burrito from Calimex

Mr Taco Truck which used to be in Quarry Bay is now in Central and now there is Cali-Mex.
There are three branches of Cali-Mex, the first one opened in Central, followed by Wan Chai and now the third branch at Quarry Bay.
The other two are dine ins, but this one is takeaway only.

Previously tried the Central branch and I loved it.

Had the burrito which was loaded with delicious beans, rice and all that.

Definitely a good choice compared to the other local expensive crap around the area.
Another great option along with Enoteca, News Room and the other Western dos!~

Anyway, as I love Central, I shall be eating at that branch more often!

Mexican flare at Agave Tequila Y Comida

Came here for a quick fix and my favourite dish was on the menu.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MOLE VERDE DE Fish:

This was Grilled fish in a green mole sauce made with pumpkin seeds and spices served with steamed rice/Mexican rice and Vegetables/refried beans.
I was a bit annoyed because it took ages to come and I had to chase for it.
The Mexican rice was not as tasty as before and the mole sauce lacked taste as well.
The portions are slightly smaller these days and they serve the food on square plates.

Improvement needed at Agave needed

Agave Tequila Y Comida (Wan Chai)

Came here for a casual lunch because I have not had their lunches for a long time.

After ordering the food took ages to arrive.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

The soup which was sweetcorn soup did not look like sweetcorn soup and the taste was very bland.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MOLE VERDE DE POLLO:

Grilled chicken leg in a green mole sauce made with pumpkin seeds and spices.
Served with steamed rice/Mexican rice and Vegetables/refried beans.
I was a bit annoyed because it took ages to come and I had to chase for it.
What was more annoying was that I ordered Mexican rice and they ran out and didi not tell me.
The chicken and mole sauce just lacked taste and was not as tasty as before.
The portions were slightly small and now they serve the food on square plates and not the rectangular ones they used before.

Mexican buffet lunch at I-Caramba!

I Caramba! (Central)

I have always wanted to try the Mexican buffet at I Caramba! but it is only available during weekday lunches.

It costs $88 per person with refillable drinks such as lemon tea.

I went on a Monday and surprisingly the restaurant was almost full before 1pm.

The selection was quite good, they had my favourite refried beans, black beans, guacamole and sour cream.

The refried beans were a bit sweet and it tasted like baked beans, the black beans were a bit hard, and the guacamole was the best because it was light and tangy

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo this Sunday 5/5

Agave Tequila Y Comida (Wan Chai)

With lots of celebrations in May, the Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo on 5th of May.
Cinco de Mayo means 5th of May.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.

At Agave you can also celebrate this day by having a Mexican buffet from 7pm to 9.30pm on the 5th of May with the Mariachi band performing that evening.

As a food blogger we were privileged to try their Cinco de Mayo dishes.

It was not my first time dining there because I have been there quite a few times for lunch if you have read reviews on this restaurant or my previous reviews.
I prefer the Cinco de Mayo selection because for lunch I always have to see if my favorite items are on the lunch set that day.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Nachos:I did not eat nachos before because the ones I have had were really thick and hard, but the ones here were really thin and crispy covered with delicious cheese and sour cream.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread sole fish:

The fish was soft and melts in your mouth with silky texture and with a wonderful selection of dips and sauces, the fish will taste delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled chicken:

The chicken was tender and packed with lots of spices, for even more spicyness there are more dips available.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Marinated pork:

This was quite dry but it was still packed with flavours.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chili con carne:

Compared to the one I had at lunch, it looks different because there are no beans in the dish and the beef looks pulled and not the minced version.
Anyway, the taste was rich and full of spices which was nice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
prawn molcajetes:
The stone molcajetes pot was stunning and the metal spoon too making it a lovely rustic dish.
I found it quite spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
spicy pork quesadillas:
I loved the pork quesadillas, there was cheese inside and the quesadillas was crisp and light complemented with delicious guacamole, sour cream and salsa.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sides and condiments:

Sides:There was Mexican rice, refried beans, corn tortillas, tortilla chips.
Condiments:guacamole, tomato salsa, pineapple salsa, cucumber, lettuce, lime wedges, red radish, japaleno, chipotle, habanero, serano chili.
BEWARE of the Habanero sauce because it is very spicy.
There was tomatillo too which was not tomato.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drinks:

There was ordinary Margarita and Frozen strawberry/Mango and margarita.
I felt that the frozen one tasted better, especially the strawberry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Desserts:

These were not on the buffet menu but we tried them as well.
There was Flan De Naranja and Crepas con Cajeta, the flan was similar to thick cheesecake and was very sweet, but the Crepas was extremely delicious because the caramel taste was strong and creamy.

Dutch baby: An exclusive at Hong Kong's Wired Cafe

I would just like to thank the communications team for inviting me to try their Dutch oven pancakes.

Prior to this visit, I have already tried it twice especially for their Dutch oven pancakes, once at Hysan place for their sweet Dutch pancake and the other time at this branch for their savoury pancake.

At the TST branch, it is more casual and serves more desserts for people to sit down and have a break.
It is right next to some Japanese gift shops which sells quite a lot of nifty gadgets and household objects.
At this tasting, we tried two rices, two sweet and savoury pancakes.
Their pancakes have tempura mixture added to it to give it a better texture and taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom and tomato pancake:
This was nice and the mushroom was quite substantial however the tomatoes could be more tangy and for more flavour there could have been olives.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prosciutto and cheese pancake:
This was my favourite because the prosciutto was wafer thin and soft, its saltyness and the pancake tasted nice together.
The pancake was crispy on the sides and soft at the base.
It would have been nice if they had guerkins in this as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Gapao rice :
When this came, I was instantly reminded of Nasi Goreng because of the presentation of the rice, minced meat, and prawn crackers.
Basically, it was minced chicken cooked with basil and chili and it was amazingly delicious because the spicyness of the chilis were just right complemented by rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
King taco rice:
When I first saw the poster for this, I didn't quite know what it was because the name was so Mexican but it looked like a salad.
This dish is surprisingly an Okinawan dish!!
Anyway it was rice topped with chili con carne surrounded by salad with lovely cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.
The cheese and spices smell really nice when it is just done and the chili con carne beneath it is piping hot.
After mixing it together it was so delicious because the salad balances out the chili con carne and they have also put a sauce on it which tastes similar to sour cream but better.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate banana whipped cream pancake: For banana and chocolate lovers this is a perfect dessert.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mixed berry custard pancake: This pancake was really delicious, it was topped with delicate berries which were lovely and tart.
The generous cream on the pancake was nice with the tart berries, however I could not taste the custard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Perrier with raspberry:
This was basically perrier with raspberry syrup.
I liked it because you mix it yourself and the raspberry taste was refreshing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lime and kiwi lassi:
Usually you get mango lassi, but here they have lime with kiwi which is not that sour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Improvements and suggestions:
Overall I liked the Dutch oven pancakes but I felt that if the pancake base for the savoury ones were not sweetened then it would be perfect.
The tomatoes in the tomato and mushroom pancake could have been more tangy.
