Healthy Vietnamese baguettes

I remember getting a flyer from this shop a while ago but as I was having dinner I did not stop by and try.

Finally tried it and the baguettes were surprisingly good.

While I was there, someone ordered the whole baguette which only costs $69, fit for a few people to share.

I went for the mini which only costs $19.

Next time I am going to try the toasts which has scrambled eggs and vietnamese sausage.

Vietnamese French baguette:

The baguette was filled with liver pate, Vietnamese pork roll, pork floss, tomato, carrots, pickled cucumber and cilantro.
Chili slices are optional.
As an expat I love baguettes and this was great because it was filled with lots of ingredients.
The optional chili was surprisingly good because it balanced well with the pork belly and the pickles made it refreshing.
The baguette was lovely and fresh, soft and crusty.

Spring rolls:

The Spring rolls were crispy and perfectly fried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salty lemon soda:

Had this refreshing drink and it was amazing because it was not sweet which is how it should be.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salty lemon soda with lime:

This is basically the same as above with lime added.
I preferred this one because it had more flavours and complexity.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled meat roll:

Lastly I had the grilled meat roll which came with sweet sauce.
It is a great snack for meat lovers but I am not keen on meat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

I will be back to try their vegetarian baguettes and toasts.

New Thai restaurant in Sai Kung

Ban Thai Restaurant is located on the quiet end of Sai kung and they are surprisingly busy for a new restaurant.

The menu had English with pictures and a hardback cover which was impressive.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

Started off with the soup which was good because it was not the defacto chicken and wintermelon soup. The taste was more flavourful because there were lots of spring onions and preserved vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai salami with rice:

Tried the Thai salami with rice and the rice was the best because it was delicately flavoured and fragrant.

Shepherd's pie at Vanilla

Apart from Shortbread Teas, this is another one of my favourite places for British fare.

In the savoury selection, they have Shepherds pie, lasagne, moussaka and fish pie.

They also have a great selection of affordable rolls.

There are also delicious cakes which I have previously reviewed.

This time I had Shepherds pie.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Shepherds pie:

It was huge portion with lots of minced lamb and mashed potato on top.
The mince was a bit chewy but I loved the rich sauce and chunky pieces of carrots.
If the mashed potato surface on top had been crisp then it would have been perfect.

Cuisine Cuisine's 2014 mooncakes

Every year, lots of mooncake tins become trash which is not environmentally friendly.

It is nice to see reusable and creative boxes.

The box can be converted into a mini tea table as well as a useful box for storing things.

As for the mooncakes, they were delicious after they were heated for about 10 seconds in the microwave.

It had a crumbly soft texture with fragrant egg custard taste without being too sweet, and the pastry was lovely and buttery.

As well as egg custard, there is molten pumpkin or bird's nest.

Relaxing meal at Kam Heung Vegetarian

I have always wanted to try this place but they never display the daily dishes.
On this visit I finally realized that when people dine here they have to order it from the kitchen where they can see what dishes there are to choose.

Here was what I chose.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★I
Bittermelon and tofu roll:

I was a bit disappointed with this because it was cooked with black bean but lacked black bean taste and the bittermelon was not soft enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beetroot soup:

The beetroot soup was quite nice, it was earthy with the sweetness from the beetroot.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Although the food could have been better, the environment was peaceful and the lady in the shop was really friendly.
Next time I will probably try their quarry bay branch.

It's soooo good! Another branch of Sooo Vegi

The food at Sooo Vegi is healthy and affordable.

I am thrilled there is now a second branch on the corner of Merlin Road.

It is decorated with its signature green theme.

The menu is pretty much the same but they have all day breakfasts and laksa.

The best thing about this branch is the air conditioning and the comfortable environment which will make me return more often.
It's not that I don't like the other branch but the second hand smoke from people smoking nearby makes me sick.

Came here two days in a row, the first day I had the breakfast.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:
The breakfast comes with coffee or Roselle tea but as I don't these drink these I got the Monkey head mushroom soup instead.

Comparing it to the first time I tried it, the taste is much stronger with mushrooms and pulses.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breakfast:

I got this because I was curious what vegetarian bacon would look like and because I like scrambled eggs.
The bacon was soft and the texture of the imitation fat was quite realistic because it was springy.
It was a nice breakfast as a whole, especially the scrambled eggs because they were slightly runny and tasty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pasta Bolognaise:

I loved the bolognaise sauce because it had a rich tomato taste with lovely pieces of onions in it.

The King of Soy beans in San Po Kong

I rarely go to this stretch of Kowloon but discovered this place after dining at Antoshimo.
This place is surprisingly close to the Mikiki mall.

On the walls, there are product shots of the food which is extremely helpful.

The menu has English too!

Started off with my favourite Savoury soybean soup.

It was loaded with spring onions, fried dough stick slices and dried shrimps which gave it lots of flavour and you could also smell and taste the sesame oil.
Then I had the spicy minced meat with noodles.

Personally I found it too spicy for my tastebuds.
There is a choice of cellophane noodles (mungbean noodles) to go with the mince.
Cellophane noodles would definitely taste better.

To sooth my tastebuds, I had the grounded sweetcorn soup which was mildly sweet with lots of grounded sweetcorn in it.

Tried these glutinous rice balls which are clumps of glutinous rice shaped into balls, panfried and then sprinkled with meat floss.

They were nice and filling.
[Please note that they are not served during peak hours ie 12-2pm]

For desserts, there are quite a few to choose from.

I tried the ginger milk dessert which had a strong ginger taste without being too sweet.

The sweet dumplings in soymilk were also good.

Last but not least, the most delicious item in the restaurant which is not served from 12-2pm!!

These are super delicious fluffy and soft steamed Chinese buns with finely grounded meat and preserved vegetables in the middle which are similar to those Taiwanese Guo Baos but costing a mere $10 for 2!!!!!!

The grounded pork was panfried giving a crispy texture loaded with gentle spices and a cumin kick!!

Definitely an item that must be tried if you go at the right time.

If I come here again, I am going to try the steamed rice in lotus leaves with juicy spare ribs!
