Lovely meat skewers at 東門町

I was still a little bit hungry so decided to try the skewers here.
There was chicken, beef or lamb.

Chicken was the best because it was juicy, tasty with lots of cumin but the lamb was too fat and chewy for my liking.

Pasta with a Chinese fusion twist

Came here again because of the interesting fusion of fermented beancurd and pasta.

Basically it was lamb and pasta in fermented beancurd sauce.
In Chinese dishes lamb and fermented beancurd are always paired together so it should taste good.

The Matcha Azuki risotto was another interesting fusion dish too!

Lamb pasta in fermented beancurd sauce:
羊肉腐乳意粉

To be honest $138 is a bit pricey for the pasta.

Anyway, the pasta was too creamy for my liking and the fermented beancurd sauce was not as strong as I would have liked.

According to the Chef, the fermented beancurd taste should be stronger and it should not have been so creamy, but that night it was not cooked by that Chef.
I think it would have tasted nice if the sauce was purely lamb and fermented beancurd.

30% Extra large scary-big-boorrito for Halloween

Little Burro (Causeway Bay)

Although my first experience at Little Burro was crap, I went again because I was craving for that salsa and lime rice.

For Halloween, they had just the thing I wanted!

The Halloween special was an extra large Burrito filled with their signature lime rice, slow cooked lamb shoulder, roasted pumpkin, a hint of spice and salsa.

Luckily this burrito was extra large because I would not have been full if it was the normal one!

There were still a few things Little Burro could have improved on.

There was a bottle of water on the table, so I believe it was for people to drink, however there were no cups about.
I saw one of the customers go to the counter and ask them for a cup so I did the same.
If they intend to give customers water, why don't they put cups on the table.
What's more frustrating is that if there is a queue, then you need to wait for the queue to die down before you can ask them for a cup.

Anyway, here was my Halloween burrito!
I knew it was big, but I was actually quite shocked at how big it was!
The diameter was about the same as the bottle above!

Because of the size, the burrito was quite difficult to eat, I ended up eating the rice and fillings in the middle with a fork then eating the soft tortilla wrap.

The burrito tasted amazing though, packed with spices in every mouthful, with pieces of lamb, pumpkin, beans, lettuce, diced tomato and soft rice.

When I got to the bottom of the burrito, it was soggy!

The lamb was microwaved before serving just like Foodcraver said.

Part2:☆Γρεξοπ☆ΓΡΕΞΟπ☆Grecoπ☆Γρεψοπ☆Γκρέκοπ☆

Grecoπ (Wan Chai)

Grecoπ is a great place for Greek food, but it is located in the middle of nowhere!

A year later they have new items on the menu so I went to try them out.

They have two new desserts but it was not available when I went.

I would go again but this place is too far away and I really cannot be bothered to walk here despite the food is brilliant.

They sell taramasalata and hummus dips in the fridge.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries with crumbled feta:

Since my last visit, I had forgotten how delicious their fries were.
There was crumbled feta on top which makes the fries more appetizing.
There were quite a few fries that were really long in length!
The length of the fries are about the length of a plastic fork.
They are even taller than a can of coke.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grilled Greco burger:

Before I started devouring the burger I was delighted how it was neatly wrapped because not all burgers are presented in a nice way.
You could see they put effort in making the burger and each layer was neatly place including the sauce.
The patty was really nice and the texture of it was different, it tasted similar to kofte with herbs.

They also put two slices of cheddar in the burger.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Greek spinach pie:

The spinach pie was my favourite, wholesome spinach in the pie covered with delicate filo pastry.
It was filled with so much spinach!

If the pie had been warmer it would have been perfect.

Build your own burger @ Gourmet Burger Union

Similar to Toppings, except this place has even more choice.

From cheese to toppings and sauces, there are so many choices to choose, and for that extra gourmet factor, you can pay a small price to add that too.

Cheese wise, as not many places serve burgers with blue cheese, here they have three blue cheeses to choose from: Danish blue, Roquefort and Stilton, and if your a pizza lover, there is Italian Mozarella.

The toppings here are also quite different, you can choose baked beans which give it that breakfast tone to it. Personally I chose Portabello mushroom, as the common mushrooms in the far east are button mushrooms and shiitake, not the European stuff. Anyway the portobello mushroom tasted really good, much better than the one at Burger Joint which was sour as if it was drenched in vinegar.

As my burger was lamb I also opted for extra hummus for that meditarranean Kebab experience.

Then finally for my sauces, I picked the ones less served in other places which were Truffle cream and horseradish mayonnaise.

The burger was very neatly done, the toppings, ingredients, sauces were evenly laid out in the bun, makng it easy to eat with your hands.
The only thing that didnt work well, was that I picked too many sauces and toppings, so a bit hard to distinguish the tastes of the different elements. Tasted good overall.
But given so much choice its hard not to save that choice for the next visit.

The only topping that couldnt be ordered was the Calves liver, which is only served in The spotted pig signiature burger. So next time I will try that.

Juicy Lamb Burger @ hot dog stage

This is quite a good joint for burgers and hotdogs, the staff speak English too.
The hard back menu is quite nice too.

The menu variety is good, but they ran out of leaflets when I got there, so took a picture instead.
I ordered a lamb burger, as not many places serve them. The burger was wrapped nicely and had their sticker stuck on the wrapping, the outer paper brown bag made it authentic US burger style too.

The lamb burger was on a bed of Rocket lettuce, which I was impressed, not the plain ice-berg type, although it is bitter, the rocket lettuce matches the price of the burger. It was neatly topped with mint sauce and tomato.

According to the menu, only 20 lamb burgers are served a day.

I can’t wait to try their hotdogs.

Service Madly Lousy = SML

Apart from the Quarry Bay MiscoCool, this is the second restaurant featuring communal tables but in larger lounge.

The whole concept is fresh, and vibrant, nice for the young chics and boys to show their pride in a lively lounge. It also reminds me of school dinner days too, a rejuvenation of youth, relive the young days again, sitting amongst other hip and cool people.

If you do not fancy being on display, I guess it needs time getting used to, like California fitness gym for a specific part of the target market.

Anyway, sat down in the middle of a large bench table, people started filling beside us, but there was no one sitting on our left hand sides, so we placed our bags there. We were ushered to place the bag on one side, then a while later, the waiters from the opposite side ushered us to place the bags on the other side, playing shuffling bags here if u've played shuffling chairs!!

Food ordered:

Chicken Confit & Foie Gras with Truffle SaladBasically two pieces of sliced baguette served with salad and a pot with shredded chicken, bits of foie gras topped with poppy seeds. The chicken was not dry or chewy, and the bits of silky foie gras buttered the chicken, but there was not that much of foie gras. I thought it should have been layered chicken, then foie gras then the poppy seeds.

Prawn Toast with truffleSame comment as Babedolphin, no taste in truffle, overly greasy, I suppose the bitterness of the alcohol sauce took away that greasy taste.
Honestly I have had better prawn toasts at Takeaways in UK.

Octopus salad in olive oilThis was a very good mixed of diced yellow peppers, leaves, onions and the octopus, the octopus was chopped tentacles which were very big in diameter, I thought the octopus would be chewy, but it wasn’t at all. There was also some sort of jelly that had formed on the octopus, so it is probably the tinned version.

Lamb kebabThis was a huge stick of minced Lamb on a stick, I tried it with the olive oil from the salad, it was quite nice, and the lamb was strongly covered in Cajun powder. The yoghurt sauce that came with it was lovely, pure sour yoghurt.

Mushroom risottoThis had a very strong smell, but not that strong when I ate it, the texture of the rice was a bit hard, like red grain rice.

I was contemplated to order the Hangar steak and chips, but then I decided to order two desserts, which finished the meal quite elegantly! I wanted Gnocci too, but it wasn’t listed on the menu anymore!!

Pot of chocolate w/chocolate mousse & fudgeThis was yummy chocolate mousse with bits of chocolate cake covered with white cream and topped with two pieces of fudge.

Lime cream w/vanilla pineapple & coconut jellyThere were bits of coconut jelly with cutely diced pineapple pieces, layered with lime cream at the bottom, refreshingly delicious, leaving you with a slight hungriness that you will be back for more next time.

Lastly, we tried to paid for the bill, but one of the dreaming waiters either forgot to print out the bill or there was something wrong with the order, so had to ask another waiter got it for us.

Price wise, I think it’s quite reasonable for around $300 considering we ordered food with truffles, foie gras. I think for a good meal, its best to pick out the fine stuff rather than the stuff you can get anywhere, or it just defeats the purpose.

Lamb hot pot @ 太興燒味餐廳

As usual, their lamb hotpots are good, rich beancurd sauce with pieces of water chestnuts, mushrooms, dried beancurd and lamb.
There was also a separate plate of lettuce to put in too.

The lamb was quite tender, but a knife and fork was needed, as chopsticks were useless.

The beancurd sauce that was provided was good also, but slightly too sweet.

The chefs are back! @ Oh Food

I have always loved Arabic food ever since I tried Sham Fast Food.
They used to be inconveniently located between Fortress Hill and North Point.
Now they are located in Wan Chai and close to the MTR.

Every time I attempted to submit this review, there is something new at the restaurant.
They now do breakfast but it is Chinese style.
I hope to try it one day, but to get breakfast it is a bit of a challenge and too early for me.
I was going to write about their set meals but now they only offer sets during lunch time.

The mains cost around $50.
From starters to the mains, it tastes really delicious.
However there are four chefs so sometimes it tastes different.
I have now had to change this review radically because I wrote that they should have apricot juice and smaller portions but now the apricot juice is back and the portions are just right.

There are lots of new items on the menu such as the chocolate eclair but there is no space for it here~!

Hopefully one day I will be surprised with this arabic omelette thing, I tried it from some Arabic students, it was plain omelette that is dipped with spices and oil and eaten with pita bread!

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Arabic tea:
I found the tea quite interesting, it is made from lots of herbs and the prominent herb I could taste was Lemon grass.
Sometimes it is strong you can't see through the glass and sometimes it is lighter.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Minestrone soup:
See above picture with the drink.
It tastes better than the Chinese soups pretending to be minestrone soups, it actually has real pieces of noodles and it has spices in it as well.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Arabic salad:
This is just plain tomatos, cucumber and lettuce, but they have spiced it up with secret spices and vinegar.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Fava Brown bean salad:
This is one of my favourite appetizers, the beans are really nice and the tomato balances out the dryness.
Again it is spiced up by the spices and cumin is one of the spices.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Mushroom soup:
This tastes like chicken soup with some mushrooms.
The mushrooms are the chinese type.
I found really cute small pieces of mushroom in the soup!
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Green pea salad:
This is a new item on the menu which tastes even better than the Fava bean.
There are fresh mint leaves in it.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Egg and sweetcorn soup:
I was expecting this soup to be similar to the chinese one, but this was really good.
although it was watery, it had spices, sweetcorn, spring onions [ the green part and the root part] and onions.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Hummous sandwich:
It was lovely bread with generous hummous and diced mushrooms
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Sliced mutton with cheese and beyani rice:
This was really nice with green peppers, I would have loved more cheese though.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Beef steak with brown sauce:
This is no longer on the menu however it has been replaced with beef and potatoes which is much nicer.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Beef Kebab with arabic rice:
This is another good item, it is rolled beef patty mixed with lots of coriander.
Beef kebab
Beef kebab

◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Fried chicken with fries:
This was a thin chicken escaloupe with yummy fries topped with spices.
Similar to McD's shake shake fries in England with Curry powder.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Chicken sheesh taook with arabic rice:
Another favourite dish of mine, the chicken is really juicy and tender.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
Pasta in white sauce with cheese:
The prawns were extremely fresh.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
There is a choice of arabic rice or Beryani rice to go with the main dishes.
The Arabic rice is lighter of the two. It is similar to the rice served in asian chicken rice, it is slightly greased with oil, sometimes the chef puts vegetables in it.
The beryani rice is more aromatic but different to the spicy Indian version, however they are both soft and fluffy.
The Arabic version of the beryani rice is not spicy
