FIFA 2014 at Yorkshire Pudding

This is a great place to watch FIFA because they have it LIVE!!!

Anyway tried various of snacks:
Nachos
Scotch egg
Chips.

My favourites were the scotch eggs because it had a lovely molten egg yolk encased in delicious pork patty with crispy breadcrumbs on the outside.

There were many craft beers, and the London Pride I tried was quite bitter.

Summer is here at Gin Sai Japanese Restaurant

Tried the Summer seafood set at Gin Sai which was exquisite as well as a cooler for summer in the quiet side of Wan Chai.
The restaurant has great privacy.

Here was the summer menu we tried which was mainly seafood.

The portions were decent and filling.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Starter:
Sea urchin, caviar, summer vegetables with dashi jelly.

The starter was wonderful, it was refreshing lily bulb root mash at the base mixed with crunchy vegetables such as beans and onions which flavoured it with natural sweetness.
It was topped with fresh urchin and caviar which was sensational with the savoury cold jelly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Abalone with seaweed clear soup:

I loved this soup because it was not miso based, the sweet and unami flavours came from the sweet abalone and kelp.
The abalone was soft and sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sashimi: Toro, Hamachii and Mackerel

After having hot soup, the sashimi was a nice refresher.
It came with freshly grated wasabi which had a earthy taste with the usual mustard kick.
My favourite was the Toro because it was fatty balanced nicely by the soy wasabi sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled sweet fish with herb pepper sauce:

The sauce for this was awesome because the peppery kick was nice and it had a strong citrus flavour with fragrant grounded kinome leaves.
The sweet fishes were slightly bitter but they were enhanced with this lovely sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hairy crab meat with tosa vinegar jelly

I loved the way the crab meat was presented, it was a pile of crab meat with a side of kelp covered in mouth watering tosa vinegar jelly.
The crab had some tones of ginger in it and the vinegar jelly just made it appetizing, the amount of crab in the portion was impressive and there were no crab shells and the side of kelp was tasty as well as filling.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tempura:
The tempura turned out really nice especially the fish because they were perfectly fried.
Green eye fish was silky, boneless and delicious and the snapper was gorgeous because it tasted like soft cod and the scales were edible too.

The salts given complimented it nicely especially with the lemon.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cold inaniwa udon noodles

The udon was nicely chilled because it was surrounded in chunky crushed ice.

After dipping it in lovely soy sauce with seaweed, spring onions it was a lovely filling end to the meal.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry mousse cake

The dessert was so beautiful, the vibrant reds against the lush green strawberry leaves and brown chocolate cake base, dotted with crunchy chocolate pieces and meringue pieces.
The dessert was a great energizer because of the summery colours and the mousse cake was light paired with fresh strawberries.

Mini chocolates by Lucullus

I got these because they were cute and miniature!

In the box, each chocolate represents a country with different flavours:
Peanut rice crispy, almond praline, lemon, earl grey, sea salt, Jasmine, strawberry, macadamia nuts, apple, mango, pistachio, hazelnut, tiramisu, coffee, wasabi, orange.

The prettiest ones were probably the apple and orange!

My favourites were the earl grey, jasmine and pistachio and because of the size you can try more flavours in one go without eating too many.

Kee Wah wedding cake coupon

For Chinese weddings you are always given a cake coupon to get cakes from the designated bakery.
They are mostly from Maxim's or Saint Honore so I was surprised when it was from Kee Wah.
The value of the coupon is $62 and it is great that they have non bakery items such as Chinese tea which you can redeem it on.
Great for expats because Chinese cakes just taste weird.

Depending on the tea, there are two prices: $42 or $48.

Got two of the $42 ones and one of the $48.

After taking it out of the tins, you could see why their is a price difference.

Each tea had brewing instructions in Chinese and English.

For the cheaper one (left), it is vacuum packed tightly whereas the more expensive was vacuum sealed.

The more expensive tea leaves are chunkier and flat hence they can't be packed tightly which would otherwise break them.

The cheaper tea.

The tea turned out to be quite strong so more water was needed.

I used two coupons because my expat friend does not like Chinese bakery and we shared the teas!!

Second visit to Texas Burger

As said in my previous review I would visit again.

This time I tried the chicken tikka, vegetarian burger and pulled pork burger.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken tikka:

The rice was interesting because it had herbs sprinkled on top.

As for the curry, it was very spicy and gets spicier when you eat it.
The only improvement is that the rice could be softer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian burger:

The veggie patty was amazing because it had rice in it and the melted cheese on top was proper cheddar cheese which made it taste like baked cheese and rice.
As well as the patty, the creamy avocado made it more filling and nutritious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pulled pork burger:

The pork was sweet and it was pulled nicely, however the sauce can get a bit spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as Butcher's club, this is now my favourite haunt for a cheap and filling veggieburger.

Simple Belgian baguettes and soup at Tallore‏

Just a door away from the French rotisserie is this new Belgian eatery.

In Hong Kong, Belgian food is just sweet waffles and mussels, but here they sell Belgian yoghurts, baguettes, salads, pastas and artisan soups.

Soups costs from $38 for the smallest size or you can get the souper set for $78 which includes a salad/baguette.
I tried souper set and went back the next day for another soup.
With each souper set you get a free topping which is cheese or croutons.

The Belgian endive soup was wholesome and had a peppery tone.
Broccoli and blue cheese was delicious with pungent blue cheese and it was even more cheesier after adding the free cheese topping to it.

If you choose the baguette set like I did, it is actually good enough for two people.

The gouda and ham was just simple and delicious with generous slices of gouda, fresh crisp lettuce, ham and tomato smothered is delicious mayonnaise.

Tallore will give out FREE SOUPS on the 12th at 12 noon.

Jumbo chocolate egg tart from Tai Cheong bakery

After the successful lemon flavoured Jumbo egg tart, Tai Cheong has now launched a chocolate tart!!
Although the tart was successful, there was no promotion on it, I found out about this tart from All About Hong Kong.

The tart pastry has been improved and not rock hard like before, it is soft and crumbly and tastes delicious as well.
But now the problem is that it collapses easily!!

The chocolate was really nice with layers of chocolate cream, soft chocolate cake and chocolate mousse on top which is thick and slightly jelly like.

They used to sell three per day but now there are loads in the fridge!!
