Value rice special at Chicken Hut, Ilford

While I was Ilford, my eyes were drawn to this Value rice special for which was only £1.99.
I had my doubts on the quality but then I changed my mind when I thought to myself that I was willing to pay £3 for something so why not try it.
Before I tried, it did cross my mind why it wasn't expensive but then their wings and chips was only £1.50 respectively.
When I got the value rice, it was almost the same as the product shot which wasn't bad.
I tried the rice first and was impressed how flavourful the rice was.
It turns out they were really smart and used the chicken drummettes and chicken bones to make broth and cook the rice with it along with cardamon to make the rice tasty.
You can think of it like the KFC gravy flavoured with chicken oil so I reckon they boiled the rice with the chicken bone stock as I found some chicken which looked like it had been boiled.
The good thing was that it was actually good and you could taste it was from fresh chicken.
Moving on to the chicken wings, they were a bit dry but in terms of flavour the coating was super spicy.
Overall, it wasn't bad for that price and there was so much rice that it was probably good enough for two.
Rating: 4/5

Tea at Small Talk Tearooms

Another lovely tearoom that offers a good range of black and green tea blends.
Definitely memorable getting some heart shaped bubbles when pouring my tea.
Most teas are only 2.50 per pot.
Be sure to get their early as they close at 4pm.

Breakfast at The Tea pot cafe at Romford Market

There are still places for proper English food but you have to go to the right places because they are getting scarce.
The Teapot run by the third generation is an amazing place to go and the options they have on the menu are impressive like old school bovril tea, four choices for puddings served with custard and the breakfast menu named after the Royals.
I had Prince Phillip which was a posh egg, bacon and bubble for 2.95.
The poached egg was amazing as it was smooth and tender.
The bubble was memorable because it had broccoli and peas as most places use cabbage so it was really tasty.
They also had traditional puddings listed on the board but it was too good to be true as they didn't have the jam roly poly.
Overall I am so glad I visited.

Fresh seafood treats at The Best Plaice by D.Crosbie

On a random visit to Romford, I discovered this really nice unit in the market serving fresh shellfish just like you would get at the seaside!
It meant another trip to Romford because I was a bit late that day as most things were sold out.
The Best Plaice by D.Crosbie has been around for so many years and this is the third generation.
Went back another weekend a little bit earlier and they had so many things to choose from like crayfish tails, winkles, cockles, whelks, prawns and brown shrimp.
They have all the things like chilli vinegar and pepper which makes the shellfish so tasty.
My favourite picks were the whelks and brown shrimp which were fresh and tasty.
