Light delights from Pret A Manger

Pret A Manger (Admiralty)

Thanks to Pret and their communications team for sending me some redemptions letters because I could not attend their tasting held on a weekday.

I tried the new duck salad, salmon cream cheese wrap, lychee panna cotta, cherries yogurt bowl and the lemonades.

Pret A Manger is actually British even though it has a French name meaning ready to eat.

It has always been my favourite for items like strawberry fool, rhubarb dessert and carrot cake.

Sesame duck salad

The salad consisted of duck in sesame sauce, greens and a pieces of flat bread.
There was a tub of sesame sauce too for the greens.
It was really enjoyable eating this because it was similar to eating peking duck with pancakes but with sesame sauce.
It was light and refreshing, great for lunch.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lychee Panacotta

The balance of panna cotta and lychee jelly were perfect.
The lychee jelly was natural and fragrant with the right level of sweetness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Passion fruit flavoured iced lemonade

I have always liked the lemonade at Pret because it is made with real lemon juice.
It had a nice shot of passionfruit syrup in it which gave it more dimension.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon and cream cheese wrap

The wrap had smoked salmon and cream cheese which were delicious.
It was a satisfying and delicious wrap.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cherries Yoghurt bowl

The yoghurt on top was lovely and tart because it was natrual yoghurt and it paired nicely with the sweet cherry sauce at the bottom.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grapefruit flavoured iced lemonade

There were three flavours of lemonade: grapefruit, passionfruit and apple.
This was my favourite because the colour of pink grapefruit is pretty and the mix of lemon and grapefruit were nice.

Expensive tourist food !!

Relax Restaurant (Tsim Sha Tsui)

This restaurant has been around since 2002 which is quite a long time!

The items on the menu are generally quite expensive and there is a 10% service charge as well!

They have almost everything on the menu ranging from desserts, dimsums, congee, noodles, rice rolls etc.
I wonder how many innocent tourists end up coming here!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For each range there is bound to be an item containing abalone or bird's nest.
The prices of these items range from $62-$1xx.

Bird's nest dessert $168!

Abalone rice rolls with shrimp $62!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The sweet dessert roll was interesting though, it was see-through.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I just wanted something plain and simple so ordered luncheon meat and egg sandwich.
The taste of the egg was bland and the luncheon meat seemed stale because the colour was pale and off.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Chilled noodles in a cup

Take Out Sushi (Wan Chai)

Compared to Sushi Take out, this place is more expensive.

I was attracted by the chilled noodles served in a plastic cup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chilled noodles:

The taste of these noodles were really nice, but the chilled broth was a little bit salty and the noodles were a bit too salty.
On top of the noodles were pieces of seafood, pieces of egg and tofu which were odd bits from the sushi and sashimi cuts.

I love Yue Man Lok !!!

Happyfisherman Restaurant (Tai Kok Tsui)

Thanks to Happyfisherman Restaurant and Mjqueen7e for inviting me to this restaurant.
I was really looking forward to this place because I like fish and I have always wanted to try
this style of food ever since reading reviews from 魚鱻魚湯專門店.

The restaurant was interesting because it was Chinese style but on the seating side, there were lots of quotes from the Bible.

I was not familiar with this cuisine so Mjqueen7e ordered.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taiwanese style salt and pepper cuttlefish patties:

I liked the shape of these because they were easier to eat.
There were delicious pieces of cuttlefish in the patties flavoured with light salt and pepper sprinkled on its surface.
It was fried just right and golden brown.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wontons with spicy sauce:

This was one of my favourites because it tastes different from other restaurants.
There is hint of Chinese vinegar in it which made it appetizing.
Initially I thought it was lime but they said it was Chinese vinegar.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken and Wontons in fish broth:

The broth was sweet and delicious and the chicken was tender, it was really helpful of them to slice the chicken for us.
It was chicken leg too which was why it was lovely and tender.
The portion size of this was great because it can be shared between 2-3 people.
The best thing about this was that there was no chicken oil on the surface.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Carp in fish soup with Chinese rice buccatini:

Before trying the fish soup I was worried there were bones or scales in soup, but there were none.
The fish was really nice that we ended up trying another fish below.
The fish and broth was nicely paired with buccatini.
Buccatini has a hole in the middle which retains the soup when you eat it which makes it more flavourful.
The fish did not have an unpleasent smell when it cooled down.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish with rice in broth:

The second fish we had tasted nicer because the broth was sweeter as it had sweetcorn in the broth too.
This time had rice with it, which was also good because the rice they used was the pearl type and does not absorb the soup and go mushy.
As well as fish soup, you can also choose fish and tomato broth which I shall try next time.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef in Sichuan style chili:

Although this dish was too hot for us, it was worth trying as I end up never ordering this because I keep thinking it is too spicy.
It looks like the whole pot is filled with red chili hot liquid because the top is red but beneath it is actually a soupy broth that is not so spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
7-up with salted lemon:
The drink was not as good as the ones I have tried at the other places because the Salted lemon did not have much flavour despite breaking crushing it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
At the moment there are huge queues for this place, but luckily they have opened another branch nearby.

Minimum $12 spenditure per person

通達食店 (Yau Ma Tei)

Had a dessert tasting that day, so decided to dine here before going.

I used to eat here a lot because the fried snacks and fish shaomai are good.

When i got there, I realised they do not serve fried snacks, so I only ordered Fish Shaomai.
After ordering they said I couldnt just order shaomai because there is a minimum spending of $12 per person.

Since there were no fried snacks, I ordered two portions.

Hopefully at their other branch they still do fried snacks as I regret not taking photos of the fried snacks.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish shaomai:

The fish shaomai were chewy and made with lots of flour.
There was not much fish taste or fish meat in it which was good because there was less chance of grounded bones in it.

Prawn patty on charcoal bread

麵麵店 (Jordan)

I have always wanted to try the noodles here but I couldnt find this shop as I went the wrong direction.

Finally found it this time because I was at a tasting nearby so went in and tried the prawn toasts.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn patty on charcoal bread:

Basically it was similar to the Sesame prawn toasts found overseas in Chinese restaurants but it had no sesame on top and they used charcoal bread.
The taste was quite nice and the charcoal bread was quite crispy.
It would be good if it was squid ink instead of charcoal as it would bring out the seafood taste of the prawn even more.
On the other side, there is crushed garlic and butter.
The prawn patty, crispy baguette and garlic butter tasted quite nice together.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodle menu:
Next time I am going to try the noodles with ginger wine broth and the Mexican Turnip root dumplings (sa gort gao).

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Interesting items:
fried dough sticks with fish patty or kaya

Back for more Parisian food

Le Bonbon de Paris (Sai Kung)

There is not much choice for food in Sai Kung, so Le Bonbon de Paris and Chip In have become my regular eateries.

This restaurant stays open late too while the local ones close early not that I would dine there anyway.

Since my last visit the menu has changed, there are some new drinks but my favourite berries tiramisu is not there because it is not popular with the locals!

The locals seem to have a different taste for Western food because they only try items that they've heard before.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cheese and ham omelette

This time tried the cheese and ham omelette which was light and fluffy loaded with lots of ham and melted cheese inside.
The taste was nice especially with the melted cheese but I felt that there was too much ham.
There were lots of fragrant herbs on top of the omelette which made it very enjoyable too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lime tea

The drinks have got bigger, it was a huge glass this time!
The sweetness was just right but the lime taste was not strong enough but it did not have that nasty bitterness that the Chinese style teas have.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry milkshake

The strawberry milkshake was extremely cooling and they put a lot of cream in it when they made it.
The taste was very substantial and not watery and icy like other places, there was a good blend of fresh strawberries and cream in this milkshake.
The sweetness was just right and not cloyingly syrupy sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
If Sai Kung was not so inconvenient, I would dine here and at Chip In more often.
