Belgian rostis at 炸魚薯條 (西貢)

The weather is cooler which is the perfect time to go to Sai Kung as nobody goes in this cold weather.

This time they had these new Belgian Rostis so I got them.

My favourite was the vegetable one because of the vegetable and potato bits.
The bacon one is also good as well.

To finish off I had a marmite and cheese bap because I love marmite.

Adrenaline rush at Adrenaline

I never would have imagined the experience at Happy Valley racecourse could be so good.
Happy Valley is on the Hong Kong side so it is easy to travel there and it is attended by so many expats.

We went on a wednesday to Adrenaline on a normal racing day which costs HK$350 per person including a buffet dinner and 1 adrenaline signature drink.
As an expat, the buffet was great because they had quite a lot of Tex-mex food such as cajun prawns, Southern fried chicken drumsticks, mac n cheese and chili con carne.

For dessert, my favourite was the British rice pudding with Devonshire cream.
Pictures taken at Adrenaline:
After watching some races at Adrenaline we decided to check out the party and get a closer look at the horses.
The place was buzzing with vibes.
Souvenirs from the races.

Southeast Asian delights at Miramar

I have always loved Southeast Asian food and there are so many variations.

At Sungei Wang they specialise in Malaysian dishes.

Here's what we tried
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Barley and lemon drink:
This was thick with a strong lemon taste.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grapefruit and seafood salad dressed in Iced plum juice

I found the dressing too sweet because the seafood tasted sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bak Kut Teh

The bak kut teh broth could have been stronger because I like the herbs to be strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roti

The roti was soft and flakey which was delicious with the curry sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roasted eggplant and dried fish with sambal chili sauce

This was my favourite because it came with yoghurt sauce that gave it an Indian touch to it.
I don't normally like Sambal sauce but the lemongrass was light so I found it palatable.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai beef short beef

The beef was juicy paired with delicious tangy sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Garlic and cheese scallop

I don't think this is Asian but the scallops were juicy and big.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Malaysian curry chicken
The chicken in the curry was tender because it was spring chicken but it was not reflected on the English menu.
I really liked this curry because it was light and there were lots of earthy mushrooms in it which always go well with chicken.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Singapore pepper crab
The crab was really tasty and springy but the pepper was not strong enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken Satay:

Juicy chicken satay skewed with chicken breast which had a strong taste of cumin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Indonesian fried rice:

The Indonesian fried rice was served in a sizzling pot which burnt the rice on the edges giving you an interesting mix of soft rice and crispy rice.
Again, the fried rice could have been spicier.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
They are currently experimenting on the dishes because people in different areas of Hong Kong have different tastebuds and requirements, but in my opinion I would like the herbs and spices to be stronger.

Quick fix at Watami

Went here for a quick fix and had the curry because there was nothing interesting on the menu.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dry curry with pork:
The rice got burnt and it was too crispy because of the hot bowl and the curry had minced pork in it which wasn't fresh.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
appetiser:
I didn't like the starter because I don't like thick glass noodles and the sauce was too sharp.

Quick gathering at RBT

This place has a comfortable sofa seating and a nice environment so went here for drinks.

As our order was over $200 we got a complimentary rabbit stand.
The drinks were good because you could ask for it to be less sweet but my favourite was the fizzy oolong tea with icecream.
For nibbles we had the pizza and lobster crackers.
The pizza was aromatic with a thin cracker base and the lobster crackers had cracked black pepper on top which made them tastier with a hint of fieryness.

Gingerbread man by CLOT at Lab Made

Last Christmas I was hoping for the eggnog flavour which I suggested to the Labmade team but they said people in Hong Kong wouldn't know what it is but anyway I am so glad it is available now.

Eggnog has this delicious vanilla egg custard taste which was exactly what this icecream tasted like.
The sweetness was just right as well.

curry from hell at 新樂園魚蛋粉 (鰂魚涌)

Ordered a fish curry and didn't expect it to be fantastic but fxxk it was spicy as hell!
The fish was actually really good because it was freshly fried and coated in corn starch but the fxxking curry sauce just killed it.
I am really surprised the people eating there could accept that level of spiciness which was totally uncalled for.

Tea, the new fashion trend at The Tea Academics

Went a while ago and tried to ago again but it seems that they are under renovation because it has been almost a week that they are closed.

There has been a spate of Tea places opening with another small joint called jrink located in Tai Hang which I shall review later.

I felt that they could do with some fine improvements.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey chocolate tea:
The presentation was impressive because it looked like a pot plant with soil foam on top.

When I stirred the drink, I discovered that it was more like a hot chocolate drink than tea.
At the bottom of the drink, there was yuzu jam which brought out the earl grey flavours but as you drank it the earl grey tea leaves were big and annoying because they were prickly and not soft enough for you to swallow.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scone:

The scone was good because it had a nice doughy smell and taste to it just like Marks and Spencers but I was expecting cream or clotted cream and not a huge scoop of butter which is going to be wasted because no one is going to actually use a whole scoop of butter on one scone unless they have a sick fetish for butter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Choy cha:

This was vegetable tea which I was really looking forward to because I love vegetable teas like Numi.
If you search for Numi you will find many wonderful flavours such as broccoli tea, spinach tea, beetroot tea etc.

Anyway, the vegetable tea looked promising because there was so much chopped vegetables, vermicelli and other goodies.
Unfortunately, the taste was foul because it was sweet. It was the first time tasting sweet leafy vegetables.
I am always raring to try new items but sweet vegetable tea is just too weird for my brave tastebuds.
On the next visit I shall ask them not to sweeten it but they haven't been open for me to try it yet.

Christmas treats at Passion by Gerard Dubois

Had a pre Christmas gathering here so had some Christmas treats that were exclusive to this branch.
Before we had the cakes, we started off with salad and sandwiches.
Here was my favourite salad and I always choose the creamy beetroots, tasty couscous and tomato salad with buffalo cheese.

Had the quiche of the day which was bacon and asparagus.
The quiche filling was very smooth and velvety similar to Chinese steamed egg.

The smoked salmon rilette was really tasty because there were capers and onions in the filling giving it more dimension other than just creamy salmon.

Started on the Christmas log which was divine because there were layers of silky chocolate mousse with refreshing passionfruit in the middle.

We also had the strawberry and blueberry danish which were exclusives at this branch.

To finish off, had Earl Grey tea.
