Pacific Coffee's Iced Genmaicha Latte

There was a choice of Hojicha Latte or Genmaicha, but the Hojicha latte is probably a less popular choice because it is only served hot.

As it was extremely hot that day, I got the Genmaicha.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced Genmaicha Latte:
When it came, it was basically a latte with a few ice cubes in it.

The taste was quite strong. The green tea taste was really grassy and the taste of roasted rice was very prominent.
It was very milky as well.
On the bottom of the cup, there was some sort of sedimentation which could have been rice but it was slightly sticky and chewy.

Tropical assorted taffy

Mrs Fields Cookies (Central)

Thanks to Garycwm for getting me these Taffy.

The taffy were really nice and chewy, it was much softer than toffee.
The chocolate and lime tasted the best.

Apart from the Tropical assorted they also have other flavours but I like the tropical ones because they are colourful.

Taffy is a chewy candy similar to toffee, in the UK they are called chews.
The taffy is rolled, cut into small pastel-coloured pieces and wrapped in wax paper to keep it soft.

There is also salt water taffy that was accidentally invented due to a flood at a sweet shop in Atlanta City.
The sweet shop was flooded with Alantic Ocean water which ruined the candies.

When a young girl went into the shop and asked for taffy, they offered some "salt water taffy." At the time it was a joke, because all the taffy had been soaked with salt water, but the girl was delighted. She bought the candy and proudly walked down to the beach to show her friends.

Dear coconut and mango lovers

Heart's Dessert (Sham Shui Po)

For coconut and mango lovers this is just the dessert shop!

The dessert chef absolutely adores mango which is why almost every item has mango

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Coconut pudding with caramel pudding:

I was really looking forward to this because the last time I had a similar dessert was at Dessert Revolution where they used a Young coconut instead and inside it also had coconut jelly made from coconut water.

I really liked this dessert because the coconut jelly had a stronger taste compared to young coconut and the caramel pudding on top enhanced it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mango, pomelo sweet soup:
Mango lovers will love this and there were also liquid filled pearls too which give it a burst of flavour here and there.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Longan, vanilla icecream and sago dessert:
I really liked this dessert and it was refreshing, the sweetness was just right and I loved the kanten jelly pieces in it too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Almond pudding:

Visually I loved this dessert, pure white almond pudding against the lovely red strawberry slices.
The almond pudding was really silky with strong almond taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Champagne jelly:

The jelly was made with a good proportion of champagne because you can actually taste the alcohol in it.

Just want to Thank Mjqueen7e, 甜入心 and Lxgxxn for inviting me to the tasting.

Plain simple cake at Harlan's

Harlan's Cake Shop (Tsim Sha Tsui)

I have always wanted to try Harlan's but never got round to it because the cake selection is not as good as before.

As I had time before a tasting nearby I only found one of their cakes attractive so tried that cake.

I was attracted to the green one with strawberries but I did not know what it was prior ordering because there was no label for just that cake!

They used to have this pretty cake called the Five Senses and this other green one called Mint Chocolate which I wanted to try to but they did not have it either.

It took a while to get served because there was only one person at the counter while the customer being served was really indecisive on their choices.

Anyway, finally got served and ordered the strawberry cake and found out that it was Green tea and strawberry cake.

All three tables were low in height which made it extremely uncomfortable to dine there because the table level was just lower than the chair seating and the average persons knees.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea and strawberry cake:
The cake had a nice plump red glazed strawberry on top garnished with crushed pistachio pieces.
The cream was white and fluffy and did not taste artificial.

There was a nice balance of cream, ripe strawberry slices in the middle but the green tea cake was surprisingly hard and coarse. The texture was quite dense too but the green tea taste was not too grassy.

I felt that the cake was slightly over priced because the one I chose was not that fancy and the location of this place was not that nice as it was right beside an escalator.

Smoked salmon croissant at Le Salon

Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie (Causeway Bay)

The croissant craze is finally over and they are no longer constantly out of stock.

They have special flavours every month and this time it is Smoked salmon.

During the craze they only sold about 10 -20 of the special flavours each day.

I never thought about trying the special flavour because the regulars flavours were sold out by 5pm in the past.

On this visit, there were quite a few croissants in the cabinet at 6pm, regular and special flavours.

The mango which used to be a special flavour has now become a standard flavour for mango lovers.

There was a croissant set for $45 so I got the set.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon croissant:

The croissant was light with flakey layers, but the salmon filling was a bit too light and lacked salmon taste.

The sauce was basically made with flour which acted as a thickener in the sauce.
I could not even taste the onions or the egg as stated on the poster.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chestnut croissant:
I got the chestnut again because this is the only place that does decent chestnut filling that is not starchy.
It tasted as good as before with light icing on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl Grey tea (large):The tea was really hot!

Too cute! must see and must try Babyccinos

Pacific Coffee Company (Wan Chai)

I was always curious what the Babyccinos were on the Kid's menu so I finally decided to try them both.

There were two choices: Babyccino and Babychoccino.

The Babyccino is basically steamed milk and the Babychoccino is steamed milk with chocolate.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Babychoccino:

The drink was seriously cute when it came, the size of the cup is probably the size used for coffee shots with a lovely big foam cap on the top.

Unfortunately I was not able to photograph it there but I did for the other drink.
The taste was really nice, there was a temperature difference, the first sip was warm and and it gets colder nearer the bottom.
I felt that it was quite sweet so the sugar in this is probably the daily intake of sugar in normal sized beverage.

After I finished it, there was lots of lovely chocolate flavoured froth left.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Babyccino:

This was basically steamed milk. I do not like plain milk so I added cinnamon powder to it which got rid of the plain milk taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I hope to see in future more flavours or perhaps they can sell a Rainbowcino set with five of these cute babyccinos in different flavours eg Rasberry, Green tea, Caramel, Hazelnut and Chocolate!

OpenRice website revamp

Dada Bar + Lounge (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Thanks to OpenRice for inviting me to their "discovering party".

It was basically a showcase for their newly revamped website which is going to be launched soon.

There were some improved functions and one which I thought was annoying because when you browse the latest reviews you have to click "see extra" for every one to see the full review.
For people writing reviews, the new interface is similar to blogger with the tools on the left hand side.
At the party, there was food of course and it was basically canapes.

My favourite was the brie, mini pizza and quiche.
A drink was included too and I had orange juice which was unsweetened and I liked it.
