let the other person do so.

Although the place is tiny, it is heavily decorated with bric a brac and postcards.

This place has a lot of publicity because of its size but it is strange that there are not many reviews on it.

Thick hot chocolate:

I loved it because it was so thick you have to spoon it like a dessert.
To be honest it tasted like chocolate flavoured English custard and there was no sour aftertaste which was amazing.

Definitely a good choice for a cold winters day and if your feeling peckish for dessert.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grapefruit soda (crodino):

This soda was unique and there is nothing that tastes quite like this.
The owners flew them here from Italy.
They said it was grapefruit soda which looked like Irn bru from its coppery orange colour.
The taste was sweet at first and then came an ultra bitter tone, which tastes exactly like grapefruit peel!
According to Wiki Crodino is a non-alcoholic bitter aperitif, produced since 1964. It is an orange colored drink made of herbal extracts and sugar, and it is sold in 6 oz bottles primarily consumed in Italy and other European countries.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
hot chocolate with ginger:

This was a little disappointing because I was expecting it to be thick just like the chocolate drink above.
The ginger was nice and strong but there was a slight sour aftertaste.
It also had a milkier taste and a powdery chocolate texture in the drink.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I can't wait to come back for the thick chocolate again.

Royce lookalike chocolates

Walked past and saw these chocolates in a Chinese bakery.

They looked really special because the appearance was just like Royce's chocolate but cut irregularly.

It costs $6 for 4 pieces.

The texture was similar to Royce and they were also dusted with cocoa powder, but they were not as silky and do not melt in your mouth like Royce does.

Although you could taste the chocolate, it was too sweet and there was too much vegetable oil in the chocolate because the texture was like solid lard.
Anyway, it was definitely an interesting find in a Chinese bakery.

When I got back, I was surprised to see Mjqueen7e's review on the same chocolates in 2010, which must mean these chocolates are successful if they are still selling them since then!!!

In 2010, they cost $1 per piece according to Mjqueen7e's review:

Chocolate burgers and mini icecream cones

Chocolat-ier (Causeway Bay)
I have not been to Chocolat-ier for ages but recently I had this cute confectionary Cornetto and Chocolat-ier had it too so decided to try theirs.

I got these last year and forgot to review them until I read the recent reviews on Chocolat-ier which jogged my memory.

As well as mini confectionary icecream cones, they also had chocolate burgers and pizzas.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate burger:

Basically it was a biscuit sandwiched in between two halves of chocolate.
It was quite nice just like having a chocolate biscuit with a bigger proportion of chocolate.

2/3 Dolci Dark Chocolate Fruit and Nut Florentine

After the tasting at Dolci, each guest was given a box of Dark Chocolate Fruit and Nut Florentine.

It was a neatly designed blue box which had a red cover designed by ROKO studio featuring pantone with gold and a diecut of a Christmas bauble shape in the middle.

Inside the box were two whole pieces of 64% dark chocolate covered with premium imported hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds, sultanas, raisins and cranberries.
The chocolate was nice and not too sweet with gorgeous pieces of fruit and nuts.

Dark chocolate bar with raspberries

agnès b. DÉLICES (Causeway Bay)

Thanks to Gary for getting me these chocolates.

As well as the chocolate, I really liked the packaging.
It was bright red with a gold bunny on it.

The chocolate inside the box was impressive because it had four bars inside, each individually wrapped for convenience.

The dark chocolate was really nice with crispy raspberry candies in it.
It was a nice combination of dark chocolate and tart raspberries which were not too sweet.

Chocolate emulsion dream

Jean-Paul Hévin Boutique et Bar à Chocolat (Central)
I have always wanted to try this place when I saw a magazine article about a cup of hot chocolate flavoured with green tea.

However, when I got there, it was not served because it was a seasonal product.

The last time I had a hot chocolate containing real chocolate was at VERO.

When you enter this shop, it appears to be an ordinary chocolatier, but there is seating upstairs which is quite cosy, there is a mini rock garden above the entrance which can be seen on the 1st floor.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate emulsion:

On my first attempt to dine at this place, they did not have the Raspberry one and it was helpful of them to tell me before I went upstairs to the cafe area.
On my second visit, it was available so I dined there.
When it came, the chocolate emulsion was contained in a classy vacuum glass cup which was clear and you could see round it.

On the top, there was thick looking chocolate cream which was dense chocolate paste, tasting a bit like soft praline with strong cocao taste.

From the side of the glass, you can see the raspberry compote at the bottom with some white cream mixed in.

The taste of this was amazing, because the chocolate was extremely light, it was bascially like fine whipped chocolate foam, and at the bottom I loved the tart raspberry compote and cream which made the dessert really dreamy.
The chocolate foam is similar to the British dessert Angel Delight but much much lighter.
The best thing about this dessert was that it was not sweet at all or even cloyingly sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★:
Summer iced teas:

There were basically two flavours but if you look at the menu above it is really misleading as well as confusing!
Mint tea and green apple puree should be green but this is represented by the first picture because the green tea and apricot puree is referring to the second picture which should be the colour of the first.
Anyway I ordered the second one, so I was expecting green tea with apricot puree.

When it came, the colour of the drink light green so I presumed it was the apricot.
After taking a sip, there was some faint apricot taste but I could also taste mint too which should not be there.
As well as the foul mint taste, it was too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolat chaud nosy be:A pure cocoa from Madascagar with tangy and red fruit tones.
The special chocolate drink was not available so I decided to get one of their signature hot chocolates, so I chose the one with red fruit tones, hoping it would taste as tangy as the dessert above.

When it arrived, it was a jug of hot chocolate with a little cute cup. There was actually quite a lot of hot chocolate in the jug.

Anyway, took one sip and it was a total disappointment, there was no red fruit tones in it. It was extremely plain sweet hot chocolate.
I definately agree with HKE's comment that it should be quality and not quantity. The cup of chocolate at VERO's was slightly better.

Chocolate Journey Through Hong Kong

Chocoyou (Sheung Wan)

I missed the chocolate trail at Harbour City but Thanks to Chocoyou, I did the chocolate journey of Hong Kong.
Although I am not keen on Chinese food, some were quite nice.

“Chocolate Journey Through Hong Kong” is a brand new chocolate series inspired by the foods of Hong Kong.

The founder and Master Chocolatier Alexis Kwong Alvarez created an assortment of colourful chocolates with delicate flavours and ingredients from his hometown Hong Kong.

There are nine flavours and the coloured squares of chocolate looked really cute in the box.

At the back of the box, the flavours are listed and denoted by the colour on the chocolates.

The knife I used was crap because it was a plastic disposable knife which did not give a clean cut and some crumbled.
(ooops)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blue: Hong Kong Milk Tea with Dark Chocolate

The milk tea taste could have been stronger because the dark chocolate taste was quite strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Clouds: Earl Grey Tea with Milk Chocolate

The earl grey was delicious and pretty, I liked the baby blue and white clouds on it.
The taste of earl grey was strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Silver: Black Sesame with Dark Chocolate

Visually this was my favourite because silver is my favourite colour.
The filling was interesting because it was filled with sesame paste and not whole black sesame seeds.
I do not normally like black sesame but it tasted nice with the dark chocolate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White: Red Bean Ice with White Chocolate

I am not keen on white chocolate nor red beans but it tasted ok.
My friend ( a local from Hong Kong) tried it and loved it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Orange: Hong Kong Peanut Waffle with Milk Chocolate

I do not really like peanut butter but this was the best because the peanut butter really smooth and velvety, and it was not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Red: Szechuan Pepper Dark Chocolate

The spicyness of this was quite strong but if you can eat chili then this is the one for you.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yellow: Curry Coconut Dark Chocolate

The taste of curry could have been spicier and stronger but it was light, the coconut taste was actually quite strong and it was a bit like satay sauce mixed with chocolate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green: Wasabi Dark Chocolate

The wasabi was quite nice because it was quite savoury without the sting of wasabi followed by the sweetness of the chocolate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mondrian: V.S.O.P Cognac Dark Chocolate

This was really nice because it has the fragrant flavour of cognac that is not too strong which is perfect for people who do not drink alchohol.
