[Review] Crumble to the next level at Humble Crumble

I love a proper English pudding but these days they are getting scarce especially custard because most restaurants/bars replace it with ice cream partly due to demand and partly due to convenience.

This is where Humble Crumble comes in, a modern crumble reinvented to the next level which is stylish as well as comforting.
Humble Crumble started off at Primrose Hill Market as a pop up stall and they were so successful that they now have a permanent booth at Old Spitalfields.

On the menu, they have different flavours, the traditional apple crumble is always on the menu while there will be others on rotation like berries and some fancy ones they had in the past like sweet cherries and apple, rhubarb etc.

It is really ingenious yet original how the pudding is served by layering the elements because they are made to order yet not baked which saves time.

The fruit layer goes in the pot first, then the crumble, then the optional custard.

Other toppings can be added like torched marshmallow, meringue crumbs and edible rose.

As soon as I found out that Humble Crumble were at Old Spitalfields, I had to pay them a visit because there are tables for you to enjoy the food.
On the menu that day was either apple crumble or mixed berries so I went for the apple topped with custard.
For people don't like custard, there is also clotted cream and clotted cream ice cream.

I wasn't sure about the extra marshmallow but decided to have it anyway for decorative purposes but it actually complimented the apple crumble nicely without being too sweet or over the top.
This is where the crumble layer comes in perfectly like gravel, the spoon goes in the pot effortlessly and having the marshmallow gave me the excitement like trifle when you dig your spoon into three layers.
To summarize, I really enjoyed the apple crumble as everything was perfectly balanced and the marshmallow gave it that extra sweet kick to balance the apple.

It would be great if they offered different crumble types like chunky crumble to fine crumble or a mix to choose from.
Well, we never know because we might possibly see fancy crumble like chocolate flavoured crumble, oats or quinoa added to make it healthy.
