Cane juice pudding from Central's Kung Lee? @ 砵仔王

Previously I got the bottled cane juice, which seemed to come from Kung Lee according to the label.
This time I walked past, I saw Cane juice jello for $5 so I got two pieces.
Since the juice had a Kung Lee label, I wondered if the pudding was also from Central's Kung Lee as well.

The texture of this pudding was softer than Kung Lee's, it was translucent like jelly, which makes sense the shop labelled it as JELLO.
It was much smoother and not lumpy like the one in KL, the taste was just as good as Kung Lee's and the sweetness was just right.
HOWEVER on my second visit, the sweetness was inconsistent, it was too sweet.
I also got the black sesame jello but I did not like it because it was too sweet and had grounded black sesame in it.
But in general I do not like black sesame or Chinese desserts anyway.

Good old Gin Curry @ Gin Curry

Compared with other Japanese curries, this one has to be the cheapest.

Anyway I gave it a revisit to try the omlette curry and the deep fried pork cutlet curry.

At first I was quite iffy about the ketchup on the egg, but in UK I would put ketchup in my curry.
However the curry in UK is different, it is not sweet like the Asian ones.

The egg was cooked nicely and not overdone, and the cheese on top gave it some flavour.
The pork cutlet was slightly greasy and dry.

Plain Japanese salmon fried rice @ Tokyo Bento

Previously tried the bento boxes which were not very exciting.

This time I tried the Japanese fried rice, it was nice when it was hot, however after it cooled down, the fish started to smell.
There was no egg in the fried rice, and it was plain salmon and japanese pearl rice.
It was slightly dry and bland, but good for the elderly because salmon has omega-3 and it was not salty at all.
The rice was not oily which was good.

"Black sugar" and wintermelon drink @ 南城北市

Saw this on promotion for $6 so gave it a try.

Overall it was quite nice after I diluted it because it was too sweet.

There was some jelly at the bottom.

After searching for "black sugar" on the internet, I couldnt find any official information on it, all the search results came up with brown sugar.
The only sites that had it was Taiwanese and Japanese sites.

Tai Hing roast everyday, but not for me

Before the mass advertisements and commercials THE used to be an average place for Chinese food serving Chinese roasts.
To me, they still fare average despite the amount of TVC’s campaigns featuring how you can go there for breakfast, tea, dinner, anytime, any day theme.

Ordered the crunchy roast pork belly in wasabi sauce, which includes soup.

Although the food was not impressive, their customer service was really good, there was a fly in the soup and the waitress apologised and exchanged the soup.
{It was probably the same soup brought back with the fly removed, but at least they said Sorry and offered to exchange it, which is better than other restaurants.}

I did not like the food much, because the rice beneath the meat was fried rice and baked again with the pork on top, it made the rice dry and greasy.
The pork was chewy and not fresh, and there was a strong overnight pork odour to it.

I would have preferred it if it was plain rice and Roast BBQ pork in wasabi as opposed to pork belly.

Although I did not like it, but it would be a good source of calories for those who need it, especially with the combination of fried rice and roast pork belly for the cold winter.

Contradicting menus without any small print

Went in thinking I was dining the Happy-Hour session according to their menu shown and also according to their POS system it was 14:00:53 However on the bill they issued there was no discount because they said it was the weekend, but there was no fine print or even a teeny weeny misleading print to indicate that weekdays and weekends are different. Ordered stir-fried dry curry flat noodles and prawn noodles in gravy.

Vermicelli starter
This was complimentary but the taste was too spicy as starter.
It tasted like vermicelli tossed in chili and lemon dressing.
The starter ruined my appetite because it was too spicy and left my tongue burning so bad that I could not distinguish whether the main food items were too hot in temperature or whether it was the spiciness that was stinging my tongue.
After drinking some water, the burning sensation was reduced. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried dry curry ho-fun:
Initially I could not taste anything, but after drinking some water, I could taste that the sweetness of the curry powder used. The scrambled egg strands in the noodles were surprisingly quite nice. The oil odour was not that strong. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn ho fun in gravy:
This was basically stir-fried noodles topped with prawns and vegetables cooked in clear gravy.
The noodles were stir-fried as well like above but tasted greasier and smelt of oil.
I would have expected this to be slightly healthier than the curry ho-fun, but this was so much oilier. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chilli sauce:
The chili sauce was contained in a cute ceramic pot with a cute spoon. Not quite sure what was in the sauce but there seemed to be some grounded pork in it and it was slighty sour.
The sauce was quite nice and not that spicy. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Although this place has been awarded many awards, I found the food average. http://www.mathai.com.hk/
