Squid ink series @ The Ramen

The Ramen (Kowloon Bay)

Came here because the other places were packed and this place was quite empty.

I was attracted by the black squid udon and ramen so ordered them both.
I believe they mean Squid ink/Black squid ink because there is no such thing as black squid.

Black squid yaki udon:

The udon was nice and al-dente and the squid ink sauce was a little too salty and the crushed garlic was too strong.

Black squid Miso ramen:

I ordered this because it was not spicy according to staff, but when it came it was red because they gave me this other spicy ramen by mistake.

After a while, the correct one came, but it was slightly spicy so I believed they used the same ramen but put it in the squid ink broth.
The ramen fared better than the udon because the broth was stronger.

The ramens were a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Special dishes on special occasions

Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant (Kowloon Bay)

Not the place to go on public holidays or festive dates because they only offer the most expensive noodles and fried rices so its like take it or leave it.

Roast pork:

This was the best roast pork I have tried, it was dinky and cute, it was cut into cube shaped pieces and the skin was extremely crispy.
All the pieces had a nice distribution of pork, fat and skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried garlic vegetables:

This was too salty.

Fried chicken leg set for $25

Yat Yuet Sing Fast Food Shop (Kowloon Bay)

The fried chicken legs here are great so decided to get it again.

This time I got the set for $25 which has a drink, ham sandwich and fried chicken leg.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken leg:The chicken was rather dry on this visit and it did not come off the bone easily.
It was difficult to eat because it was extremely hot and would not cool down in the hot weather.
It was nice of them to supply a disposable plastic glove so you didn't get your hands oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ham sandwich:It was buttered bread with a slice of ham in the middle.

I took the ham out and put chicken, crispy chicken skin in it instead and the chicken sandwich tasted much nicer.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drink:There was a choice of fizzy drinks, HK style tea or coffee which I do not drink but chose coke for the sake of choosing it and had a few sips.
It was fizzy unlike other places that serve flat drinks.
