A peachy Mother’s day‏

A longevity peach, or shoutao is typically a steamed lotus seed bun that is white with a red dyed tip and a crease in the middle that mimics the shape of a peach. In the Chinese tradition the longevity peach represents Peaches of Immortality that grant humans immortality when consumed hence this is why the longevity peach is typically served at birthday banquets to attendees. For mother day’s Bao Dim Sin Seng have launched a series of longevity peach buns!!!

There is the golden peach series and a traditional series.

The golden series has custard and egg yolk filling while the other has traditional lotus paste filling. Golden series:

Traditional series:

Personally, I like the golden peach series because of the filling and The Queen Mother set has a crown for fun and looks great on pictures (see product shot)!

Golden longevity peaches ($30 for pair of $16 each) 金桃 (1對)

The first in the golden peach series is the custard golden peach which has custard and egg yolk in the middle. ********************
Surrounded by peaches 桃李滿門 ($42)

The second golden peach is surrounded by smaller peaches that are filled with lotus paste or red bean with a custard golden peach bun.

Queen Mother! $98 女皇媽媽

The last is my favourite because it is meaningful. It is a big bun that hides a bun filled with egg yolk and lotus paste and 6 mini buns filled with lotus paste or red bean paste.

There are four different greetings for the bun such as Beautiful mum, Fat Mum etc and there is a crown for fun.

To conclude, the Queen Mother set and the 桃李滿門 are fun to share.
Personally I liked the custard filling because it was fragrant and not too sweet encased in a delicious fluffy bun.

Sold out but not sold out at Cafe&Meal MUJI

On my last visit, I forgot to check out Café Muji so this time came here for dessert because they looked good.

Anyway, ordered the pudding and they said it was sold out.
It was weird because there were two in the cabinet when I went out and they were still there.

It was a weekday evening and surprisingly packed and the tables were really close together so it was annoying being forced to listen to other peoples’ conversations.

Not everyone had a basket to put their bags because I was not given one and the table behind me didn't get one.

Ordered a drink and the pudding after he checked that it wasn’t sold out.

Cucumber mojito:

It was a refreshing drink with a strong fizz, there were lots of diced cucumber in it that got stuck in the straw.

Overall, it was nice and tasted natrual because of the diced cucumber and fresh mint leaves.

Pudding:
Waited ages and it didn’t arrive so decided to pay the bill and leave.

Crepe for desserts

Time flies since French May and now it is the middle of June already.

It was only a few weeks ago that I had their yummy platter and duck crepe and now I am craving for crepes again so it's probably the aftermath of French May!

Went here for dessert and ordered two simple sweet crepes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crepe with maple cream:

The crepe was thin and light topped with a big dollop of cream.
It was nice because it wasn’t too sweet and the cream and crepe went together nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crepe with salted butter caramel:

There was quite a bit of caramel drizzled on top but luckily it was not too sweet and it had a bitter taste.
It tasted even better when I added some cream to it from the other crepe.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Hope to try the croissants next time.

Still needs improvement at Bocadito

Dined here because there was no one dining there.
The decor was a bit strange because it looked Greek but it was a Spanish restaurant serving Tapas.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish and chips:

The fish was really salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
crepes with bacon and mahon cheese:

The menu says Mahou cheese but I couldn't google it so I believe they are referring to Mahon cheese.

Anyway, the savoury crepe was amazing because it was lean crispy bacon and sharp cheese wrapped in a soft crepe.
The pairing of salty bacon and cheese was good.

Arome bakery’s ice dumplings

Arome bakery’s ice dumplings

Traditional dumplings are made with glutinous rice and wrapped in plant leaves but now there are some modern ones called Ice dumplings because they have a clear translucent exterior and they are eaten cold.

There are quite a few flavours at ABR but there were only three I wanted to try which were purple sweet potato, apple and brown sugar.

They only had the purple one so I got that for $28.

The packaging was cute, you just peel off the lid and eat.

The dumpling exterior was very chewy and the purple potato puree was too sweet and tasted artificial so I think I will probably just buy the apple to try next.

French toast with apricot at Peak Cafe Bar

For breakfast I don't normally order anything sweet but they had this French toast with apricot and yoghurt which I had to try.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
French toast with apricot and yoghurt:

With the location being in Central and right by the mid-levels escalators the French toast was not going to be the silly local ones dipped in egg and drenched in thick syrup.
It was a modest toast filled with finely sliced apricots in the middle served with tart vanilla yoghurt.

The toast was divine because the apricots were sweet and fruity while the tart yoghurt mellowed it out.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea:

The tea took some time to come, from ordering to chasing it up with another waitor who forgot so we had to reorder it again.
It was good to see that they were using tea leaves and not tea bags.
