Seafood mania at 肥妹燒烤小食

It was an honour and a pleasure to join the Tai O food tour held by Tai O Heritage hotel because we got to try different joints in the lanes of Tai O.

There were three groups so each group tried different shops marked on their routes.
Tai O is a lovely town on water which is themed as a Chinese Venetian with stilt houses on water and they are also famous for fermented prawn paste.


This was a shop on our list which I have tried before.
Prices can be pricey but the squid with wasabi was good and the clams are good if they are in season.



Brunch at Epure

Tried the four course brunch at $398 that is served Saturdays and Sundays from 12-3pm.
Started off with elegant and dainty amuse bouche, followed by bread and butter.






For drinks I had tea because I love tea and it was brewed with tea leaves and not the tea bag.

taboule au homard +$38:
lobster and spelt berry salad, cucumbers and salad leaves


Started off with this refreshing salad of lobster slices on top of finely chopped cucumbers herbs and spelt berries.
The salad was crisp and juicy which was great for whetting the appetite and the herbs were fragrant but not too strong.

la soupe de tomate d'antan:
chilled heirlom tomato veloute, aubergine compote, basil and crispy Nyons olive bread shaving.




The soup was the next appetizer that made us hungrier because the tomato was quite tart while the aubergine compote mellowed it out.

roast chicken:

For the roast chicken, there was white meat and dark meat, both were good especially the white meat which had perfectly roasted skin attached.

The salad which looks simple was plainly nice because there was not much dressing yet it was slightly salted and tasted great.

dessert:

Finished with this lovely dessert that had light and smooth caramel icecream.
As well as sweet choices, you can also choose cheese because they have famous cheeses from France.

The petit fours had an interesting bite which had marshmallow in the middle coated in chocolate.

PFC and MSG is strong at 海南雞專門店(第二分店)

I have always wanted try this but there is always a long queue.



Siezed the chance because the queue was short.
I ordered the chicken with liver but he put gizzards in the bowl, luckily the lady who took my order realized and told him which wiped the smile off his face.
Since it was already there, I got the gizzards as well for an extra $5 which put the smile back on his face!!
The portion was slightly bigger than my expectation but the Polystyrene foam smell was stronger than the chicken, ginger puree and the rice was the worst because it had the strongest PFC smell and taste.
The ginger puree as you can see was very stringy and old!


The rice and liver on the edge was the worst because it was literally intoxicated with Polystyrene foam odour.
To be fair, if they had not used the Polystyrene foam bowl and MSG, it would have been amazing because I was thirsty the whole afternoon.
I know $25 for the food is really cheap but it should be safe to eat.

Golden Bauhinia Cantonese Restaurant mooncakes 2015

Thanks to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre​ for sending over some mooncakes.
The mooncakes were in a lovely satin purple and green box which has a ribbon at the top.





Inside were two mooncakes: Double yolk white lotus seed paste mooncake and Black date paste and walnut mooncake.



Lucullus soft cookies

Normally I get Mrs Fields cookies but this time went past Lucullus and discovered they had soft cookies so got the chocolate banana one.

It was put into a paper bag.



The cookie had a rich chocolate taste that was not too sweet with a hint of banana and it crumbled too easily that I couldn't take a bite without it falling into pieces.

Halloween desserts at MOS Burger

These are not Halloween desserts but they remind me of Halloween because they look bloody gory!

After trying both, the pumpkin is recommended, the other one was too sweet.

Hokkaido pumpkin pudding:
It didn't look like pumpkin pudding at first glance because of the berries and redness.

Beneath the sauce, there was pumpkin pudding.


The pudding was quite nice because it was not too sweet and there was a slight burnt caramel taste and the pumpkin pudding had a mushy texture.

Chocolate Coffee jelly:
On the menu, it reads chocolate cafe jelly.

Basically it was chocolate mousse on top which was too sweet, then I tried the coffee jelly and that was even worse.
The jelly was really sweet and very bitter, but the sweetness managed stand out more than the bitterness so you can imagine how sweet it was.

牛雜佬's Braised pomelo peel

It seems that this joint no longer has a fixed stall so they have a temporary mobile one.

Anyway, I am not really an offal fan but the smell was captivating so I went to have a look and saw some pomelo peel so I got that.
I got a takeaway because it was difficult to stand there and eat as the place was too hot.
Shockingly, the pomelo was put straight into the plastic bag which I hope is food grade because hot food shouldn’t be placed directly in contact with plastic bags but that is the mentality here.
Some restaurants even use plastic cups for boiling water.


The pomelo peel was mushy and delicious, oozing with beef offal broth as you ate.
It was old pomelo peel because there were lots of fibres but luckily they were soft because it has been boiling in the pot for at least a few days.
The only flaw was the saltiness because it was a bit too salty.
