Came here just for the potato rosti! at 美味坊

I have always wanted to try this place for the potato rosti but it is in the middle of nowhere.
From the middle of nowhere it is now right next to a new MTR exit which was the perfect excuse to come!
Before you get there, you have to go on the slowest escalators which are perfect for the elderly and people who don't know how to use the escalators.

When you get there, this cafe has a nice secluded dining area and the seats are the benches that you would find in parks and now Burger Circus have used them.

There are thrushes flying in and out the food court so it is really cool with birds chirping but not so cool if the avian flu is about.

While I sat there, it felt like I was on a British train because the seating is similar to that.

As I was there for the potato rosti, I had to order the set which comes with tea, toast and omelette.
I suppose I should have asked them if I could just have a rosti knowing that I would not like the Chinese omelette which was rubbery and hard.
The tea is obviously HK style tea.

Toast:

The toast was surprisingly good because the butter was decent and it was toasted just right with a soft middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato rosti:

As expected the rosti was delicious, it was probably home made by them because the potato strands were soft and wet.

It had a gorgeous crispy surface while the middle was soft delicious grated potato.

New year's eve gathering

Decided to have a gathering at Kennedy Town because the MTR stops there now.

Ordered the signature dishes:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Parma Ham and rock melon:
A nice plate of parma ham with juicy melon chunks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken wings:
The coating was light and tasted like cajun spices while the chicken wings were soft and juicy that the soft bones near the joints came off easily too.
The piping hot wings tasted delicious with the cooling lemon mayonnaise.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried portobello with chicken strips, bacon, brown sauce and rocket:

This was my favourite because the coating absorbed the tasty brown sauce which tasted like Marmite.'
In the middle there was a big juicy portobello mushroom.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pancetta pizza:

Bacon lovers will love this but personally I found the bacon too fat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Aglio olio:
Each strand was covered in olive oil and herbs which made it delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vongole:

The pasta had a strong wine taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken cacciatore: was the daily special that day.

The chicken was soft and came off the bone but it lacked taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tiramisu:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Panna cotta:

Dreamy pure white marshmallows

Thanks to Wanttoeat for getting me these marshmallows which are made by Ling.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Marshmallows:

Each one was pretty and uniquely shaped like meringue kisses.
The texture was bouncy and soft with a delicious strong vanilla taste just like the marshmallow flumps that you can buy.
I really liked these homemade marshmallows because the sweetness was just right with lots of gelatin and there are no artificial colours in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hoping to see other flavours such as Earl Grey.

Best grocer in Kennedy Town

Kennedy Town is a big trek for me so I grouped a few places to dine.
I planned going there on the 2nd of June which was a public holiday Monday but couldn't because they don't open on Mondays.

Sundays would be a great day to go because they have fried chicken but they don't have a place to sit or a bar table to facilitate people dining there.

At Sunday's Grocery, they sell fast food, alcohol, condiments and these iceballs which are served in fancy cocktails.

I would have ordered the sandwich but since I was going to have more food that evening I settled for the Chicken fingers.
Next time I am going to try the Jewish penicillin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken fingers:

The chicken fingers came in a sturdy and trendy box lined with grease paper.
There was kewpie mayonnaise and ketchup to accompany the chicken.

The chicken was perfectly fried and tender inside.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cool matchsticks:

While I was there, I picked up some really nice matchsticks which were in a cute cigarette packet the same size as a normal matchbox.

The secret to Cake's Secrets is Anchor cream

After dining at Fish and Chick for a salad, then having some fried chicken at Sunday's Grocery (not listed on OpenRice yet), this was my last stop for dessert.

Since my last visit, there are so many new cakes in the range.

As usual I had my favourite purple sweet potato dessert.
The taste was just as good as before with delicious silky purple potato that is not too sweet with fluffy whipped cream in the middle that was balanced perfectly with their light dreamy layers of delicate sponge cake!!

I found out that they use Anchor whipping cream in their cakes which is why it tastes so deliciously different.

I Do Like Fish & Chick Beside The Seaside

Fish & Chick (Western District)
Ever since The Chippy closed down in the heart of Central, I have been looking for a good place for Fish and Chips.

When I heard about this new chippy I had to go there ASAP~
This place is called Fish & Chick serving my beloved roast chicken too!

Located in Kennedy town and facing the sea, it was the best location to ever be in Hong Kong!
A real decent seafront without anything in the sea such as the Hongkish ferry harbour or those small smelly boats in Sai Kung which pollute the seafront with the smell of petrol.

Kennedy Town has the best sea view in my opinion, you can see and smell sea air which reminds me of the seaside town I was born in.

Luckily I was born in the scenic Victorian town of Eaxtbxurxe down the south east by the sea, so I could take a stroll anytime along the seafront, the pier and at the other neighbouring seaside towns.

I fell in love with Fish and Chips one day when my grandma took me to Qualisea.

During the summer people would flock there to get some tan on the pebble beaches.

Just for fun I have changed the lyrics to the song:

[I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside - A song composed at a time when the yearly visits of the British working-class to the seaside were booming]

Oh I do like Fish & Chick beside the seaside
Oh I do like Fish & Chips beside the sea
Oh I do like to walk along the prom prom prom
Where the brass band plays tiddly-om-pom-pom
Just let me have Fish & Chips beside the seaside
I’ll be beside myself with glee
There are lots of fish
That I’d like Fish & Chick besides
Beside the seaside, beside the sea

Anyway when I got there, it was the Chippy I had in mind!
Decorated in sea blue with cartoon fonts.

[Note! The people dining at the front and the stools happen to match the decor!!]

On the walls they had oars and a boat wheel which really reminded me of seaside towns.

At the far end, I loved the neon letterings of the name.

When you dine there, there is an amazing view of the sea!
There is a lovely fish and chip shop smell too.

The menu had fish and chips and there were quite a few choices for fish such as Cod, Ling, Red snapper, Barramundi etc.

It was like a combined menu from ChipIn (Sai Kung) and SeaSalt (Mosque Street) because it features the fishermans basket (squid, prawn and fish) and the use of canola oil just like ChipIn.
The choice of fish on the menu and the price reminds me of Seasalt.

I came here a few times because I had to try the different fishes as well as roasted chicken on the rotisserie which they marinate there.

They have nice designed boxes for takeaways too.

Here was what I had!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
COD and chips:

The cod was divine! It was flakey and chunky.

The best thing was that cod skin was attached which added to the flavour just like the ones in the UK.
On the side there was tartar sauce, salt flakes and vinegar, the salt flakes were amazing with the fish because it enhanced it without being too salty.
It was good that it came with a side of vinegar because vinegar is a must with Fish and Chips but I would prefer shaking it out of a bottle because it gives an even distribution of vinegar and I can put as much as I want.
It kills the fun not being able to shake it from the bottle.
As for the chips, they tasted nice with the fish but they were not the chips I was looking for.
The fish was a bit watery which you can see from the picture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast chicken with mash:

The chicken was tender and amazing and it had lovely stuffing rubbed on the other side.
I loved the crispy chicken skin!!
It was good that they put effort and sliced the chicken into smaller chunks before serving.
However the gravy tasted a bit like coffee and the mash tasted like instant mash mix which was a bit dry but saying that instant mash mix tastes good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ling and chips:
Compared to the COD, the texture of the Ling fish was dense and slightly dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway! I will be back and I do like to be beside the seaside!
